Deník fotografa 1928—1954 oslovuje impulsivností vidění Josefa Jindřicha Šechtla (1877—1954). Uspokojit očekávání technicky a kompozičně precizním snímkem autorovi nestačilo. Zajímalo ho nekonvenční komentování doby. Projevuje se volbou motivů i letmým podáním záběrů. Předností je subjektivita postřehů, prostupující soustavné proměňování osudu ve vědomí. Historiografie napojená na velká centra dlouho táborského tvůrce zanedbávala. Nicméně rod Šechtlů vytváří a šíří fotografické památky na život svůj i svých současníků pátou generací. Studie Josefa Mouchy vřazuje Josefa Jindřicha Šechtla do odpovídajících světových souvislostí. Kniha vznikla za podpory města Tábor a Jihočeského kraje.

Fotograf, kritik a teoretik fotografie, autor a kurátor vystav vystudoval periodický tisk, televizní a filmovou žurnalistiku na Karlově univerzitě (1975–1980). Byl redaktorem Revue Fotografie (1990–1995). Od poloviny 90. let působí ve svobodném povolání, publikuje nejčastěji v časopisech Literární noviny, Ateliér a Fotograf. Uspořádal řadu osobních i kolektivních výstav, roku 1989 spoluzakládal Aktiv volné fotografie, roku 1991 Pražský dům fotografie. Podílel se na řadě projektů, mj. s kolektivem autorů na titulu Alternativní kultura: Příběh české společnosti 1945–1989 (2001), řadou kapitol přispěl do obsáhlého katalogu výstavy Fotogenie identity / Paměť české fotografie (2006). Samostatně vydal eseje o historii fotografie a technických obrazech Zážitek arény (2004), novelu Mimochodem (2004) a soubor autorských profilů Obrazy z dějin fotografie české (2011).

The Book of Palms
On 15 December 1868, Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius (1794–1868), Professor of Botany at the University of Munich and director of the Royal Botanic Garden, was carried to his grave in a coffin covered with fresh palm leaves. These were a reference to his groundbreaking Historia naturalis palmarum: opus tripartitum (Natural History of Palms: a work in three volumes), published between 1823–1853. At the time, this encyclopedic treasury contained the sum of human knowledge on the topic, and included 240 exquisite chromolithographic illustrations, including landscape views of palm habitats and botanical dissections. This epic folio was based on Martius's expedition to Brazil and Peru with zoologist Johann Baptist von Spix, sponsored by King Maximilian I of Bavaria, to investigate natural history and tribal Indians. From 1817 to 1820 the pair travelled over 2,250 km (1,400 miles) throughout the Amazon Basin, the most species-rich palm region in the world, collecting and sketching specimens. On their return both men were awarded knighthoods and lifetime pensions. In his epic work, Martius outlined the modern classification of palm, produced the first maps of palm biogeography, described all the palms of Brazil, and collated the sum of all known genera of the palm family. For apart from his own collection of specimens and notes, Martius also wrote about the findings of others. Martius's folio is unusual in its inclusion of cross-sectioned diagrams, conveying the architecture of these mighty trees, which central Europeans would have found hard to imagine accurately. Equally remarkable are the color landscapes showing various palms – often standing alone – which have a simple and elegant beauty. This famous work is an unrivaled landmark in botanic illustration and taxonomy.

Monografia Divadlo SkRAT. Ctibor Bachratý. Fotografie. má niekoľko prvenstiev – napríklad je prvou publikáciou, ktorá dokumentuje etapu tvorby Divadla SkRAT vo fotografii a je tiež prvou samostatnou publikáciou venovanou tvorbe Ctibora Bachratého. Výber fotografií je vizuálnou prechádzkou takmer 20-ročnou históriou tvorby tohto divadla, ktoré je výnimočným reprezentantom fenoménu devised theatre („metóda kolektívnej tvorby“). Fotografie z 25 inscenácií sú zoradené chronologicky od prvej premiéry (Morča, 2003) až po poslednú inscenáciu, ktorú bolo možné do tohto edičného projektu zaradiť (Skupinová terapia, 2021). Na knihe spolupracovali. Autorkou úvodnej štúdie je Anna Grusková, druhým textom v tejto primárne výtvarnej publikácii je osobne ladený príspevok vedúcej osobnosti SkRATu – Ľubomíra Burgra.
Spoločné východiská, pohľady na tému pomenúva sám Bachratý v citátoch, ktoré čitateľa sprevádzajú fotografickou prechádzkou:„SkRAT prešiel veľkým a odvážnym vývojom. Poetiku tohto divadla zachytávam, ale nedokážem alebo nechcem ju pomenovať a hodnotiť. Na začiatku bola určitá mágia, niečo, čo sa prenieslo zo Stoky a prešlo premenou. A potom prišla tá špecifická paródia v Umri, skap a zdochni. A ďalej tie inscenácie so zvláštnou vizualitou širokouhlého plátna ako napríklad Napichovači a lízači.“ (...) „Vždy mám pochybnosti. Ale keď som vyberal fotografie do tejto knižky, povedal som si – predovšetkým to bude dobré svedectvo o jednom dobrom divadle. Na prvom mieste je to divadlo a až potom fotograf.“ (...) „Moje pomenovanie podstaty SkRAT-u je v týchto fotografiách.“ Autorkou návrhu obálky a grafického dizajnu je Mária Rojko.

Karel Kotas
Architekt Karel Kotas přichází do Moravské Ostravy na jaře roku 1925 do funkce stavebního dozoru při výstavbě Nové radnice. Kromě toho, že ovlivnil podobu této dominanty, záhy se začal podílet i na dalších projektech, souvisejících s proměnou ostravského průmyslového souměstí v industriální velkoměsto. Podle jeho návrhů vyrostla v centru Moravskoostravská spořitelna, nynější radniční budova centrální části města, dále sídlo pojišťovny Riunione Adriatica di Sicurta na nároží Zámecké a Puchmajerovy ulice, sídlo tenisového klubu, obchodní dům Brouk a Babka na Smetanově náměstí, palác Občanské záložny v Reální ulici, obytné domy Dělnické záložny ve Veleslavínově ulici nebo palác Melantrich na nároží Umělecké a Nádražní ulice. Projektoval i oční pavilon městské nemocnice nebo modlitebnu metodistické církve. Koncem 30. let se k tomu přiřadil palác Generálního ředitelství Severní dráhy Ferdinandovy s pozoruhodnou uměleckou výzdobou na Prokešově náměstí a sousední bytový dům. Ve svých projektech Kotas spojoval cit pro účelnost s důrazem věnovaným materiálové skladbě, barevnosti i vytříbené hmotové a prostorové kompozici. Využíval formy nového klasicismu a purismu, obohacené o funkcionalistické principy s ohledem na dané prostředí. Pozornost věnoval moderní italské architektuře, sledoval tvorbu Le Corbusiera a dalších představitelů tehdejšího uměleckého a architektonického života. Spolupracoval s umělci, věnoval se spolkové činnosti. Kromě Moravské Ostravy se podílel na utváření moderního Brna, Prahy nebo lázní Teplic nad Bečvou. Letos vydaná monografie Kotasova celoživotního díla pojednává o všech těchto etapách jeho tvorby. Úvodní přednáška jednoho z editorů svazku se zaměří především na Kotasovy ostravské plány a realizace v kontextu architektonického vývoje 20. a 30. let minulého století.

Film a dějiny 8. - Válka
Kolektivní monografie cíli zvláště na problematiku válečné (a) filmové propagandy. Zatímco na Západě se jedná o dlouhodobě zkoumané téma, u nás mu (filmoví) historici nikdy nevěnovali srovnatelnou pozornost a postupem času se „propaganda“ začíná řadit k „nejopuštěnějším“ a „nejzanedbávanějším“ termínům věd o kultuře. Množství zahraniční odborné literatury se zaměřuje na zkoumání sovětské, německé, ale i americké a britské filmové propagandy za 2. světové války. Hlavním tématem naší knihy je česká a slovenská filmová propaganda za téže (a přece jiné) války. Česká/slovenská kulturní, politická a válečná zkušenost (1939–1945) se samozřejmě liší od té britské či americké, takže ani zahraniční badatelské vzory nelze přenášet automaticky. Téma „protektorát a film“ zahrnuje specifika dobové kinematografie, včetně distribuce a recepce, „filmové osvěty“ čili propagandy, jejích institucí, a vůbec kulturní politiky. Další podstatnou oblast představují hrané a dokumentární filmy o protektorátu, resp. o Slovenském státu (SNP). Kniha se přitom pokouší v prvé řadě o nastínění širšího kontextu, tedy o vymezení tématu/vztahu války a filmu, a zahrnuje rovněž přehled sovětských a ruských filmů o Velké vlastenecké válce. Před rokem 1989 byly sovětské válečné snímky hojně uváděny v Československu a v celém východním bloku, v kinech i v televizi, takže sehrávaly významnou úlohu na poli propagandy. Je nepochybné, že 2. světová válka představuje pro ruské filmaře stále důležité téma a že produkce příslušných (vesměs) výpravných snímků se těší podpoře i ze strany současné politické garnitury v čele s prezidentem Putinem, který s oblibou zdůrazňuje význam Velké vlastenecké války jak v dějinách SSSR, tak pro současné Rusko.
