O českém výtvarném umění mezi léty 1947 – 1960 nebylo dosud nikdy uvažováno v širším evropském kontextu, který by se vyhnul stereotypu „železné opony“. Zároveň v pohledu na toto období se opakovaně předávají určitá klišé a stereotypy, která brání v pochopení skutečné povahy a pozice českého umění tohoto období v rámci poválečného světa. Cílem knihy je proto nabídnout nové zhodnocení českého umění této doby, které se vyhýbá stereotypu střední a východní Evropy, ale uvažuje o tomto umění jako o součásti komplikovaného poválečného vývoje celé Evropy. Poprvé se u nás syntetickou formou zaměřuje na celek české kultury v období vrcholného dogmatismu, na její oficiální a neoficiální struktury, včetně prvních let relativního politického uvolnění. Historičky umění Marie Klimešová a Hana Rousová patří k nestorkám oboru, kteří se daným obdobím zabývají většinu svého profesního života. Pertu No 15: Bohdan Hostiňák – László Szotyory
Katalóg pätnásteho ročníku projektu PERTU, sa zameriava na hľadanie analógií v súčasnom slovenskom a maďarskom výtvarnom umení. Skúma náhodné paralely v tvorbe dvoch výrazných osobností, ktoré sú založené na názorovej, štýlovej, tematickej či generačnej príbuznosti. Vytvára jedinečný komunikatívny priestor pre dialóg dvoch kultúr a objavenie nových súvislostí. Projekt realizovaný v dvojročných intervaloch, je ojedinelý v stredoeurópskom priestore – patrí ku kľúčovým projektom galérie.
Jeho aktérmi boli Bohdan Hostiňák (1968) a László Szotyory (1957). V ich odlišne zameranej tvorbe sa objavujú analogické témy a postupy vyrastajúce z podobných spoločensko-historických skúseností a zaujatia maľbou. Hoci sa nikdy nestretli, spája ich meditatívny, jemne ironický pohľad, oddanosť závesnému obrazu, záľuba v tradičných maliarskych technikách, erbových motívoch a sugestívnej symbolike. Projekt bol koncipovaný ako komunikatívna hra s prvkami retrospektívy – kde jednotlivé témy vzájomne korešpondovali a dopĺňali sa. Previedol od 90-tych rokov po súčasnosť – zdôraznil styčné body a odlišnosti tvorby autorov. Obaja čerpajú z dejín umenia a veľkých tém, vytvárajúc nadčasové kompozície, presýtené vlastnou symbolikou. Maľujú z vnútornej nevyhnutnosti – nezávisle od aktuálnych trendov maľby. Ich diela predstavujú maľované rébusy, podobenstvá či vizuálne metafory. Obklopuje ich atmosféra tajomstva a melanchólie. Tajomstvo je súčasťou príbehu – zahŕňa odkaz na fragmentárnosť poznania. U oboch autorov dominantné miesto zaujíma meditatívna krajina – ako dejisko symbolických nadčasových udalostí. Ženské postavy odkazujú u nich buď na arkadický vek nevinnosti a sublimovanú zmyselnosť, alebo sú nositeľkami zložitých symbolických významov a personifikáciami mýtu krásy. Zvieratá, červy, larvy – predstavujú prechodné formy bytia – alebo vyjadrujú elementárnu silu inštinktov. Tvoria kontrasty k civilizačným výdobytkom. Veľkou témou, ktorá sa tiahne ich tvorbou je téma harmónie a kontrastu – konfrontácia a komplementárnosť protikladov, ktorá dodáva dielam existenciálny rozmer, napätie a dynamiku. Diela oboch umelcov sú nesmierne kompaktibilné – ich dialóg obohatil slovensko-maďarský výtvarný kontext o nové poznatky.
Francúzska a nizozemská grafika do roku 1900 z daru Ernesta Zmetáka a Danice Zmetákovej
Katalóg k výstave sérii starej grafiky zo zbierok Ernesta Zmetáka a Danice Zmetákovej. Je zameraný na vzťahy dvoch kultúrnych oblastí – francúzskej a nizozemskej – ako sa inšpirovali a zároveň si zachovali vlastnú identitu. Výber diel poskytol prehľad od biblických príbehov, videných očami protestantov v 17. storočí, k ničím nerušenej hravosti a roztopašnosti francúzskeho rokoka 18. storočia až do začiatkov revolučných premien v 19. storočí. Francúzi vtedy naplno využili novoobjavené grafické techniky a tlačiarenské postupy, vytvorili z nich účinný nástroj politickej satiry alebo propagandy hospodárskych či technologických úspechov. Na druhej strane holandskí grafici 19. storočia sa snažili o dokonalé ovládnutie nových grafických techník a obnoviť slávu flámskych majstrov 16. a 17. storočia.
Najstaršia francúzska grafika v kolekcii je dielom Leonarda Gautiera a reprodukuje Michelangelov Posledný súd zo Sixtínskej kaplnky. V súbore prevládali práce rytcov a litografov 18. a 19. storočia. Napríklad: významného portrétistu Françoisa Chéreaua (1680 – 1729), jedného z najznámejších medirytcov francúzskeho rokoka Jacquesa-Philippea Le Basa (1707 – 1783), Claudea Augustinea Duflosa (1700 – 1786), syna známeho medirytca Claude Augustin Duflos (1665 – 1727), maliara a medirytca Philliberta Louisa Debucourta (1756 – 1832), Louisa Jacquesa Beaublého (činného 1801 – 1819) alebo medirytca Charlesa Alberta Waltnera (1846 – 1925). Raritou je portrét kniežaťa Christiana von Hardenburg (1808), vyhotovený technikou „physionotrace“, ktorú si nechal patentovať Edme Quénedey (1756 – 1830). Väčšia kolekcia portrétov vyhotovených touto technikou, sa nachádza v Britskom múzeu v Londýne. Galéria umenia Ernesta Zmetáka v Nových Zámkoch, je na Slovensku jedinou zbierkotvornou inštitúciou, ktorá uchováva takýto exemplár.
Z diel nizozemskej proveniencie boli zastúpené práce Jana Ditmaera (1538/1558 – 1603), Adriaena Collaerta (1560 – 1618), Willema van Swanenburgha (1580 – 1612), Adriaena van Ostade (1610 – 1685), Pietra van Lissebettena (1630 – 1678), Jacoba Peetersa (1637 – 1695), Valentina Lefebvreho (1642 – 1682), ale aj mladších autorov, napríklad Jana Punta (1711 – 1779).

Edvard Munch - Magic of the North
Munch’s pictorial worlds – the initial impetus for modernism
Edvard Munch’s radical modernity in painting was a challenge for his contemporaries. This applied in particular to the art scene in Berlin around 1900 which the Norwegian Symbolist artist influenced profoundly. In return, he received support there and was able to continue to develop his work. The publication is lavishly illustrated and describes knowledgeably the story of Munch and Berlin.
In 1892 the Association of Berlin Artists invited the still-unknown Edvard Munch (1863–1944) to an exhibition. The public was shocked by the colourful, sketch-like pictures. The artist enjoyed the furore and moved to the city on the Spree, where he repeatedly sojourned until 1908. Here he learned the techniques for printed graphics and presented for the first time paintings in several continuous series which would become central to his oeuvre. In Berlin, before long, the concept of the “Magic of the North” (Stefan Zweig) was no longer associated with romantic or naturalistic fjord landscapes, but with Munch’s psychologically concentrated pictorial worlds.
