Hiroshige. Nature and the City is the most extensive overview of the career of the famed Japanese print artist, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) in the English language to date. It is based on the largest collection of Hiroshige in private hands outside Japan, the Alan Medaugh collection. The catalogue consists of 500 entries, with an emphasis on urban and rural landscapes, fan prints and prints of birds and flowers. Grouped chronologically by subject, it presents Hiroshige's interpretation of the urban scenes from his hometown Edo (present-day Tokyo), the great series documenting travel along the famous highways of Japan, and the idylls of nature as represented in his bird-and flower prints. Hiroshige often incorporated poetry in his works and for the first time all textual content is transcribed and translated. Additionally, the catalogue pays due attention to the differences between variant editions of his prints. Thus, it provides essential comparative material for every scholar, dealer, and collector.

Soubor třinácti skladbiček Kryštůfkovy písničky pro nejmenší zpěváky je složen ze skladeb pro zpěv a klavír (Mámo, táto, v komoře je myš, Houpala se s kočkou kočka, Kyblíček a lopatička, Kámen, nůžky, papír, Kolo, kolo mlýnský) a pro zpěv, klavír a další hudební nástroj (trubky, tympány, klarinety, pozoun, fagot, kontrabas, xylofon, flétna), který vnáší do každé drobné kompozice instrumentální barvu, náladu, humor, umocňuje hudební charakter drobné písňové formy (Leze, leze po železe, Bumtarata na ta vrata, Paci, paci, pacičky, Takhle jedou páni, Šiju boty, Ten vařil, Závin, Kukačka a Kryštof). V jednotlivých partiturách je naznačeno, že lze pro snadnější provedení nástroje vynechat (senza) nebo jejich part přebírá klavír (ossia). Klavírní doprovod je mnohdy velice osobitý, harmonická složka je plná moderních spojů, zahuštěných či mimotonálních akordů, ale hudba je zcela tonální, má vztah k předem dané tónině, tedy využívá především tóny patřící dané stupnici (C dur, E dur, Es dur). Cyklus na texty známých dětských říkanek je v pěvecké melodické lince zcela tonální. Výjimečně se objeví chromatický postup (Houpala se s kočkou kočka, Paci, paci, pacičky) nebo křížkem zvýšený, alterovaný tón (Takhle jedou páni). Klavírní doprovod je však pro zpěv v těchto případech intonační oporou. Opačně tomu může být v písni Kyblíček a lopatička. Její melodika je prostá, v rozsahu kvinty (pěti tónů), především stupnicovitá. Doprovod ve formě polky však obsahuje řadu mimotonálních tónů, takže zpěvák musí svou melodiku důkladně znát, ale současně prožít humorný moderní doprovod zcela přirozeně. V těchto aspektech je každá skladba cyklu skutečně malým uměleckým dílem. Vydatnou pomůckou jsou pro každou píseň vytvořené nahrávky doprovodů (QR kódy). Některé písně jsou melodicky prosté, vycházejí jen z jediného tónu (Bumtarata na ta vrata), některé jsou v rozsahu prvních pěti tónů stupnice (Kyblíček a lopatička, Šiju boty, Paci, paci, pacičky, Mámo, táto, v komoře je myš, Kukačka a Kryštof, Kolo, kolo mlýnský), maximálním rozsahem je oktáva (Takhle jedou páni), tedy celá durová řada, stupnice kombinující melodiku stupnicovitých kroků s rozklady akordů. Cyklus skladeb Kryštůfkovy písničky vznikl spontánně pro všechny nadané malé zpěváky, jejich učitele a pro všechny ostatní, kteří zpěvem, aktivním prožitkem neopomíjejí hudební procesy ve výchově a zrání dětí.

Hokusai's Fuji
A wonderfully illustrated exploration of one of Hokusai’s key motifs: Mount Fuji.
Katsushika Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji and the three volumes of his subsequent One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji show his fascination with a single motif: Mount Fuji. Hokusai’s near-obsession with Fuji was part of his hankering after artistic immortality. In Buddhist and Daoist tradition, this mountain was thought to hold the secret to eternal life, as one popular interpretation of its name suggests: fu-shi (“not death”).
Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji was produced from 1830 to 1832, when Hokusai was in his seventies and at the height of his career. Among the prints are three of the artist’s most famous: The Great Wave of Kanagawa; Fine Wind, Clear Morning; and Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit. By the time he created his second great tribute to Mount Fuji, three volumes comprising One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji, he was using the artist names “Gakyo Rojin” (“old man crazy for painting”) and “Manji” (“ten thousand things” or “everything”). Contrasting the mountain’s steadfastness and solidity with the changing world around it, Hokusai depicts Fuji through different seasons, weather conditions, and settings, and in so doing communicates an important message: while life changes, Fuji stands still.
Including all illustrations from these two masterful series, Hokusai’s Fuji also features many of Hokusai’s earlier renditions of the mountain, as well as later paintings. In this way, through Mount Fuji, this volume traces a history of Hokusai’s oeuvre.

Divadlo Járy Cimrmana: Hry a semináře
Zakládající schůze Divadla Járy Cimrmana se konala 29. října 1966 v kanceláři Armádní redakce Československého rozhlasu. Jiří Šebánek (1930-2007) na ni pozval Miloně Čepelku, Ladislava Smoljaka a Zdeňka Svěráka. V Praze tak vznikla originální scéna, jejíž mystifikační humor zasáhl několik generací a která přitahuje diváky i po čtyřiceti letech své existence.

Man Ray (1890–1976) was a polymath modernist, working in painting, sculpture, film, printmaking, and poetry. But it was his work in photography, with nude studies, fashion work, and portraiture that saw him pioneering a new chapter in the history of camerawork and art.
With a wide-ranging collection of both his famous and lesser-known works, this monograph gives a vivid overview of Man Ray’s multifaceted practice and photographic legacy. It traces Ray from his artistic beginnings in New York through to his central role in the Parisian avant-garde, where he featured in the first Surrealist exhibition with Jean Arp, Max Ernst, André Masson, Joan Miró, and Pablo Picasso and produced such now iconic works as Noire et blanche and Le Violon d’Ingres.
