Designing Peace
Designing Peace asks, how might we collectively put our creative forces together to envision a future we want to live in and take action to create it now? This book is an intersectional snapshot of the actions-culturally diverse and wide-ranging in scale-that are currently in play around the world. Offering perspectives on peace through essays, interviews, critical maps, project profiles, data visualizations, and art, this book conveys the momentum that design can gain in effecting a peace-filled future. From activists, scholars, and architects to policymakers, graphic, game, and landcape designers, Desiging Peace flips the conversation: peace is not simply a passive state signifying the absence of war, it is a dynamic concept that requires effort, expertise, and multi-dimensional solutions to address its complexity. Tom of Finland
A Tom of Finland sketchbook, with preparatory drawings that reveal his painstaking craftsmanship
Positioned at something of an angle to art history, Tom of Finland (1920-91) nonetheless counts among the popular artists of the latter 20th century. Through his iconic images, he almost singlehandedly changed the way gay men were perceived by society, and, more importantly, how gay men perceived themselves. The massive oeuvre that he produced over the course of a career spanning nearly six decades is devoted almost entirely to this one topic: men, their bodies and their eroticism. This extraordinary consistency in subject matter was matched by a lifelong passion for the discipline of drawing. And Tom most likely drew every day of his life.
Tom's world was populated by cowboys, mechanics, cops, punks and thugs--all indulging their desires with great camaraderie and without guilt or prejudice. This book assembles a cross section of these characters as devised by the artist in rough sketches or more carefully executed studies. These mostly served as preliminary drawings for the highly finished works, many of which were intended for publication.
Designed as an imagined Tom of Finland sketchbook, this book lets the viewer share in his exuberant joie de vivre.

Růžičkové (1963 – 2021) Sacro bosco (Posvátný háj) umožňuje nahlédnout krásy italské krajiny i architektury, zahrad a parků obklopujících charakteristické jižní vily způsobem, jenž postihuje především vnitřní ráz těchto archaických zákoutí a scenérií. Cyklus Sacro bosco vznikal s použitím klasické analogové fotografie, která neprošla digitální úpravou mimo jiné kvůli tomu, aby nebylo setřeno kouzlo fascinujícího okamžiku. Autorka přetavuje vizuální vjemy do básnivě utvářených výtvarných metafor. Richard Hambleton
Richard Hambleton (1954 2017) was a Canadian artist known for his pioneering street art. He was a surviving member of a group that emerged from the New York City art scene during the booming art market of the 1980s, which also included his close friends Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. As a conceptual artist, Hambleton s early work instal-lations titled Image Mass Murder from 1976 1979 were secretly placed onto streets in over 15 cities, depicting chalk-body outlines and blood-splattered crime scenes of what appeared to be victims. This theme of a prevailing violence, fear, and morbid curiosity elicited surprise and anxiety from its unsuspecting viewers. In the early 1980s, Hambleton created his most iconic Shadow Man works artfully splattered ominous shadowy figures on unexpected street corners, walls, and alleys that startled viewers into a visceral awareness that the city was still a dangerous place. This book features over 200 images including his early Shadow Man canvas paintings, as well as photographs of his in situ street work, a selection of his Marlboro rodeo horse silhouettes, and his Beautiful Paintings series of landscapes and seascapes, alongside other works on paper; behind-the-scenes studio shots; personal, unseen photographs of the artist; and inspirational imagery. Hambleton was renowned for influencing artists such as Banksy, Blek le Rat, and Shepard Fairey. This arresting, one-of-a-kind book will appeal to those interested in visual arts, street art, graffiti, and art history.

Japan's engagement with Western clothing, culture, and art in the mid-nineteenth century transformed the traditional kimono and began a cross-cultural sartorial dialogue that continues to this day. This publication explores the kimono's fascinating modern history and its notable influence on Western fashion. Initially signaling the wearer's social position, marital status, age, and wealth, older kimono designs gave way to the demands of modernized and
democratized twentieth-century lifestyles as well as the preferences of the emancipated "new woman." Conversely, inspiration from the kimono's silhouette liberated Western designers such as Paul Poiret and Madeline Vionnet from traditional European tailoring. Juxtaposing never-before-published Japanese textiles from the John C. Weber Collection with Western couture, this book places the kimono on the stage of global fashion history.
