A 100-year history of the origins and evolution of the trademark
By the late 19th century, trademarks began to replace traditional emblems, like coats of arms, as identifying symbols for companies. At first, logos tended to be figurative, but over time they morphed into the abstract marks that we see everywhere today. Yet many iconic brands—like Rolex, BMW, Louis Vuitton, and the New York Yankees—still use logos designed 100 years ago.
Bringing together two previous volumes—Logo Beginnings and Logo Modernism—into one compendium, design expert Jens Müller (dubbed “the logo detective” by Wired magazine) has trawled historical trademark archives and design publications to unearth 1000s of logos from as far back as 1870, including many forgotten designs and early versions of today’s brand identifiers.

Nakolik si musíme viděné domýšlet a nakolik si můžeme být jisti tím, co vidíme, a tím, co víme? Obrazová část knihy Tunelové vidění sestává z fotografií, fotogramů a daguerrotypií Ondřeje Přibyla a je rozdělená do tří kapitol (Mechanický divák, Tunelové vidění a Modely a konstanty) doplněných citacemi a autorovými komentáři. Autory textové části jsou Petr Vaňous a Pavel Dvořák, kteří se též podíleli na koncepci celé publikace. Součástí knihy je rozhovor Karla Halouna s Ondřejem Přibylem a místo doslovu text Kamila Nábělka. Název publikace odkazuje nejen k diagnóze, kdy postižený z různých příčin přichází o periferní vidění a je schopen se soustředit pouze na parciální jevy, ale především je metaforou, pomocí níž se autor snaží pojmenovat skutečnost, že naše vnímání je vždy omezeno na pouhý výsek v prostoru a čase, na skutečnost, že není možné nahlédnout svět cele a naráz. A právě fotografii s jejím automatickým zrodem, nevyhnutelnou kauzalitou a časovostí považuje Přibyl za mimořádně vhodný nástroj pro ilustraci těchto úvah. Kniha vychází česko-anglicky. ENGLISH VERSION: The central theme of the publication is seeing and perceiving the world and the limits that restrict our perception. How much do we need to know what we see in order to truly see it? How much do we need to imagine what we see, and how certain can we be of what we see and what we know? The visual part of the book Tunnel Vision consists of photographs, photograms, and daguerreotypes by Ondřej Přibyl and is divided into three chapters (Mechanical Viewer, Tunnel Vision, and Models and Constants), supplemented by quotations and the author's comments. The authors of the text section are Petr Vaňous and Pavel Dvořák, who also contributed to the concept of the entire publication. The book includes an interview with Ondřej Přibyl by Karel Haloun, and instead of an afterword, there is a text by Kamil Nábělek. The title of the publication refers not only to the diagnosis, when the affected person loses peripheral vision for various reasons and is only able to focus on partial phenomena, but above all it is a metaphor through which the author attempts to name the fact that our perception is always limited to a mere slice of space and time, to the fact that it is not possible to see the world as a whole and all at once. And it is precisely photography, with its automatic birth, inevitable causality, and temporality, that Přibyl considers an extremely suitable tool for illustrating these reflections.

Zenei életünk három jelentős jubileumot is számontart 2025-ben: 60 éve írta meg az első magyar nyelvű beatdalokat a Szörényi Levente–Bródy János szerzőpáros, 120 éve kezdett el népzenét gyűjteni Bartók Béla és Kodály Zoltán, valamint 150 évvel ezelőtt született a közönség előtt elsősorban az operettjeiről ismert, ám a szerzői jog területén is maradandót alkotó Huszka Jenő.

In Cello, Kate Kennedy weaves together the lives of four remarkable cellists who suffered various forms of persecution, injury and misfortune. The Hungarian Jewish cellist and composer Pál Hermann managed to keep one step ahead of the Gestapo for much of the Second World War but was eventually captured and murdered. Lise Cristiani, the first female professional cello soloist, undertook an epic - and ultimately fatal - concert tour of Siberia in the 1850s, taking with her one of the world's greatest Stradivari cellos. Anita Lasker-Wallfisch was incarcerated in both Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen camps, only surviving because she was the cellist in the Auschwitz-Birkenau women's orchestra. Amedeo Baldovino of the Trieste Piano Trio was forced to jump from a burning ship with his 'Mara' Stradivari, losing the cello, and nearly losing his own life when the boat was shipwrecked near Buenos Aires.
Counterpointing the themes raised by these extraordinary stories are a sequence of interludes that draw together the author's reflections on the nature and history of the cello, and her many interviews and encounters with contemporary cellists. Kate Kennedy's own relationship with the cello is a complicated one. As a teenager, she suffered an injury to her arm that imposed severe limitations on her career as a performer on the instrument that was her first love. She realised that, in order to start to understand what the cello meant to her, she needed to find out what the cello - and, crucially, the absence of the cello - had meant to some other cellists, past and present.
Kate Kennedy has written an eloquent and multitextured homage to this warmest of stringed instruments - part quest narrative, part detective story, part philosophical meditation.

Assemble
