Svatý Bernardin Sienský (1380–1444), původem z Toskány, patří k nejvýznamnějším kazatelům 15. století. Tento reformátor a zakladatel řádu františkánů-observantů ovlivnil svým dílem nejen náboženský, politický a kulturní život na Apeninském poloostrově, ale jeho myšlenky našly širokou odezvu i v záalpské Evropě. Práce je vymezena dobou působení Bernardina Sienského a zhruba rokem 1526, kdy v jagellonských Čechách působnost řádu františkánů-observantů upa- dá vlivem sílícího luteranismu. Téma mapuje jednu odnož italské středověké estetiky a její absorpci v českém prostředí 15. až počátku 16. století. Vzniká tak osobitá, barevně akcentovaná, syntéza postupů modernistických avantgard s postkonceptuálními malířskými trendy současnosti, která nabourává klasické vnímání malovaného obrazu.

David Hanvald (born 1980 in Liberec) is one of the most sought-after Czech artists of his generation. In his paintings, he reevaluates and works with the ideas, impulses, and work of 20th-century modern artists. The result is a distinctive and colorful synthesis of modernist avant-garde approaches with contemporary post-conceptual tendencies that breaks down the usual way we perceive the painted image.
