Across several decades, self-taught photographer Amos Badertscher (1936-2023) made thousands of photographs of a liminal queer world: young male sex workers, drag performers, trans pioneers, and Baltimore, Maryland's inclusive, ribald nightlife. The encounters with these marginalized figures helped Badertscher understand his own queer identity and reveal a confident body of work that stakes out an important corner of queer art and aesthetics.
Made between the 1960s and early 2000s, the photographs featured here constitute an unparalleled chronicle of a culture of the era particular not only to Badertscher's hometown, but universally identifiable, one which began to fade with the movement of LGBTQ+ rights and liberation. Győrffy László kötete a poszthumán testképek kortárs képzőművészetben betöltött szerepét vizsgálja nemzetközi és hazai művészek praxisán keresztül. A felvilágosodás utópiáját, a teleologikus gondolkodást tagadó vagy mellőző poszthumán művek az utóbbi években mindinkább a filozófia, az esztétika és a kultúratudományok érdeklődésének homlokterébe kerültek. A poszthumánnak tekintett alkotások elsősorban a transzgresszió, azaz a határsértés aktusa révén artikulálódnak a kortárs művészeti térben: ennek lényeges vonása, hogy a teljes határátlépés lehetetlen, vagyis a jelen kötetben is tárgyalt határsértő művek tulajdonképpen folyamatosan a lehetetlent kísértik. Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858) was one of the last great artists in the ukiyo-e tradition. Literally meaning “pictures of the floating world,” ukiyo-e was a particular genre of art that flourished between the 17th and 19th centuries and came to characterize the Western world’s visual idea of Japan. In many ways images of hedonism, ukiyo-e scenes often represented the bright lights and attractions of Edo (modern-day Tokyo): beautiful women, actors and wrestlers, city life, and spectacular landscapes.
Though he captured a variety of subjects, Hiroshige was most famous for landscapes, with a final masterpiece series known as “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo” (1856–1858), which depicted various scenes of the city through the seasons, from bustling shopping streets to splendid cherry orchards.
This reprint is made from one of the finest complete original sets of woodblock prints belonging to the Ota Memorial Museum of Art in Tokyo. It pairs each of the 120 illustrations with a description, allowing readers to immerse themselves in these beautiful, vibrant vistas that became paradigms of Japonisme and inspired Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Art Nouveau artists alike, from Vincent van Gogh to James McNeill Whistler.

Rodin's Dancers
Charting Auguste Rodin's relationships with the dancers who shaped his signature style and his mythic persona.
Juliet Bellow traces Rodin's interactions with dance makers and performers during his late career (1890-1912) through a series of interrelated case studies. His exchanges with Loie Fuller, Vaslav Nijinsky, and members of the Cambodian Royal Ballet troupe were central to Rodin's development of a modern sculptural aesthetic and the construction of his artistic celebrity. But this was not a simple case of one-way influence. Northern Lights

The fascination of the North is enduring: vast, impenetrable coniferous forests on the edge of the Arctic polar region, "white" summer nights, the long darkness of snowy winters and the famous Northern Lights exert a magical attraction. The Fondation Beyeler is dedicating an exhibition to this global phenomenon with landscape paintings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries from Scandinavia, Finland and Canada. In addition to works by famous painters such as Edvard Munch, Akseli Gallen-Kallela and Hilma af Klint, it also features paintings by artists who are highly respected in their home countries, but who-unjustly-have been virtually unknown in Central Europe until now. Interwar
British architecture between the wars is most famous for the rise of modernism - the flat roofs, clean lines and concrete of the Isokon flats in Hampstead and the Penguin Pool at London Zoo - but the reality was far more diverse. As the modernists came of age and the traditionalists began to decline, there arose a rich variety of styles and tastes in Britain and across the empire, a variety that reflected the restless zeitgeist of the years before the Second World War.

Publikace Enter the Room vychází u příležitosti stejnojmenné výstavy, kterou Galerie hlavního města Prahy pořádá v prostorách Domu U Kamenného zvonu (28. 3. – 14. 9. 2025). Její obsah je proto nejen zaměřen na popis vystavených děl či představení participujících autorů, autorek a kolektivů, ale také představuje celkový kurátorský koncept projektu. Pomyslné jádro knihy pak tvoří text Ondřeje Trhoně a Filipa Hauera, který přibližuje kritické strategie současné herní tvorby, a tím vymezuje i její pozici v širším rámci umělecké produkce.
The publication Enter the Room coincides with the exhibition of the same name, organised by Prague City Gallery in the spaces of the Stone Bell House (28 March — 14 September 2025). Its content thus not only focuses on descriptions of the exhibited works or presentations of the participating artists and collectives, but also presents the entire curatorial concept of the project.
