Gypsy Music
Gypsies have for centuries been simultaneously vilified and romanticized—associated with criminality and dirt, but at the same time with color, magic, and music. Gypsy music is popular around the world and often performed with gusto at major events, including at weddings in Bulgaria, jazz bars in Paris, and festivals in the United States.
In Gypsy Music, Alan Ashton-Smith explores why this music has such wide appeal, surveying the varied styles that are considered to be gypsy music and asking what links them together. The book begins in the Balkans, home to the world’s largest Romani populations and a major site of gypsy music production. Yet, electronic sounds aren’t a new phenomenon; they have long permeated our sonic landscape. In Live Wires, Daniel Warner explores how five key electronic technologies—the tape recorder, circuit, computer, microphone, and turntable—have revolutionized musical thought.
Electronic music began as the otherworldly sounds of the film score for the 1956 film Forbidden Planet and the rarefied, new timbres of Stockhausen’s Kontakte a few years later, and is now a common soundscape in technology, media, and an array of music genres. The rise of a new audio culture has enabled more people than ever before to produce and listen to electronic music, from isolated experimenters, classical musicians, and jazz musicians to rock musicians, sound recordists, and newer generations of electronic musicians making hiphop, house, techno, and ambient music. Jaromír Funke - Avantgardní fotograf
Jaromír Funke (1896–1945) patří k nejvýznamnějším osobnostem české i světové fotografické avantgardy. Jeho díla jsou zastoupena v zásadních uměleckých institucích od Muzea J. Paula Gettyho v Los Angeles přes Muzeum moderního umění v New Yorku a Pompidouovo centrum v Paříži až po Muzeum fotografického umění v Tokiu. V poslední době nechybí v žádných seriózních dějinách fotografie nebo encyklopediích fotografů. Trvalo však dlouho, než bylo jeho důležité místo v meziválečné fotografické tvorbě plně uznáno nejenom v českém, ale i v mezinárodním kontextu.
Publikace Jaromír Funke - avantgardní fotograf - nezahrnuje příklady ze všech částí jeho tvorby, ale zaměřuje se výhradně na avantgardní díla osobitě a mnohdy velmi progresivně rozvíjející podněty kubismu, abstrakce, nové věcnosti, konstruktivismu a surrealismu.
Jaromír Funke Avant-Garde Photographer
Jaromír Funke (1896–1945) is one of the most important figures of Avant-garde photography amongst the Czechs and also internationally. His works are in collections of important art institutions ranging from the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris all the way to the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum. In recent years he has also appeared in all the serious histories and encyclopaedias of photography. But it has taken a long time to acknowledge Funke’s importance.
Our exhibition focuses on his Avant-garde photographs, which in a distinctive and often highly forward-looking way, elaborate the impetuses of Cubism, abstract art, New Objectivity, Constructivism, and Surrealism.

Texty obsažené v této knize si nekladou za cíl objevit jedinou pravdu o čase v architektuře a prostorových vztazích, které ji formují. Jsou to úvahy, které by snad mohly naznačit některé vztahy a vazby prostoru a času, na které je, podle mého názoru, dobré myslet při tvorbě nových staveb. V překotném životě tvůrčího architekta na ně nebývá vždy čas ani síla.
Ale pokud si troufáme posouvat se kupředu v evolučním vývoji světa, musíme se občas vracet k jeho základním atributům. A hledat jejich podstatu a výklad pro momentální čas, v němž budoucí dílo teprve vzniká.
Tato publikace by si považovala za čest, kdyby mohla být byť jen pomůckou, která pomůže otevřít určitou v ní popsanou oblast myšlení.
Je určena architektům, studentům, developerům, a hlavně všem, kteří rádi myslí.
Samozřejmě svůj vlastní výklad problému si musí každý tvůrce ujasnit sám.
