Frans Hals
An illuminating study of the singularly gifted Dutch artist Frans Hals, a true revolutionary in the field of portraiture and one of the most sought-after painters of his generation
This beautifully illustrated book offers a fresh scholarly appraisal of Frans Hals, more than 30 years since the last large exhibition devoted to his work. Essays cover all the important aspects of Hals’s oeuvre, including his militia paintings, his spectacular family portraits and his depictions of laughter: he was one of very few artists throughout the history of Western painting who successfully managed to paint people smiling and laughing. The texts also provide an overview of the artist’s life, and examine his extraordinarily virtuoso technique, which involved painting extremely fast straight on to the canvas.
The authors set out to place Hals and his work firmly in the context of his time, employing new previously unpublished archival research and technical findings. For the first time, an overview is given of all the apprentices who worked for Hals. Other themes, such as the design for portrait prints or the humour seen in the works of Frans Hals, have never before been treated separately.

Urbanistický Atlas Bratislava 2022
Publikácia sa venuje prezentácii Urbanistickej štruktúry a členenia mesta, katastra Bratislavy. Tieto témy súvisia s návrhom nového územného plánu, ktorý by mal obsahovať hranice zastavaného a zastaviteľného územia mesta. Kataster Bratislavy má dnes zhruba tretinu zastavaného územia, tretinu tvoria zeleň, lesy a tretina plochy je nezastavaná. Jednotlivé mestské časti, aj menšie časti mesta majú rôznu štruktúru zástavby. Prvým krokom pri návrhu celku by mohlo byť definovanie Urbanistických lokalít, ktoré sú základnou zložkou urbanistického členenia mesta. Dnešné členenie na ZSJ- základné sídelné jednotky je zastaralé a neobsahuje novú zástavbu po roku 1990. Publikácia obsahuje popri analýze štruktúry zástavby aj alternatívu nového členenia Bratislavy.
Publikácia obsahuje do 80 schém mesta aj jednotlivých častí mesta, 12 fotozáberov z dronu, časť textu je v anglickom jazyku. Zobrazený je aj vznik nového obrazu mesta- aglomerácie a možný rozvoj štruktúry severozápadnej a severovýchodnej časti mesta Bratislava.

Publikáciu uvádza text Daniely Mrázkovej a dopĺňa ju zoznam vybraných výstav, publikácií a biografické údaje. Jan Saudek patrí spolu s Josefom Sudkom a Františkom Drtikolom k najznámejším českým fotografom. No sám aj k tým najprovokatívnejším. Je zbožňovaný aj zatracovaný, oslavovaný a opovrhovaný, uctievaný aj preklínaný. Jan Saudek dráždi. Jeho kontroverzné dielo pomáha pochopiť zložitosť súčasného sveta a človeka. Publikácia doc. Antona Szomolányiho, ArtD. s názvom "Kamera - beží 2 …" voľne nadväzuje na prvý diel publikácie s rovnakým názvom, ktorý vyšiel tlačou v roku 2016. Kým v predošlej knižke sa autor venuje najmä fyzikálnym vlastnostiam svetla a základným tvorivým postupom pri vzniku filmového obrazu, nová publikácia zdôrazňuje význam najnovších praktických poznatkov v digitálnej filmovej tvorbe. Čitateľ dostane odpoveď na nové otázky, ktoré prináša digitálna filmová prax. Monografia je zameraná najmä na praktické riešenia kameramanskej tvorby podľa najnovších trendov. Kniha je rozdelená do 33 kapitol, vychádza pritom z praktických potrieb kameramana - tvorcu a vysvetľuje podrobne rôzne tvorivé situácie a postupy. Ako možno riešiť smerovanie pohľadu respondenta pri filmovej výpovedi, či pravidlo pre nastavenie správnej výšky snímacej kamery. Szomolányi skvelo objasňuje významné postupy súčasnej digitálnej exponometrie, lebo len ony umožnia vznik plnohodnotného filmového digitálneho obrazu. Vysvetľuje proces prevodu scénického obrazu, teda predmetnej reality, do výtvarne expresívneho filmového tvaru. Transformačný proces, ktorý pritom prebieha dnes stále nie je definitívny, vyvíja sa, a pre každý typ profesionálnej kamery používa dokonca vlastný firemný formát spracovania surových (RAW) obrazových dát. Podstatou však je, že digitalizácia snímaného obrazu už konečne pripomína ten logaritmický prevod, ktorý my kameramani dávno poznáme z definícií tzv. fotochemických senzitometrických charakteristík klasického filmu. Pravda s istými novými špecifikami a technickými zvláštnosťami. Logaritmické 3D farebné charakteristiky tzv. 3D LUT-ky nahradili pôvodné filmové senzitometrické krivky. Autor textu tu bez zbytočnej matematiky a fyziky vysvetľuje podstatu tohto procesu a dáva praktické návody, ako všetky najnovšie poznatky reálne využiť. Kameraman a pedagóg Anton Szomolányi správne upozorňuje na to, že digitálna exponometria je dnes v neustálom vývoji. Vznikajú nové (HDR) postupy aj meracie pomôcky pre posúdenie správnej hodnoty expozície snímku. Preto odporúča mladým kameramanom stále platnú metódu objektívneho merania expozičného osvetlenia pomocou meracích prístrojov. Problematika súčasnej digitálnej filmovej tvorby je už natoľko rozsiahla, že vznik tejto monografie možno iba privítať. Pomôže objasniť veľký rozsah nových potrebných znalostí.

A fashion revolutionary, Yves Saint Laurent and his creations were resolutely modern. His ongoing exploration of shape and form incessantly pushed the boundaries of his creativity, and lead to his most groundbreaking and iconic designs. His works were influenced by the artistic trends of the time?from simple and geometric abstraction to constructivism and concrete art?whose many movements mirror the multifaceted talent of the designer. A bold, exacting gesture underpinned his art: his minimalist dresses were often monochromatic compositions seemingly sprung from a single line. A colorist, he imagined pure yet exuberant abstract designs by juxtaposing flat surfaces in vibrant hues. Transposing pictorial material into textile, he thus balanced color, form, surface, and line. An illusionist, he would juxtapose black and white to suggest movement in the garment through optical illusion. By using flat, simple lines, shape prevailed over color.

Between the twilight years of the Tokugawa shogunate (1603–1867) and the end of the Meiji Era (1868–1912) that followed it, photography offered a unique insight into the rapid transformation of Japan from an isolated, feudal society to a modern, industrialised state. In the four decades that followed the opening of the country in 1853, the camera evolved from an imported novelty to a familiar witness of Japanese daily life.
Operating from the Treaty Ports of Yokohama and elsewhere, early practitioners of photography plied an often precarious trade in images of Japan and laid the foundations of what would soon become a highly competitive industry with a global reach. Whether cherished as souvenirs of an exotic land of fond imagination or curated as visual documents of a fast-changing society, these images by foreign and Japanese photographers, often packaged in exquisitely produced albums, enjoyed a wide circulation abroad and played an important role in influencing perceptions of Japan in the West well into the early twentieth century.

Kolektivní monografie autorů z Filozofické fakulty UK pojednává o Wagnerově nechvalně proslulém spisu Židovství v hudbě a obecněji o sociálně-politických aspektech provozování Wagnerových oper. Jednotlivé kapitoly představují různé kontextualizace Wagnerova spisu, skladatelovy osoby i otázky spojené s prováděním a přijímáním jeho oper. Stranou nezůstává zasazení do kontextu dobové filosofie a německé romantiky, souvislost s dalšími Wagnerovými spisy, problematika uvádění Wagnerových oper ve státě Izrael nebo revize obecně přijímaných představ o karikaturách Židů ve vrcholném Wagnerově hudebním díle, v Prstenu Nibelungově. Každá z těchto kapitol se pokouší o problematizaci některého z významných aspektů kauzy „Wagner a Židé“, aniž by usilovala o jednoznačné řešení. Editoři a autoři si kladli za cíl především korekci některých zažitých stereotypů a přesnější vymezení problému.
Arnold Bartůněk
První souhrnná publikace o českém sochaři a restaurátoru Arnoldu Bartůňkovi (1955) představuje jeho formální a umělecký vývoj od 80. let minulého století po současnost, od drobnějších děl komorního charakteru vznikajících v ateliéru až po rozměrnější realizace ve veřejném prostoru. K těm posledním patří například mramorová socha nazvaná Slavěna, vytvořená k poctě stého výročí vzniku Československé republiky, jež byla odhalena v Litomyšli v roce 2018. Přehled jeho celoživotní tvorby doplňují reprodukce figurálních kreseb z posledního desetiletí. Vybrané střídmé texty odrážející autorovy myšlenky a postoje ozřejmují formální a ideová východiska jeho práce.
Celé Bartůňkovo dílo naplňuje především jeden ústřední nevyčerpatelný motiv – totiž ženská postava jako věčně inspirativní fenomén. Sochař se žádným krokem nikdy nezpronevěřil svému hlavnímu záměru: usilovat o dominanci krásy, která je výsledkem souladu ušlechtilého materiálu, inspirujícího motivu, stability sochy a naplnění uměleckých řešení a cílů.
