While Cerda’s style is strongly eclectic, she believes that the separation of these two disciplines into specialised activities is a limitation. Newton, Riviera
Helmut Newton was in his sixties and already a well-established photographer when he and his wife moved to the French Riviera. At an age when many people would consider retirement, Newton instead plunged headfirst into one of the most prolific and liberating stages of his career.

Having grown up in London's East End, Alexander McQueen left school at 15 to become a tailor's apprentice on Mayfair's Savile Row. At 22, he joined the prestigious MA course at Central Saint Martins and, after presenting his 1992 graduate collection (bought on the spot by influential fashion stylist Isabella Blow), went on to change the course of fashion.
McQueen was defiant in his opinions on creativity ('Give me time and I'll give you a revolution'), women ('I design clothes because I don't want women to look all innocent and naive ... I want people to be afraid of the women I dress') and craft ('You've got to know the rules to break them. That's what I'm here for, to demolish the rules but to keep the tradition'). He drew much of his inspiration from the natural world ('I have always loved the mechanics of nature and to a greater or lesser extent my work is always informed by that') and consistently challenged perceptions of beauty ('People find my things sometimes aggressive. But I don't see it as aggressive. I see it as romantic, dealing with a dark side of personality').

"Fashion is balance, with a dash of theatre," was Nino Cerruti's favourite bon mot. This monograph, the most substantial on him to date, is an entertaining and gorgeously illustrated homage to the great Italian fashion designer, whose deconstructed jackets and supple fabrics revolutionised menswear in the 1960s. He took over the family business, which his father established in 1881, at the age of 20 and immediately began to make his mark.
In 1965 he opened a boutique in Paris where he launched women's fashion, being the first designer to focus on pants (this at a time when many restaurants in Paris denied women entry if they were wearing pants). Between 2015 and 2020, photographer Brice Portolano travelled from the islands of Alaska to the Patagonian steppe and from the forests of Lapland to the highlands of Iran to capture the daily lives of 10 extraordinary people who made profound changes in their lives in order to live closer to nature. The Watch Book
Volume II of The Watch Book follows on the successful and comprehensive earlier volume with a magnificently illustrated book about the additional functions and refinements of wristwatches. For centuries, so-called "complications" - any feature of a mechanical timepiece beyond the display of hours, minutes and seconds - have embodied the crowning glory of fine mechanical watchmaking. Among the earliest of these are alarm clocks and calendar movements. Moon phase displays have also been known for several centuries. Striking movements can be considered among the most complex and technically elaborate additional functions, while finishing techniques such as skeletonising, which is mainly done by hand, also characterise the high art of watchmaking. Príčiny rozdielnej recepcie Giuseppe Verdiho a Richarda Wagnera na Slovensku – veľkej a trvalej obľúbenosti svetovo najhrávanejšieho talianskeho operného skladateľa Verdiho i „neobľúbenosti“ nemeckého velikána Wagnera.
Skladateľ Giuseppe Verdi bol celoživotnou láskou teatrológa Ladislava Čavojského (1932 – 2014), ale úctu mal aj k tvorbe Richarda Wagnera. Z jeho vzťahu k týmto dvom velikánom sa zrodila kniha o ich tak odlišnom opuse, a zároveň aj kniha o ich operách na slovenských javiskách. Autor v nej porovnáva život i dielo talianskeho a nemeckého skladateľa a vychádzajúc z cudzích i vlastných kritík inscenácií ich diel načrtáva obraz vývoja operného umenia na Slovensku v uplynulom storočí. Ladislav Čavojský vždy vedel zaujať neopakovateľným jazykom, humorom aj schopnosťou získať si čitateľa svojím nadšením pre scénické umenie. Tieto vlastnosti charakterizujú aj jeho poslednú knihu, ktorú však už nestihol dokončiť.
Jeho zámer naplnil a chýbajúce časti doplnil operný kritik Vladimír Blaho, nedokončený rukopis Ladislava Čavojského na vydanie pripravila dcéra Ladislava Čavojského, Katarína Ducárová.

The Unseen Saul Leiter
The first sightings of newly discovered work from Saul Leiter's abundant archive of colour slides.
Now widely acclaimed as one of the world's greatest photographers, Saul Leiter (1923-2013) remained relatively unsung until he was rediscovered by curators and critics in his early 80s, and his work has been drastically re-evaluated over the last two decades. Leiter's images evoked the flow and rhythm of life on the mid-century streets of New York in luminous colour at a time when his contemporaries were shooting in black and white. His complex and impressionistic photographs are as much about evoking an atmosphere as nailing the decisive moment.
Saul Leiter was born in Pittsburgh and moved to New York City in 1946. He pioneered a painterly approach to colour photography starting in the late 1940s and produced covers for fashion magazines such as Esquire and Harper's Bazaar before largely withdrawing from public attention in the 1980s. The publication in 2006 of his first monograph, Early Color, inspired an avid 'rediscovery' of Leiter's work by contemporary audiences.
His studio in New York's East Village, where he lived from 1952 until his death in 2013, is now the home of the Saul Leiter Foundation. The Foundation has begun a full-scale survey and organization of his more than 80,000 works, with the aim of compiling the 'complete' archive. This volume contains works discovered through this process, specifically colour slides, never before published or seen by the public. Meticulously curated by Margit Erb and Michael Parillo of the Saul Leiter Foundation and supported by texts that explain how Leiter built the slide archive and how it is now being explored, catalogued and restored, this new monograph will be a must-have for photography fans worldwide.
