Škola houslových etud I. a II. je komplexní výukový materiál, který je výsledkem celoživotní práce houslisty a vynikajícího pedagoga Václava Krůčka.
Progresivně řazené etudy řeší postupně všechny disciplíny techniky levé a pravé ruky (pohyblivost prstů, dvojhmaty, intervaly, chromatika, melodické ozdoby, výcvik paže, předloktí i zápěstí, základní druhy smyků atd.). Sculptural Structures Eero Saarinen's new dimensions The creator of the ubiquitous Knoll "Tulip" chairs and tables, Eero Saarinen (1910-1961) was one of the 20th century's most prominent space shapers, merging dynamic forms with a modernist sensibility across architecture and design. Among Saarinen's greatest accomplishments are Washington D.C.'s Dulles International Airport, the very sculptural and fluid TWA terminal at JFK Airport in New York, and the 630 ft. (192 m) high Gateway Arch of St. Louis, Missouri, each of them defining structures of postwar America. Catenary curves were present in many of his structural designs. During his long association with Knoll, Saarinen's other famous furniture pieces included the "Grasshopper" lounge chair and the "Womb" settee. Married to Aline Bernstein Saarinen, a well-known critic of art and architecture, Saarinen also collaborated with Charles Eames, with whom he designed his first prize-winning chair. Charlotte Salomon. Life or Theatre
When German artist Charlotte Salomon (1917–1943) handed her gouache series Life? or Theater? over to a friend, she beseeched him to “take good care of it, it is my entire life.” A few months later, the five-months pregnant Charlotte was picked up by a Gestapo truck, deported to Drancy, and then on to Auschwitz, where she died upon arrival at the age 26.
The work Salomon left behind is, in a very real sense, her piece de résistance – in her own words, “something wildly eccentric.” A cycle of nearly 1,300 autobiographical gouaches, it combines creative force with pioneering personal narrative into one shattering document of self-expression.
Divided into three sections, the gouaches unveil a vivid self-portrait spanning across all facets of Charlotte's existence: from a complicated family life, marked by the suicides of nearly all female relatives; growing up in Berlin; her close relation to singing teacher Alfred Wolfsohn; the rise of the Nazis; to her exile to France in 1939. Throughout, the artist challenges these destructive forces by deploying playful pseudonyms and fantastical elements alongside emotional candor, remarkable observation, and a meticulous visual memory. Her film strip-like sequences are interspersed not only with words but also musical suggestions, making Life? or Theater? the storybook for a whole musical, years before the heyday of that genre.
Without comparison, the gouaches are a triumph of personal truth and individual expression. Published here with a selection of the 450 most important pieces, Life? Or Theatre? is an unrivaled opus magnum from a great and ambitious artist, dark with her early death, but luminous with her precision, her lyricism, and her courage.

Avedon and Baldwin's seminal book brought back to life
In 1964, Richard Avedon, at the time the world's most famous fashion photographer, and James Baldwin, America's best-known black writer collaborated on a searing portrait book Nothing Personal. This controversal classic from the Mad Men era explores the contradictions and extremities at the heart of the American experience, and is especially timely in the age of Donald Trump.
Avedon's subjects range from intellectuals, politicians, former slaves, newlyweds, society ladies, artists, and civil rights activists, shot in his signature formal and graphic black and white, often tightly cropped. The collection is all the more poignant through its direct juxtaposition of specific images, such as the Jewish and gay intellectual Allen Ginsberg placed opposite the American Nazi Party. Avedon's work with mental asylum patients, shot in a grainy documentary style, is equally harrowing, although he chooses to end Nothing Personal on a hopeful, positive note, with photographs of children and parents bonding together in the Californian ocean.
The photographs are complemented by four untitled essays by Baldwin, a stream of consciousness and critique of a society that he feels is unjust, alienating, divisive, and therefore in the midst of an existential crisis. In a highly personal and pertinent testimony, Baldwin openly writes about his own experience of harassment by a racist policeman on the streets of New York.
Designed by Marvin Israel, Nothing Personal is also an art-directed triumph. An "oversized" book in its own white slipcase, the minimal and striking placement of images and text alike revolutionized the packaging of photography books. This is a meticulous reprint of the original, which has long been out of print, produced in close collaboration with the Richard Avedon Foundation.
A 72-page accompanying booklet features never before seen outtakes, portraits of Avedon at work, correspondence, ephemera, and an essay by Balwin expert and Pulitzer Prize winner Hilton Als. Als traces the making of Nothing Personal and documents the personal and creative relationship between Avedon and Baldwin, who were high school friends in the 1940s.
Nothing Personal's dark, disturbing vision of America has inevitably divided critics, and Avedon in particular endured some harsh criticism. Some felt that a fashion photographer had no place in dabbling in social commentary, while others found his book to be an elitist statement by New York liberals, unrepresentative of the true feelings of "real" Americans. Sound familiar?
