Stephen Shore Survivors in Ukraine
A powerful and haunting visual record, Stephen Shore's portraits highlight the resilience and hope of Ukraine's Holocaust survivors. Stephen Shore, one of the most influential photographers living today, traveled to the Ukraine in 2012 and again in 2013, just prior to the current political upheaval, to visit 35 survivors, most of whom are women. In the photographs of the survivors and their homes, Shore visually explores their collective experience as seen through quotidian details, and leaves open the question as to how the history of the Holocaust informs the viewer's reception of the portraits. The book's 200 digital color photographs are organized to create intimate portraits of their individual and collective experiences whilst maintaining the unsentimental formal order of his photography. A könyvhöz az egész Kárpát-medencéből gyűjtöttük az anyagot, gyakran átlépve a jelenlegi országhatárainkat, hogy egy-egy néprajzi tájegységet a lehető legteljesebben mutassunk be. A sok évszázados gyökerű népművészet ugyanis nem volt tekintettel a kényszerű történelmi változásokra: nem követte a politikai-földrajzi határokat. Hat ország több száz településén jártunk. Évekig voltunk úton, bekopogtunk házakhoz, bejártuk a skanzeneket, bekéredzkedtünk udvarokba, megpihentünk csűrökben, önfeledten doboltuk a ritmust a táncházakban és szégyenlősen táncra perdültünk magunk is, ha éppen nem figyelt senki ránk egy-egy esti mulatságon. Nemcsak a tárgyi emlékek hihetetlenül gazdag világával ismerkedtünk: néztük az arcokat, a mozdulatokat, lejegyeztük a jellemző ételek receptjeit. Közben egyre telhetetlenebbek lettünk. Hiába hordtuk haza a képeket szőttesekről, faragásokról, kerámiákról, ahogy haladtunk előre az időben újra meg újra azt gondoltuk: nincs elég megörökített csipke, mézeskalács vagy kályhacsempe a birtokunkban. Peter Himič vo svojej práci zachytáva najvýznamnejšie udalosti divadelného života Prešova od jeho začiatkov, cez pestré a plodné medzivojnové obdobie až po vznik prvého profesionálneho divadla roku 1950. Dokladá, že Prešov mal vo svojich divadelných dejinách niekoľko významných a výnimočných projektov, ktoré presahovali rámec regiónu a zostávajú zapísané aj v dejinách slovenského neprofesionálneho divadla. Vo svojej práci sa opiera o bohatý informačný materiál rozličnej proveniencie (historické dokumenty, dobová publicistika, memoárová literatúra, administratívne zápisy a pod.), pričom sa mu darí vytvoriť plastický, odborne erudovaný obraz o metamorfózach divadelného života spomínaného mesta predovšetkým v prvej polovici 20. storočia. Pozoruhodné na koncepcii monografie je autorovo úsilie prepojiť regionálnu divadelnú kultúru na pohyb slovenského divadelného umenia v rozličných historických periódach. Práca má svoj význam pre vlastný región Šariša, no zároveň je prínosná aj v nadregionálnych súvislostiach, v spoznávaní celého komplexu národnej divadelnej kultúry. Mnozí z těch, kteří fotografují, se ale dříve nebo později zastaví a začnou přemýšlet o tom, proč vlastně fotografují a co pro ně fotografie znamená. Tato kniha je jedním takovým zastavením a hledáním cesty. Autor v ní nabízí minimalismus jako přístup, ke kterému sám dospěl. V jeho pojetí se minimalismus netýká pouze otázek kompozice, ale jde dále: od výběru objektů fotografování až po přístup k technickému a fotografickému vybavení. Základem všeho je odpověď na otázky: Jaký jsem vlastně fotograf? A jakým fotografem bych chtěl být? Zajímavé jsou ty části knihy, které se zabývají úvahami o estetice nebo historickém vývoji názorů na fotografii a rolí, kterou zde sehráli někteří významní fotografové. Jedná se o část dějin fotografie, o které by měl něco vědět každý fotograf. Knihu doplňuje řada fotografií, které dokreslují autorovy názory, a mnohé z nich mohou být pobídkou pro ty, kteří by k minimalistickému přístupu chtěli najít cestu.
