Tragédie finsko-sovětské války v letech 1941–1943 byla záležitostí celého finského národa. Už v jejím průběhu, a zvláště po porážce považoval kdekdo za svou povinnost sepsat, jak to vlastně bylo, proč tomu tak bylo, a jaké místo v průběhu válečných operací zaujímal pisatel na frontě nebo v zápolí.
