Magyar ornamentika
A Huszka családról kevés adat, illetve dokumentum maradt fent. Egyes források szerint a rajztanár, művészettörténész dédapja (szintén Huszka József) 1787-ben folyamodott lakossági jogért a félegyházi tanácshoz.
A Redemptus családból származó feleségére tekintettel, kérelmét még abban az esztendőben jóvá is hagyták. A csizmadia mester dédapa feleségével és gyermekeivel érkezett Félegyházára, feltehetően a Jászságból. (Erre vonatkozóan nincsenek adatok.) A dédapa mesterségét Vendel nevű fia folytatta, aki 1783-ban született. Tizennyolc éves korában felvették a csizmadia céhbe, és még abban az évben (1801) elvette a Kis Ágnes nevű hajadont. Házasságukból tizenkét gyermek született. A legidősebb, Vendel papnak tanult, később Halason lett plébános. József a félegyházi algimnázium elvégzése után a tanítói pályára lépett. A szabadságharc leverése után sokadmagával elbocsátották, és ügyvéd lett. Két fia volt: Ödön és Dezső. Tanulmányai befejezése után Ödön egy ideig jegyzőként dolgozott Félegyházán, később Szegedre költözött.
A magyar ornamentika nem mondák, hagyományok, ősi feljegyzések és nyelvészeti összevetések labirintusából keletkezett és igazság látszatával ható megállapítások összevetése, hanem ma is látható, megfogható, mérlegelhető kisebb-nagyobb műbecsű, régi és mai iparművészeti tárgyak formáinak beszéde. A formák nyelvét kísérlem megszólaltatni, hogy mondják el, hol, mikor, mily célból és alkalomból, vagy mily rendeltetéssel születtek.

The Essential Joseph Beuys

Nolde, Klee & der Blaue Reiter
The foundation stone for the exceptional collection of Gabriele and Anna Braglia was laid by an exhibition of German Expressionism in Venice. The collection will be made accessible to the public in Lugano starting in September. Fascinated by the vivid colours and great expressive power of the paintings, the Swiss couple acquired select paintings, watercolours and drawings, in particular those by Paul Klee, Emil Nolde and the Blauer Reiter artists. Hopper
Edward Hopper (1882-1967) is considered as one of the first important American painters in 20th century art. After decades of patient work, Hopper enjoyed a success and popularity that since the 1950s has continually grown. In canvas after canvas he painted the loneliness of urban people. Many of Hopper's pictures represent views of streets and roads, rooftops, and abandoned houses, depicted in a brilliant light that strangely belies the melancholy mood of the scenes. Hopper's paintings are marked by striking juxtapositions of color, and by the clear contours with which the figures are demarcated from their surroundings. His extremely precise focus on the theme of modern men and women in the natural and man-made environment sometimes lends his pictures a mood of eerie disquiet. On the other hand, Hopper's renderings of rocky landscapes in warm brown hues, or his depictions of the seacoast, exude an unusual tranquillity that reveals another, more optimistic side of his character.
Friedrich, C.D.
The solitude of man and the bleak beauty of nature are prominent themes in the work of Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), the great romantic painter whose importance and influence have often been underestimated. Now widely considered to be the most important German artist of his generation. Friedrich died in obscurity and wasn't fully appreciated until the early 20th century. An important precursor to the Expressionists, Friedrich once wrote that an artist must "close your bodily eye so that you may see your picture first with the spiritual eye. Then bring to the light of day that which you have seen in the darkness so that it may react upon others from the outside inwards."
Mies van der Rohe
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) was one of the founding fathers of modern architecture, and creator of the Barcelona Pavilion (1929), the Farnsworth House in Plano, Illinois (1945-1951) and the Seagram Building in New York (1954-1958). Famed for his motto "less is more," Mies sought a refined purity in architectural expression that was missing from the vocabulary of his Bauhaus peers. He aimed to build for those of modest income while also building economically and sustainably, both in technical and esthetic terms; the use of industrial materials such as steel and glass were the foundation of this approach. Though his stark forms and modern materials provoked some criticism, over the years many have tried - most unsuccessfully-to copy his original and elegant style. This book explores more than 20 of his projects between 1906 and 1967, from his early work around Berlin to his most important American buildings.
Basquiat

Warhol
Commerce into art. This title deals with a critical observer of American society. Andy Warhol (1928-1987) is recognized today as the most important exponent of the Pop Art movement. He overturned the traditional understanding of art and placed in its stead a concept that retracts the individuality of the artist. Warhol was a critical observer of American society, exposing his compatriots' consumerism in his paintings ("Campbell and Brillo" series), as well as their fascination for sensational journalism. In 1963 Warhol founded his Factory in New York, literally a manufactory of ideas and work, which influenced film in the 1960s, published the influential magazine "Interview" in the late 1970s, and also produced Warhol's own artwork: Warhol conceived the idea, and a worker in his factory carried it out. The work remained (consciously) unsigned - a fact which nevertheless did nothing to diminish Warhol's reputation. He once complained that rich New Yorkers would willingly hang his Electric Chain in their living rooms - as long as its colours co-ordinated with the wallpaper and draperies.
