Kniha je součástí dlouhodobého výzkumu Lannovy sbírky skla v Uměleckoprůmyslovém museu v Praze, kterou Vojtěch Lanna - jeden ze zakladatelů a nejvýznamnějších mecenášů muzea - věnoval instituci v roce 1906, čímž ji povýšil mezi přední evropské sbírkotvorné ústavy. Navazuje na předchozí publikace věnované antickému a středověkému sklu a nabízí ucelený pohled na vývoj italského renesančního sklářství i evropské produkce skla v benátském stylu, jehož výroba a tvarosloví přetrvaly v řadě sklářských center až hluboko do baroka.
