Christo and Jeanne-Claude. L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped
1961, three years after meeting Jeanne-Claude in Paris, Christo made a study of a mammoth project that would wrap one of the city's most emblematic monuments. 60 years, 25,000 square meters of recyclable fabric, and 3,000 meters of rope later, the artists' vision finally came true. Bohumil Južnič
Bohumil Južnič (1895–1963) byl předním československým designérem. Ačkoliv se celý život věnoval vojenskému povolání, jeho záliba v průmyslovém designu přerostla v další profesi. Významně ovlivnil rozvoj uměleckého průmyslu, obzvlášť ve třicátých letech, kdy poskytoval své návrhy kovových předmětů denní potřeby Krásné jizbě DP a Topičově salonu v Praze. Specializoval se především na design vybavení určeného ke stolování, kterému dodával elegantní, funkční tvar. Svůj návrhářský potenciál uplatnil i v ostatních průmyslových odvětvích. Od roku 1932 navrhoval textil, zejména koberce. Pro Topičův salon projektoval drobný nábytek a navrhl skleněný nápojový servis. S příchodem války začal Bohumil Južnič navrhovat první výrobky ze soustruženého a řezaného dřeva. Tomuto materiálu se věnoval celá čtyřicátá léta. Zájem o jeho dřevěné mísy, dózy a ostatní předměty, spojené zejména se stolováním, přetrvával i v padesátých letech. V té době rozšířil své pole působnosti o návrhy funkční i dekorativní keramiky, smaltovaného nádobí, hraček, šperků a bižuterie. Publikace přibližuje Južničovu tvorbu dokumentovanou návrhy z autorovy pozůstalosti i realizacemi nejen ze sbírek Uměleckoprůmyslového musea v Praze.

Podrobný katalog představuje výběr vzácných kabinetů ze sbírek Uměleckoprůmyslového musea v Praze a Národního památkového ústavu, ale i z oblastních a soukromých sbírek. Soubor reprezentuje tvorbu předních evropských výrobních center s ukázkami nejdůležitějších výzdobných technik, jako například piktoriální intarzie, marketerie, reliéfní řezby, florentská mozaika či dekorace miniaturní malbou a drobnými plastikami. Kabinety 16. a 17. století patří k nejzajímavějším realizacím v historii uměleckého řemesla. Už prvotním posláním jako schrána pro uschování drahocenných předmětů a svým výrazně uměleckým charakterem se kabinet vždy vymykal běžným kategoriím nábytkové tvorby. Jeho kořeny lze sledovat již ve vyspělých kulturách starověku, přední místo zaujímal v luxusním mobiliáři na panovnických dvorech evropského novověku, avšak svou vrcholnou roli sehrál v éře manýrismu a časného baroku, kdy se jako Kunstkammer en miniature stal svébytným uměleckým dílem, reprezentujícím složitý myšlenkový svět idejí novověké přírodní filosofie.

Kritika a autonomie českého umění (1859–1892)
Chápání umělecké tvorby jako autonomní činnosti s vlastními pravidly a také kritérii hodnocení úspěchu se dnes zdá být takřka přirozené, jeho nesamozřejmost si uvědomujeme snad nejčastěji při soudních procesech vedených proti autorům děl s kontroverzním obsahem. Bývaly ovšem doby, kdy ani svět umění nebyl v pohledu na autonomii své produkce jednotný – primát estetična při hodnocení se musel prosadit ve spletitých diskusích nad konkrétními díly. Těžiště těchto negociací autoři knihy hledají v období počátků parlamentarismu na našem území, kdy rostoucí sebevědomí umělecké sféry vyjadřovala nejen samotná produkce, ale například i budování reprezentativních veřejných prostorů (pražské Národní divadlo, Rudolfinum). Mezioborový výzkum, inspirovaný sociologickým a literárněhistorickým studiem autonomizace umění francouzského (P. Bourdieu, M. Einfalt), je zaměřen na kritický ohlas literární, výtvarné a hudební produkce, která v letech 1859 až 1892 vzbuzovala otázky související se závazky tvůrců ke společnosti. Současně sleduje proměny samotné kritiky, která rostoucí míru autonomie reflektovala a ujasňovala si při tom vlastní vztahy k publiku a tvůrcům. Kolektivní monografie představuje výsledky zkoumání dobových periodik a dalších pramenů včetně archivních, které umožňují zachytit soudobou kritickou praxi v celé její šíři. Výklad je doplněn obrazovou přílohou prezentující kromě diskutovaných výtvarných děl také dobově typické formy propagace umělecké produkce.
