Publikace Senzační realismus dokumentuje ojedinělou Pištěkovu výstavní prezentaci v Alšově jihočeské galerii v Hluboké nad Vltavou, která byla zaměřena výhradně na malířovu hyperrealistickou fázi, s lehkými náznaky přesahu k jeho evropským či americkým druhům. Malíř byl na tomto výstavním projektu představen v pokud možno komplexním přehledu jeho nejznámějších a ikonických děl, které vznikaly zejména od první poloviny 70. let 20. století do první poloviny následné dekády; malíř se však ke svému svébytnému realismu průběžně vracel až do doby nedávné. V kontextu tvorby Theodora Pištěka (nar. 25. října 1932 v Praze) je tak navýsost napínavé srovnání jeho přístupu s americkým hyperrealistou Richardem Estesem, a také s tendencí evropského malířství, které z realismu vycházelo (Jacques Monory, Gerhard Richter, Gérard Gasiorowski) či na něj bezprostředně navázalo (Gottfried Heinvein).
The catalogue Sensational Realism illustrates a unique exhibition of Pištěk’s artwork in the South Bohemian Gallery in Hluboká nad Vltavou, which focused specifically on his hyper-realistic era with a hint of his European and American comrades’ paintings. The painter was introduced in a complex overview by his pivotal and iconic works from the beginning of the 1970s till the first half of the next decade, nevertheless, he was returning to his distinctive realism until recently. In the context of Theodor Pištěk’s (born 25th October 1932 in Prague) work it’s utterly thrilling on the one hand to compare his approach to American hyperrealist Richard Estes, and on the other, to the tendencies of European painting, which are based on realism (Jacques Monory, Gerhard Richter or Gérard Gasiorowski) or they immediately follow up on realism (Gottfried Helnwein).

Matisse. Cut-outs. 40th Ed.
Toward the end of his monumental career as a painter, sculptor, and lithographer, an elderly, sickly Matisse was unable to stand and use a paintbrush for long. In this late phase of his life-he was almost 80 years of age-he developed the technique of "carving into color," creating bright, bold paper cut-outs. Though dismissed by some contemporary critics as the folly of a senile old man, these gouaches decoupees (gouache cut-outs) in fact represented a revolution in modern art, a whole new medium that reimagined the age-old conflict between color and line.

Born in Helsinki among the Swedish-speaking Finnish minority, Jansson was brought up with a love for making art and stories in a supportive artistic family. From a year later until 1953, she drew humorous and political cartoons as well as striking front covers for the satirical magazine Garm, responding to the Second World War and its aftermath as she developed from art student to painter and muralist, bohemian and lesbian. This book also explores the emergence of her Moomin world, appearing in her first children's book in 1945 and then in newspaper strips. These would lead to her being headhunted by the London Evening News, the world's biggest-selling evening paper, to write and draw a daily Moomin newspaper cartoon. This body of work is one of her great achievements, expanding her stories, settings and cast and invigorating her drawing and writing. Jansson also wrote many novels, documented here along with personal commentaries from her own writings.
