The exhibition Maison Sonia. Sonia Delaunay and the Atelier Simultane is dedicated to the applied work of Russian-French artist Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979), with a focus on her textile design work. The accompanying catalogue includes the first scholarly essays on Sonia Delaunay's collaborations with silk industrialist Robert Perrier and couturier Jacques Heim, who were among her most important collaborators and previously unexplored.In addition, the publication provides the first overview of the role of Sonia Delaunay's simultaneous fabrics in the design of modern living and media spaces.
Portmoneana - Váchaliana
Reprezentativní katalog stejnojmenné výstavy, který obsahuje všechny sbírkové předměty Regionálního muzea v Litomyšli k tématu Josefa Portmana, Josefa Váchala a k dějinám a činnosti Portmonea – Musea Josefa Váchala v Litomyšli. Popisuje vznik sbírky, který začal poměrně nedávno, v roce 2016, když Pardubický kraj koupil a do správy regionálního muzea svěřil Váchalovo muzeum. Do té doby se doby se ve sbírce nacházely pouze fotografie, tiskařské štočky a bibliofilie od Josefa Portmana. Provozování Portmonea dalo podnět k novým akvizicím k Josefu Váchalovi a Ladislavu Horáčkovi. Do sbírky se tak dostává například cenná autorská kniha Josefa Váchala Satanu, se kterou vyhrál ve Florencii v roce 1927 cenu na výstavě krásných knih. Mezi sbírkovými předměty jsou exlibris, grafické listy, ale i drobnosti spojené s propagací Portmonea nebo kulisy Krvavého románu divadelního spolku Filigrán. Katalog vypráví tři příběhy – příběh Josefa Portmana, Josefa Váchala a Portmonea. Ke každé kapitole jsou přiřazeny sbírkové předměty v chronologickém pořadí podle data jejich vzniku. Záznamy obsahují fotografie, technické údaje i podrobnosti, které dále rozvíjí hlavní linii příběhu. Katalog byl vydán s finanční podporou Ministerstva kultury ČR.

Bruegel. The Complete Works
The life and times of Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c. 1526/30–1569) were marked by stark cultural conflict. He witnessed religious wars, the Duke of Alba’s brutal rule as governor of the Netherlands, and the palpable effects of the Inquisition. To this day, the Flemish artist remains shrouded in mystery. We know neither where nor exactly when he was born. But while early scholarship emphasized the vernacular character of his painting and graphic work, modern research has attached greater importance to its humanistic content.
Starting out as a print designer for publisher Hieronymus Cock, Bruegel produced numerous print series that were distributed throughout Europe. These depicted vices and virtues alongside jolly peasant festivals and sweeping landscape panoramas. He would eventually increasingly turn to painting, working for the cultural elite of Antwerp and Brussels.
This monograph is a testament to Bruegel’s evolution as an artist, one who bravely confronted the issues of his day all the while proposing new inventions and solutions. Rather than idealizing reality, he addressed the horrors of religious warfare and took a critical stand against the institution of the Church. To this end, he developed his own pictorial language of dissidence, lacing innocuous everyday scenes with subliminal statements in order to escape repercussions.
This collection captures all the breadth and splendid detail of Bruegel’s oeuvre like never before, and gathers all 40 paintings, 65 drawings, and 89 engravings in pristine reproductions?each piece a unique witness to both the religious mores and the close-knit folk culture of Bruegel’s time.
David Hockney. My Window
When David Hockney discovered the iPhone as an artistic medium, it opened up entirely new possibilities for his art. He made his first digital drawings in spring 2009, describing the morning landscape in broad lines and dazzling colors directly on a display that offered subtle hues as unmixed expressions of pure light. In the Eye of the Storm
A major study of Ukrainian art from 1900 to the mid-1930s - with loans from major museums in Ukraine, elsewhere in Europe, the United States (including MoMA) and Israel. How does artistic life flourish during revolution and conflict? Ukraine in the early 1900s endured unimaginable political upheaval, yet this became a period of true renaissance in Ukrainian art, literature, theatre and cinema. In the Eye of the Storm: Modernism in Ukraine, 1900-1930s presents the ground-breaking art produced in Ukraine in the early 20th century, focusing on the three key cultural centres of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa.
Against a complicated socio-political backdrop of collapsing empires, World War I, the revolutions of 1917 with the ensuing Ukrainian War of Independence, and the eventual creation of Soviet Ukraine, several strands of distinctly Ukrainian art emerged. While emigres such as Sonia Delaunay and Alexander Archipenko found fame outside their homeland, the followers of Mykhailo Boichuk focused on Byzantine revivalism, and the artists of the Kultur Lige sought to promote the development of contemporary Yiddish culture. The first avant-garde exhibitions in Ukraine featured the radical art of Davyd Burliuk and Alexandra Exter, and the dynamic canvases of the Kyiv-based Cubo-Futurist Oleksandr Bohomazov.
In Kharkiv, Vasyl Yermilov championed the industrial art of Constructivism, while Vadym Meller, Anatol Petrytskyi, Oleksandr Khvostenko-Khvostov and Borys Kosarev revolutionized theatre design. The attempt to build a national identity in Ukraine resulted in a polyphony of styles and artistic developments across a full range of media - from oil paintings, sketches and sculpture to collages, cinema posters and theatre designs. Twelve internationally renowned scholars, including curators from the National Art Museum of Ukraine, bring to life this astonishing period of creativity in Ukraine and all the movements it encompassed.
Strange Impressions
Most known for her bold and darkly painted portraits, Brooks was revolutionary in her feminist renderings of women in resistance. Openly queer, she challenged conceptions of gender and sexuality in her art, which also served as her refuge. While many of her male counterparts were disfiguring and cubing their subjects—often women—Brooks gave personhood and power to the figures she painted. Her frank approach to her complicated relationship with her mother, faith, wealth, sexuality, and gender is complemented by a keen wit that echoes the gray tones of her work.
Though her paintings are held in major collections, Brooks’s influence in modernist circles of the early twentieth century is largely underexplored. This new publication, guided by Brooks’s own impressionistic musings, bridges an important gap between the art and the artist. An introduction by Lauren O’Neill-Butler explores Brooks’s role as an artist in the early twentieth century through the lens of gender and sexuality.
Maria Bartuszová - Catalogue Raisonné (GB)

Czech-born Slovak sculptor Maria Bartuszová (1936 – 1996) studied at the Ceramics and Porcelain Studio at Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, and spent most of her life in Košice, Slovakia. This Catalogue Raisonné provides a comprehensive overview of her sculpture, her original techniques and methods, and themes and ideas she explored that have remained undiscovered for a long time.
A distinctiveness of Maria Bartuszová's approach is her concentration on the intimate experience of art, perceiving the creativity of nature and being connected to the laws of the universe. She used her knowledge of natural sciences, combined with a holistic approach, and her skill of intuitive guidance and the imaginative activity of play, as a conceptual method while experimenting with materials and the technical potential of sculpture. Her morphological thinking sought ideal form and haptic attraction, which encourages the viewer to touching – forging a certain closeness and intimate experience based on physical and mental participation. Maria Bartuszová’s work exudes fascination with life, but also humility towards it, both of which are the driving force behind her creativity.

Paula Modersohn-Becker: A Life in Art
An accessible introduction to the life and work of this trailblazing pioneer of early modernism, published to coincide with a major exhibition at the Royal Academy, London.
Paula Modersohn-Becker is today hailed as one of the great pioneers of modernism. When she died in 1907 at the age of just 31, she had completed more than 700 paintings and 1,000 drawings and prints. Despite selling only a few paintings during her lifetime, her distinct style, daring subject matter and perseverance in overcoming barriers to women left a significant artistic mark on the brief epoch between the old and the new, and paved the way for the German avant-garde.
Uwe M. Schneede, one of the foremost experts on Modersohn-Becker's work, shows how the artist translated her life's experiences into her own, very distinctive, pictorial language. He focuses in particular on her time in Paris, where she absorbed the luminous palette and expressive brushwork of the French avantgarde, and which so strongly impacted her ambitions and artistic trajectory. Schneede's lively narrative is supported by some 120 illustrations, and peppered throughout with quotations from Modersohn's letters and diaries.
Picasso: The Self-Portraits

Much has been said and written about Picasso's life and art, but until now his self-portraits have never been studied and presented in a single book, perhaps because the artist always left many doubts about his work. However, there is no doubt that Picasso represented himself ceaselessly, whether in a dashed-off pencil sketch, as a flourish at the bottom of a letter, or on a giant canvas.
At the suggestion of Picasso's widow Jacqueline, the distinguished art historian Pascal Bonafoux began researching Picasso's self-portraits more than forty years ago. This meticulously researched book presents the fruits of his decades-long project. From the first attributed painting in 1894 as a thirteen-year-old boy, until Picasso's final self-portrait in 1972, a year before his death, Bonafoux charts the evolution of the artist's life and art. Here is Picasso as a student; as a young bohemian; an impetuous artist in Paris; as harlequin; as lover, husband and father; and finally, as an old man confronting his mortality. The book comprises about 170 drawings, paintings and photographs, some from private collections and previously unpublished, bringing together for the first time the attributed self-portraits of this genius of 20th-century art.

Jozef Porubčin sa narodil v roku 1950 v Malých Ledniciach. Po absolvovaní Základnej školy v Domaniži a Ľudovej školy umenia v Považskej Bystrici bol prijatý na Strednú školu umeleckého priemyslu v Bratislave. Po maturite bol prijatý na Vysokú školu výtvarných umení v Bratislave, na ktorej študoval súčasne dva odbory – reštaurovanie umeleckých a historických pamiatok (profesor K. Veselý) a monumentálnu maľbu (profesor O. Dubay a F. Gajdoš). Štúdium na Vysokej škole výtvarných umení v Bratislave ukončil v roku 1975. Žije a tvorí v Bratislave.
