Páni z Hradce nebo-li také „páni zlaté růže“ patří k nejstarším a nejvýznamnějším českým a moravským panským rodům. Jejich historie se začala psát již na konci 12. století. Rukopis Pamětihodnosti panství Náchod sepsaný v roce 1842 dlouholetým panským důchodním Janem Müllerem (1773–1861), představuje mimořádné svědectví o životě na jednom z nejvýznamnějších východočeských panství přelomu 18. a 19. století. Autor, který působil ve službách náchodské vrchnosti více než půl století, zachytil hospodářský, správní i společenský život panství s přesností úředníka a vnímavostí pozorovatele své doby.
Müllerovy zápisky odhalují nejen chod vrchnostenské kanceláře, ale i atmosféru společenských proměn a kulturního rozkvětu. Nikita Chruščov na XX. Zjazde KSSZ definitívne pochoval stalinizmus. Životná úroveň pomaly rastie... Dediny ale straší kolektivizácia. Kultúrne prostredie sa postupne uvoľňuje a pripravuje pôdu na väčšie zmeny v nasledujúcom desaťročí.

Vo vzduchu už cítiť blížiacu sa zmenu. Sloboda nenápadne klope na dvere, je ju ale ešte skôr cítiť, než vidieť. Nádej už mala aj tvár aj meno: Michail Gorbačov.
