Van-e, aki soha nem maradt még hoppon egy kapcsolat felmelegítésében reménykedve? Van-e, aki mellé még soha nem ült le elviselhetetlen útitárs egy távolsági buszon? Papp Noémi történeteiben bármelyikünk magára ismerhet - ki-ki milyen szerepben -, hiszen az elénk táruló helyzetek a mindennapi életünk epizódjai, szóljanak akár családi kötelékek szorosabbra fonódásáról vagy meglazulásáról, szerelemről vagy szakításról, egészségről vagy betegségről, barátságról vagy csalódásról, felvirágzásról vagy veszteségről. Ami azonban nagyon is egyéni ezekben a mindenki számára ismerős történetekben, az az írói optika: a szerző a maga tömör, szikár, ám annál érzékletesebb írói nyelve segítségével úgy irányítja a fókuszt, hogy észrevegyük a történetben a különlegeset, a megtorpanásra késztetőt és a továbbgondolásra méltót. Így aztán ezek a hol fanyar, hol mulatságos, hol szívszorító, hol groteszk, hol ámulatba ejtő novellák hosszan velünk maradnak még az olvasás után is. A kiválasztott osztrák "kávéházi" írók ezúttal nem csak a bécsi kávéházakról, kávéféleségekről mesélnek, de sokkal inkább a korabeli bécsi polgár lélekrajzát, a Monarchia végének hangulatát adják vissza. Lélekrajz és korrajz, ezzel együtt nyomós okok, melyekkel a bécsi polgári kávéházak természetes túlélése, legalábbis továbbélése magyarázható. Ahogy Ferenc József császár sem "ússza meg szárazon", arra is kapunk példát, hogy látták ők a Monarchia itteni felét.
