Gabrielle Chanel - Fashion Manifesto
Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel is an icon of fashion, and can lay claim to having invented the look of the 20th century. At the height of the Belle Epoque, she stripped women of their corsets and feathers, bobbed their hair, put them in bathing suits and sent them out to get tanned in the sun. She introduced the little black dress; trousers for women; costume jewelry; the exquisitely comfortable suit that became her trademark. Early in the Roaring Twenties, Chanel made the first ever couture perfume - No. 5 - presenting it in the famous little square-cut flagon that, inspired by Picasso and Cubism, became the arch symbol of the Art Deco style. Schiele
After Egon Schiele (1890-1918) freed himself from the shadow of his mentor and role model Gustav Klimt, he had just ten years to inscribe his signature style into the annals of modernity before the Spanish flu claimed his life. Being a child prodigy quite aware of his own genius and a passionate provocateur, this didn't prove to be too big a challenge.
His haggard, overstretched figures, extreme depiction of sexuality and self-portraits, in which he staged himself with emaciated facial expressions bordering between brilliance and madness, had none of the decorative quality of Klimt's hymns of love, sexuality and yearning devotion. Instead, Schiele's work spoke of a brutal honesty, one that would upset and irreversibly change Viennese society.
Although his works were later defamed as "degenerate" and for a time were almost forgotten altogether, they influenced generations of artists-from Gunter Brus and Francis Bacon to Tracey Emin. Today, his then misunderstood oeuvre continues to fetch exorbitant prices on the international art market.
This monograph, first published in an XL edition, is now available in a slightly abridged, more compact edition to celebrate TASCHEN's 40th anniversary and features the paintings and drawings that retrace the fertile last decade of Schiele's life. These works are accompanied by essays introducing his life and oeuvre, situating the Austrian master in the context of European Expressionism and charting his extraordinary legacy.

Divadlo a společnost kolem roku 1989
Jak se politické konflikty promítají do divadelního prostředí a jak naopak divadlo vstupuje do společenských procesů? Coby historik a současně člověk dlouhodobě činný v kulturní politice se Bohumil Nekolný domnívá, že řada problémů české kultury a konkrétně divadelnictví pramení z ne zcela zvládnutého transformačního procesu na přelomu 80. a 90. let. Knihu tvořenou vlastními statěmi, úvahami a polemikami z této doby rámuje závěrečnou studií, která má za cíl v historickém kontextu upozornit právě na přetrvávající problémy systému provozování a podpory živého umění v Česku.
Jan Šmíd - Photography
Jan Šmíd je fotograf, krajinář. Je jedním ze tří Čechů, kteří jsou nositeli nejcennějšího a nejprestižnějšího fotografického titulu Master QEP (Master Qualified European Photographer udělovaný Federation of European Photographers v Bruselu). Zatím za své fotografie získal více než 200 medailí a ocenění, které pro sebe, ale zejména pro českou fotografii vybojoval na mezinárodních fotografických soutěžích. Když se řekne "fotografie", každý si představí "cvak" a hotovo. Jan Šmíd pracuje metodou skládané fotografie, kdy jeden motiv vzniká z desítek až stovek jednotlivých snímků. Díky tomu jsou jeho fotografie technicky dokonalé. Ve své tvorbě se specializuje na krajinářská panorama a snímky noční oblohy (http://www.smidphotography.com/). Nyní nazrál čas, aby vydal svou knižní prvotinu. Knihu vydává nakladatelství Green Mango ve stejně luxusní podobě, jako jsou jeho fotografie.

Nová publikace Architekt Carl Seidl 1858 - 1936 je vydána v rámci řady architektonických monografií vydávaných spolkem architektů Obecní dům Brno.
Monografie nově mapuje architektonické dílo vídeňského architekta Carla Seidla, pocházejícího z významné šumperské rodiny podnikatelů v textilním průmyslu. Jeho stavby se nacházejí na rodném Šumpersku, v polské Lodži a na Jadranské riviéře v Chorvatsku. Reprezentativní publikace bude sloužit k lepšímu poznání architektova díla realizovaného v rakousko-uherské monarchii a překvapí čtenáře mimořádným rozsahem vysoce kvalitních staveb.

Louis I. Kahn
