Marina Abramovic & Ulay: No Predicted End
Two of the most iconic performance artists collaborated for 17 years. This book covers the final meeting between Marina Abramovic and Ulay after year-long conflict.
Marina Abramovic and Ulay met on November 30, 1975, their shared birthday, and became both partners and artistic collaborators. Together they created groundbreaking performances such as Relations in Space, in which they collided head-on for over an hour, Rest Energy, in which they balanced a bow with the arrowhead aimed at Marina's heart, and Night-sea Crossing, in which they sat in silence facing each other for seven hours, repeated 22 times. Their last performance in 1988 consisted of a 4,000 km walk from opposite ends of the Great Wall of China, not to get married, as planned, but to get divorced. After a touching reunion in The Artist is Present in 2010 and a subsequent conflict over rights, they met one last time, shortly before Ulay's death, for a conversation about their love and artistic legacy. This meeting became a final work of art, where the truth behind the masks was explored, not through pain, but in the light of death.
Louisiana Channel filmed their conversation and it has resulted in a richly illustrated book. The book has been selected a Best Danish Book Design of the year.

Marina Abramovic. Free Interdisciplinary Performance Lab
The pioneer of performance art and her class
With the first appointment of the outstanding performance artist Marina Abramovic to the Pina Bausch Professorship at the Folkwang University of the Arts, the focus in the 202323 academic year was placed on transdisciplinarity, artistic daring and social awareness.
The project supervised by Abramovic, entitled "Free Interdisciplinary Performance Laboratory (FIPL)", was realised in a class put together by her, in which she brought together over 20 students from the fields of music (classical and jazz, instrumental, vocal and composition), dance, design, photography, (physical) theatre and directing. The students developed individual or collective concepts for performances and learnt how to develop a longterm performative work form in an experiencebased process. In a workshop entitled "Cleaning the House", which was organised according to a method developed by Marina Abramovic, the students developed a sense of the presence required in performances, including the exploration of their individual physical and mental limits.

Nekonečný sloup a jiné hry
Světoznámý historik náboženství Mircea Eliade (1907-1986), jehož odborné dílo i poválečná tvorba prozaická jsou českému čtenáři známy už téměř v úplnosti, se nyní představuje i jako dramatický autor. O problematiku divadla se zajímal už od mládí, jeho úvahy však nikdy nevykrystalizovaly v nějakou ucelenou teorii, najdeme je roztroušené především v jeho poválečné novelistice a románech Svatojánská noc a Devatenáct růží. Modernistické, prvotní posvátnosti zbavené pojetí divadla, se podle Eliada už vyčerpalo a vyvstává potřeba návratu k pramenům, neboť „divadlo by se velice záhy mohlo stát novou eschatologií nebo soteriologií, technikou spásy“. Jeho vlastní hry v duchu těchto představ hojně odkazují ke světovým mytologiím. Ifigenie, vystavená na půdorysu známé antické tragédie, je tak obohacena o prvky z rumunského lidového bájesloví, o motiv smrti jako kosmické svatby a tvůrčí oběti, jež doprovází každé velké dílo. Ve hře Kameny a lidé, založené na dichotomii vědec – umělec Eliade krom jiného odkazuje k mytologii kamenů a labyrintu, ve hře Nekonečný sloup pak na díle sochaře Constantina Brâncuşie ilustruje starobylou, předkřesťanskou symboliku sloupu podepírajícího nebeskou klenbu, symboliku extatického vzestupu, letu a transcendence.
Bůh byl na tomto místě a já jsem to nevěděla
Leona Kalvodová se ve svých fotografiích vydala na místa, kde někteří pokládají Boží přítomnost za zajištěnou – do kostelů, klášterů a do svatého města Jeruzaléma. Ty však slouží jako kulisy, které zabydlují lidé svým soustředěním, tichem, napětím. Hry světel a prchavých lidských zjevování nachází ale i na řadě jiných míst; v neposlední řadě zachycuje portréty svých přátel, nejčastěji Ivana a Dáši Havlových. Jak píše ve své předmluvě Jindřich Štreit, největší mistrovství však musí prokázat při zachycení tváře. Důležité je vystihnout onu setinu sekundy, kdy se v obličeji objeví záře, vnitřní pokora, napětí, smutek, hnutí duše. V tu chvíli může fotografka cítit, že je s ní Bůh. Leona nám ve svých fotografiích umožňuje poznat obyčejně neobyčejný život.
