Jeanne Lanvin - Fashion pioneer
Jeanne Lanvin was ahead of her time. The French fashion visionary and imaginative businesswoman from a poor background not only created the first designer fashion line for children - this was colourful and full of lightness, at a time when children were still dressed like adults - the first tailored men's collection and the first unisex eau de toilette, she also founded the longest-running fashion company in the world. This at times employed over 1000 people and included women's, children's and men's fashion, accessories, fragrances, furnishing textiles and decorative objects, and even its own paint factory.
The self-taught Lanvin started as a hat maker with her own boutique and managed to become one of the greatest fashion designers of the 20th century with creative energy and inventiveness. She created art deco costumes for theatre and film productions, developed the legendary perfume Arpege and a special Lanvin blue, based on the shade Fra Angelico blue. Brett Charles Seiler lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa, where he also graduated from the Ruth Prowse School of Art in 2015. Seiler's work has elements of painting, installation, and object art, with a strong emphasis on the use of text and language. Sometimes poetic, nostalgic, or romantic, it is an integral part of his art or stands on its own as a piece as well.
In his paintings, the space is indeterminate, the figures are not located and sketchily fleeting, the writing elements seem spontaneous like statements from street art. The colour scheme moves in a narrow spectrum between black, grey, white and brown tones, often using wood. His themes are sexual interaction, oppression, homosexuality, gender, men.
Originally from Zimbabwe, a state where human rights violations are commonplace, his work also makes a mark in the struggle for equal sexual orientation in education, media, and institutions. Rozsáhlá monografie Mezičas v česko – anglické mutaci představuje laické i odborné veřejností systematicky a zevrubně zpracovaný umělecký odkaz Adély Matasové, jež v roce 2021 získala Cenu Ministerstva kultury za přínos v oblasti výtvarného umění, především za celoživotní uměleckou a pedagogickou činnost.
Publikace je strukturována do několika textových i obrazových částí. Kniha je členěna do čtyř zásadních kapitol, kterým předchází vizuální úvod prezentující dosud nepublikované, ve své době naprosto progresivní a inovátorské dílo. Jedná se o kreslený scénář a dokumentární fotografie k scénickému představení – Pohybová akce k hudbě E. Varése, které se uskutečnilo v divadle v Českých Budějovicích v roce 1974. Na toto překvapivé obrazové antré navazuje rozhovor hlavní editorky Pavlíny Morganové s Adélou Matasovou o žití ve složité době, o mezilidských vztazích, práci a umění. Rozhovor je graficky „podbarven“ dobovými osobními fotografickými záběry. Pak už následují stěžejní kunsthistorické a badatelské texty ve čtyřem oddělených kapitolách, které jsou prokládány reprodukcemi děl Matasové, pohledy do jejích výstav, realizací a projektů.
První kapitola, jejíž autorkou je výše zmiňována editorka a kunsthistorička Pavlína Morganová, nese název „Osobní výzkum světa. Tvorba před rokem 1989.“ P. Morganová zde sleduje tvorbu Matasové od prvotního formování umělkyně na studiích až po další umělecký vývoj v průběhu následujících 70. a 80. let.
Na tuto kapitolu úzce navazuje další textový vstup významné kurátorky a kunsthistoričky Martiny Pachmanové. Její badatelský příspěvek “Překonávat hranice těla a prostoru. Tvorba po roce 1990“ mapuje a analyzuje posun tvorby Matasové od Sametové revoluce až po její nejsoučasnější práce.
Následný text kurátorky GASK, Veroniky Marešové, „Cesta vody. Dešťové stěny a Site – Specific východiska“ cílí na exteriérové projekty, instalace a intervence ve veřejném prostoru či v krajině se zvláštním důrazem na nejaktuálnější instalaci Dešťovou stěnu IV v jezuitských zahradách Galerie Středočeského kraje – GASK v Kutné Hoře.
Poslední kapitola „Metasystémy“ kurátora Michala Kolečka je věnována retrospektivní výstavě se stejnojmenným názvem, jež barvitě a mnohovrstevnatě demonstrovala širokospektrální záběr autorky napříč jejím celoživotním dílem. Výstava Metasystémy (uskutečněná 20.3.-5.6. 2022 v GASK, KH) také aktivizovala myšlenku zrealizovat dosud nezpracovanou a nevydanou monografii Adély Matasové zabývající se hlouběji jejím uměním.
Závěr knihy krom životopisné chronologie a záznamu účasti na samostatných skupinových výstavách, sympoziích či stážích A. Matasové, obsahuje především sumární soupis děl s obrazovým doprovodem, jenž je velmi cenným encyklopedickým materiálem pro další badatelský výzkum na poli výtvarného umění.
Hledání světla
Zdeňka Šestáka, narozeného v Citolibech roku 1925, zná hudební svět zejména jako objevitele tzv. citolibské skladatelské školy. Šesták je však také autorem četných komorních, sborových, koncertantních a symfonických děl. Jako skladatel bezprostředně navazuje na hudební avantgardu první poloviny minulého století a je typem neoklasika, vědomě čerpajícího z tradic evropské hudby posledních pěti set let.
Monografie líčí příběh Šestákova života i jeho úsilí o rozeznění citolibských objevů, její páteří je ovšem sama Šestákova hudba. Autor ve svých interpretacích nesleduje jen vývoj kompozičních postupů. Na základě svého nejhlubšího přesvědčení, že hudba je především jazyk, se snaží rozkrýt jak její sdělení a poselství, tak motivace a impulzy, z nichž se hudební dílo zrodilo. Proto se v knize odvíjí příběh života a příběh hudby jako dvě paralely, které se vzájemně zrcadlí: symfonikem se Šesták stává, po dlouhých letech zrání, v rozhořčení nad invazí roku 1968; velké sborové cykly skladatel komponuje po zkušenosti s pěveckým sborem, který založil v Citolibech ze vzdoru vůči normalizační letargii; téma času a konečnosti se v jeho tvorbě objevuje s bilancováním středních let; antickou inspiraci v jeho díle probudil už Jan Patočka za univerzitních studií.
