Long Take
A multifaceted portrait of the great Japanese director For years, Akira Kurosawa resisted writing about himself. “It would turn out to be nothing but talk about movies,” he said. “In other words, take myself, subtract movies, and the result is zero.” The memoir he finally started serializing in 1978, Something like an Autobiography, ended with Rashomon, the film that launched him on the world’s stage in 1950. Bedřich Dlouhý
Bedřich Dlouhý (1932) je výjimečnou osobností českého umění 20. a 21. století. It would be difficult to overestimate the importance, originality, and success of current Polish female directors, whose bold, vivid features have taken the film industry by storm. Film’s Feisty Femmes spotlights nine of the most productive, internationally acclaimed women in a profession traditionally dominated by men but characterized in 21st-century Poland by receptivity to creative talent regardless of gender. With the transition to a market economy, institutional innovations appreciably transformed the country’s filmmaking—a transformation of which audiences are the primary beneficiaries. The volume’s seven chapters combine textual analysis with assessment of camerawork, situating each director’s major works in a cultural context that includes significant developments in Poland as well as international trends in cinema and gender politics. A major issue addressed throughout entails the directors’ relationship to feminism in narratives that are unapologetically gynocentric.

From Edouard Manet’s portrait of naturalist writer Émile Zola sitting among his Japanese art finds to Van Gogh’s meticulous copies of the Hiroshige prints he devotedly collected, 19th-century pioneers of European modernism made no secret of their love of Japanese art. As art, mass market, and pop culture merged and collided in true pop art style, cinema swirled with psychedelic energy. Zborník príspevkov z konferencie Divadlo a tridsať rokov samostatnej Slovenskej republiky – Ako sme sa hľadali, ktorá sa konala 15. a 16. novembra 2023 v Divadelnom ústave.
Autorom úvodu nazvanom Nejubilejné poznámky je historik Ivan Kamenec. Okrem iného v ňom píše: „Možno, že je to paradox, no zatiaľ viac informácií o okolnostiach a súvislostiach vzniku dnešnej Slovenskej republiky prináša nie odborná historická spisba, ale memoárová literatúra, individuálne spomienky (hoci nie vždy vierohodné) aktívnych alebo iba pasívnych súčasníkov daných udalostí. Dôležitým, hoci historikmi dosť zanedbávaným alebo podceneným prameňom sú aj umelecké diela spisovateľov, filmárov, divadelníkov. Pravdaže, v takýchto prípadoch treba rešpektovať prípustnú mieru umeleckej licencie a tolerancie, ktorá nám historikom niekedy chýba. Nemožno totiž požadovať od umeleckého diela, aby opakovalo či nahrádzalo odbornú historickú publikáciu ani učebnicu dejepisu. Je to úplne iný literárny žáner so svojím špecifickým, no mimoriadne dôležitým poslaním, ktorý viditeľne prevyšuje vplyv odbornej historiografie na širšiu verejnosť.“
Teatrológovia a teatrologičky, kultúrne manažérky a riaditeľky inštitúcií vo svojich príspevkoch poukazujú na realitu vzťahu divadiel a zriaďovateľov.
