Jacopo Benassi: Bologna Portraits
Bologna Portraits is the portrait of one of the most charming and least well-known Italian cities portrayed through the faces of the people who live there today. It started during the artist's many stays in the town. Discovering Bologna little by little, Jacopo Benassi took pictures, like a sort of notebook, of the faces of the most interesting people he met during his time there.
After a few months he already had a large portfolio of people which, like in a mosaic, built a bigger portrait of the whole city today. Bologna is probably the best-kept secret of the Italian cities with a great past. Large-scale tourism has never affected it, but in recent years it has been discovered by a growing group of sophisticated travellers passionate about art, culture, cinema and food.
The portraits are a mix of young artists, writers, minor and great musicians, leading businessmen, famous bar tenders, tailors, professors at the local university (the oldest in the Western world), personalities and international artists such as Nino Migliori and Luigi Ontani. All of them born or living in Bologna. The whole book is a study of real faces that are able to be meaningful and to tell a story, and recall a tradition like the study of faces by Pier Paolo Pasolini in some of his films, or Andy Warhol's Screen Tests.
But at the same time, they recall a masterpiece like Un Paese, the book produced by Paul Strand and Cesare Zavattini. The book includes a text by art critic Antonio Grulli.
Migrations
As the world refugee crisis intensified, back in 2017 two teachers of Illustration at Worcester University had the idea of contacting illustrator friends around the world, asking them to draw and send an original postcard on the theme of Migration, to form an installation at the Biennale of Illustration at Bratislava, Slovakia. The response astonished them, with hundreds of cards and personal messages, forming a visually stunning show. The installation has since been mounted in South Korea and will be displayed at further places around the world, including Amnesty International's London offices in the summer of 2019.
Over fifty of the postcards, mailed from 32 countries, are reproduced in actual size in this very special book, to be published on 9 May 2019. All the works have been donated and the book's royalties will be shared between Amnesty International and IBBY (International Board on Books for Youth). Leading children's book illustrators from the UK, including Christopher Corr, Neal Layton, Jackie Morris, Jane Ray and Chris Riddell, have contributed cards, along with illustrators from Argentina to Russia, South Africa to Iran.
Australian illustrator Shaun Tan has written the Introduction. Janetta Otter-Barry, publisher of Otter-Barry Books, says: "It's an honour to be chosen as publishers of this book. The fragility of a mailed postcard and of a migrating bird come together so aptly to capture the theme of human migration.

Oldřich Hamera
Oldřich Hamera (1944) je bez vší pochyby jedním z nejoriginálnějších umělců, spojujících ve své osobě hned několik talentů. Vedle výtvarného, je nezpochybnitelně i literární, pedagogický a rétorický. Přesto zůstal ve stínu. Za komunismu nedobrovolně a posléze z vlastního rozhodnutí, nechtěje se podílet na komercionalizaci kulturního provozu. Kniha přináší vůbec poprvé přehled vývoje Hamerova grafického díla od šedesátých let do současnosti. Přestavuje nejen netradiční techniky objevené v polovině padesátých let jeho učitelem a našim předním grafikem Vladimírem Boudníkem, jež Hamera upravuje a dodnes rozvíjí, ale i vlastní monotypické postupy a poodhaluje tajemství své tvorby. Hamerovo dílo je ukázkou stírání hranic mezi uměleckou tvorbou a jednotlivými vědními obory, kterým se umělec po celý život s vášní věnuje mineralogie, paleontologie a geologie. V textové části knihy Hamera vypráví o svém přátelství s Vladimírem Boudníkem, Bohumilem Hrabalem, se kterým prožil více než třicet let, i o setkáních s dalšími osobnostmi kulturního života. Kniha se věnuje také Hamerově neoficiální vydavatelské činnosti sedmdesátých a osmdesátých let.

Dnes patří Václav Fiala k nepřehlédnutelným osobnostem současné domácí sochařské scény. Patří k nejvšestrannějším tvůrcům své doby s výrazným monumentálním cítěním a schopností pro silné kontextuální působení soch v konkrétním prostředí. Dopracoval k osobitému výrazu, který jej charakterizuje a jasně vymezuje. Jeho dílo se v čase proměňuje, protože rád experimentuje. Má dokonalý cit pro materiál a občas, pro sochaře netradičně, zapojuje do konečného výrazu, s razancí a přímočarostí, i barvu.

Na malom priestore v okolí Slavína tu v posledných desaťročiach dominujú moderné vily s často nevšednou architektúrou. Autori objavili množstvo nových materiálov, fotografií a ďalších príbehov a informácií o vilách, ich majiteľoch a obyvateľoch a histórii tejto lokality.
Ve jménu moudrosti
Barokní knihovny patří k nejkrásnějším a také nejzajímavějším interiérům, které se z období baroka zachovaly. Jejich umělecká výzdoba vyniká především nástěnnými malbami, jejichž ikonografie je mnohdy zcela jedinečná. Náměty fresek obvykle navrhovali představení klášterů či vzdělaní členové klášterní komunity a jejich tematika byla vždy spojena s oslavou Boží moudrosti. Tento základní námětový okruh byl různě variován a v mnoha případech zahrnoval unikátní motivy, jejichž interpretace je dnes velmi obtížná. Porozumět těmto výjimečným malbám umožňuje studium dobové ikonologie a kulturního kontextu, v němž tyto malby vznikaly. Kniha je první monografií věnovanou umělecké výzdobě barokních klášterních knihoven v 18. století na Moravě. Je zaměřena zejména na rekonstrukci ikonografických programů nástěnných maleb v knihovnách, ale zabývá se také formálně-stylovou stránkou fresek a jejich autorstvím. Všímá si i další umělecké výzdoby knihovních sálů, zejména sochařské, a je-li to možné, zapojuje výzdobu knihoven do ikonologické koncepce daných objektů.

Designers today are striving to transform our relationship with the natural world. While the modern industrial age gave way to designs that vastly improved human enterprise through technology, there were unintended and destructive consequences for the environment. Humans are intrinsically linked to nature yet our actions have frayed this relationship, forcing designers to think more intentionally and to consider the impact of every design decision, from an artifact's manufacture and use to its obsolescence. Designers are aligning with biologists, engineers, agriculturists, environmentalists and many other disciplines to design a more harmonious and regenerative future. Based on these new partnerships, designers are asking different questions and anticipating future challenges, which not only change the design process, but also what design means.
Nature: Collaborations in Design includes over sixty-five international projects from the fields of architecture, product design, landscape design, fashion, interactive and communication design, and material research. More than 300 compelling and exquisite photographs, illustrations and content from data visualizations illustrate seven essays, which explain and explore designers' strategies around understanding, simulating, salvaging, facilitating, augmenting, remediating and nurturing nature.
