This publication considers Josef Albers' early development as an artist, beginning with the pre-Bauhaus years when he worked as an elementary school teacher in his native Bottrop in Western Germany, while sketching the landscape and architecture of his home town and studying courses in art by night. With a particular focus on works on paper, the book reveals not only the unappreciated naturalistic origins of his art, but also his ongoing interest in producing organic, surrealistic forms alongside the geometric abstraction for which he is best known. It presents dozens of prints, paintings and drawings from the first half of his career, as well as previously unseen photographs of the artist at work and on research trips to the ancient sites of Mexico where he found important sources of inspiration for his art and theories. With texts by two recognized Albers scholars, this volume offers a fresh and surprising view of a celebrated pioneer of modernism.
German-born artist Josef Albers (1888-1976) laid the foundations for some of the most important art education programs of the 20th century. In 1936, during his time working at Black Mountain College in North Carolina, he had his first solo exhibition in New York at J.B. Neumann's New Art Circle. In 1949, Albers left the college and began his famous Homage to the Square series. He taught at various institutions throughout America, including Yale University, New Haven. The Museum of Modern Art, New York, organized Albers' traveling exhibition in 1965 and a retrospective of his work was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in 1971. He died in 1976.

Experimentální dílna
Fotograf a režisér Jiří Jeníček, který stál ve 30. letech v čele armádní filmové skupiny, se celou svou osobou a v duchu moderních myšlenek o využití filmu a fotografie zasadil o nový styl a výraz vojenského (především krátkého) filmu. Armádní kinematografii od počátku považoval za synonymum experimentální dílny. Jak si všímá autorka publikace, americká filmová historička Alice Lovejoy, která vedla téměř desetiletý výzkum v českých archivech, pozoruhodné je především to, jak Jeníčkem vytvořená institucionální identita přežívala v armádním prostředí další tři desetiletí. Citelná byla dokonce v 50. letech a skutečnou renesanci zažila v letech 60., kdy se Československý armádní film (ČAF) stal pravděpodobně nejsvobodnějším prostorem pro filmovou produkci v Československu. Kniha, poprvé publikovaná v USA v roce 2015, si pokládá zásadní otázku: Jak se mohly formální experimenty (které navíc zpravidla kritizovaly samotné vojsko či stát) objevit v instituci tak rigidní, jako je armáda.

Jednými z takýchto zanikajúcich, no stále zachovaných, prvkov na území niekdajšieho Novohradu sú ľudové podoby bohato zdobených a tvarovaných náhrobníkov, ktorými hroby zosnulých označovali evanjelici augsburského vyznania od sedemdesiatych rokov 19. storočia takmer až do polovice 20. storočia len v niekoľkých obciach Novohradských vrchov.
Ide o najreprezentatívnejšiu ukážku ľudovej tvorivosti a ľudového výtvarného prejavu v priestore Novohradu zachovanú in situ, pre ktorú je charakteristická mnohorozmernosť výpovede. Sú to prvky vo vzťahu k jednotlivcovi, spoločenstvu i konkrétnemu priestoru vzniku s mimoriadne vysokým informačným potenciálom, ktorého výpovedná hodnota je však v mnohých ohľadoch nedocenená. Zachované kamenné náhrobníky – oltáriky, sú skutočnou kamennou databázou znakov a symbolov koncentrovanou na malom priestore niekoľkých cintorínov v Novohradských vrchoch. Sú výpoveďou o dobe, priestore a ľuďoch v ňom žijúcich. Sú výpoveďou o čarovnom, no zabudnutom kúsku Slovenska na styku Novohradu s Hontom a Podpoľaním.
Sú svedectvom o svete, ktorý sa vytratil.

Téma vizuálního antijudaismu nenávisti vůči Židům založené na náboženské odlišnosti a antisemitismu nenávistných obsahů postavených především na národnostním vymezování představuje nedílnou součást místních dějin: dějin náboženské, národnostní a rasové intolerance. Ta mohla pramenit z církevních doktrín, feudálních nařízení a později národnostních požadavků i obecné potřeby nalézt viníka prakticky jakýchkoli společenských problémů.
