Beatrix Farrand, the only female founder of the American Society of Landscape Architects, is one of the most important landscape architects of the early twentieth century. Today the scope of her work and her influence on the profession are widely acknowledged, and her gardens are being studied, restored, and opened to the public. A long-awaited updated edition of the 2009 definitive monograph, Beatrix Farrand- Garden Artist, Landscape Architect chronicles the life and work of one of the most important figures in American landscape architecture. Born into a prominent New York family (she was Edith Wharton's niece), Farrand designed lavish gardens for the leaders of society, including the Harknesses, the Rockefellers, and the Blisses. Ultimately, her portfolio extended to college and university campuses, including Princeton, Yale, and the University of Chicago, and public gardens, the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and the Rose Garden at the New York Botanical Garden among them. Her best-known design is the landscape at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D.C., originally a private residence with extensive grounds and now a research center for Harvard University surrounded by a naturalistic park restored and maintained by the National Park Service. Deeply influenced by the English garden designer Gertrude Jekyll, Farrand was known for broad expanses of lawn with deep swaths of borders planted in a subtle palette of foliage and flowers. Publikace Jevištní technologie v 21. století se primárně věnuje moderní strojní jevištní technologii, kterou však vnímá v kontextu jejího historického vývoje i prostředí divadelní budovy. Název knihy, evokující sice zaměření na nejnovější trendy oboru, tak záměrně vystihuje i tento druhý rozměr jejího obsahu, zabývající se existencí současné jevištní technologie v širších souvislostech. První polovina je zaměřena na zasazení jevištní technologie do divadelního prostoru, kodifikaci jejího názvosloví a shrnutí její historie zejména ve vazbě k mašinérii barokního divadla, věnuje se však také divadelní budově jako celku a pojmenování i funkci prostor, které se v ní nacházejí. Součástí této části práce je představení referenčních projektů divadelních budov, které jednak rámcově zastupují jejich současnou typologii a jejichž jevištní technologie byly postaveny či rekonstruovány v 21. století. Uvedené příklady poskytují příležitost následně zobecnit problematiku stavby a rekonstrukce divadelní budovy a jevištní technologie. Ve své druhé části publikace nabízí podrobný technický rozbor jednotlivých existujících zařízení strojní jevištní technologie, systémů jejich pohonu a způsobů jejich ovládání. Na třídění informací o jevištní technologii je přitom s ambicí o zprostředkování přehlednější cesty jejího poznání nahlíženo novým způsobem, oddělujícím samotné systémy pohonu od podstaty funkce jednotlivých zařízení. Stranou nezůstává ani oblast provozu, obsluhy a údržby jevištní technologie. Závěr je věnován zamýšlení nad využitím a budoucností jevištní technologie. Propojením triadického celku TEXTu – TEXTilu – TEXTury se TEXTile Manifestoes snaží reflektovat, kreativně přetvářet, kriticky promýšlet, dekonstruovat a dekolonializovat žánrovou ambivalenci manifestu jakožto převážně mužské formy modernity, která autoritářsky usiluje o zcela odlišnou budoucnost. Antologie vychází ze strukturálního a metaforického sepjetí textu a textilu, aby se pokusila jiným způsobem promyslet politické a etické otázky současného světa, který se tak zoufale snaží hledat jistoty a zřetelný program moderního manifestu, a to aniž by se uchýlil k těm nejhorším formám totality. Původní projekt „TEXTile Manifestoes“ vznikl z mezioborové spolupráce několika ateliérů na Vysoké škole uměleckoprůmyslové v Praze. Studentky a studenti ateliérů designu oděvu a obuvi, grafického designu a vizuální komunikace, tvorby písma a typografie a fotografie II byli osloveni, aby společně propletli textil a diskurz jakožto vlastní manifesty kombinující módní kolekce a palčivé otázky současného světa, jako je všudypřítomný dohled a kontrola, umělá inteligence, nebo virtuální realita, případně otázky osobnější týkající se identity, paměti a (duševního) zdraví. Studentské práce následně doplnily a (re)kontextualizovaly zahraniční a tuzemské příspěvky, jejichž rozsah sahá od Andských textilních studií, neuropsychoanalýzy, literární a umělecké kritiky, až po estetiku a muzikologii. This anthology departs from the genre-related ambivalence of the manifesto as a modern male form of authoritatively demanding radically different futures by using the manifesto to connect with the triadic complex of TEXT – TEXTile – TEXTure in order to reflect, refashion and redefine it in creative, critical, deconstructive and decolonial ways. Departing from the structural and metaphorical contiguity of texts and textiles, TEXTile Manifestoes aims to rethink the political and ethical in a world desperately seeking the certainties and clear programmes of modern manifestoes without returning to the worst forms of historical totality. The original project “TEXTile Manifestoes” emerged out of a cross-disciplinary collaboration between several studios at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Students from the Studios of Fashion and Footwear Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communication and Type Design as well as Photography II worked together to weave textiles and discourses alike to design their manifestoes by combining fashion collections with burning contemporary issues such as mass surveillance, artifical intelligence or virtual reality but also to more private struggles of identity, memory and (mental) health. The students’ works were later complemented by and (re)contextualised with international contributions ranging from ancient Andean textile studies to neuropsychoanalysis or from literary and art criticism to aesthetics and musicology. Antonín Heythum (1901-1954) byl výjimečnou a výraznou osobností výtvarné kultury v meziválečném Československu a později v USA. Významně zasáhl do několika oborů (scénografie, architektura, nábytek, průmyslový design, pracoval jako vysokoškolský pedagog), avšak jeho tvorba byla dosud zpracována zlomkovitě, bez širšího kontextu, izolovaně a s omezením pouze na některé obory. Přípravě knihy předcházelo pečlivé zmapování jeho rozsáhlého mezioborového díla v archívech na českém i americkém území s cílem popsat a zhodnotit jeho přínos pro všechny zmíněné oblasti. Pečlivě je popsána rovněž jeho spolupráce s významnými umělci (Man Ray, Erwin Piscator, Max Ernst, Marcel Duchamp, Frederic Kann atd.) a jeho výstavní aktivity probíhající ve více než šedesáti místech Evropy a USA. Knižní monografie vychází v česko-anglické jazykové mutaci. Publikace obsahuje úplný soupis inscenací Antonína Heythuma, rejstřík a resumé. Text doprovází bohatý obrazový materiál z rodinné pozůstalosti, českých a amerických sbírek (plány, kresby, scénické a kostýmní návrhy, fotografie, rukopisy) a poznámkový aparát.

Budovy bankovních domů a spořitelen zastupují v téměř každém českém městě architektonickou vrstvu, která dnes zpřítomňuje chaotické a hořko-sladkými emocemi prodchnuté období transformace společnosti po pádu totalitního režimu a budování nového demokratického státu v režii Václava Havla a Václava Klause. Největší z nich, které vznikly rozpadem Státní banky československé, ovšem svými většinovými podíly zůstaly strategicky ve vlastnictví státu, sehrály klíčovou roli v procesu privatizace a staly se tak symbolickými monumenty etapy později označované jako tzv. bankovní socialismus. Kniha přináší příběhy 23 vybraných bankovních domů, které odrážejí specifický regionální kolorit a osobní přístup jejich architektů. Poodhaluje, jaké významy utvářejí jejich křehkou postmoderní identitu, která byla obecně spojována s příslibem nového životního stylu charakteristického pro západní společnost formující se od konce sedmdesátých let 20. století. Jednotlivé eseje o bankovních domech vznikaly převážně na bázi osobních rozhovorů s architekty a jsou doprovázeny bohatou architektonickou dokumentací, především velkým množstvím dobových fotografií, dokládajících původní reprezentativní podobu těchto staveb, která je dnes již většinou nenávratně ztracena pod nánosy rekonstrukcí. Dobový kontext v knize dotvářejí umělecky pojaté vizuální koláže. Ty jsou sestavené ze zahraničních katalogů prezentujících kancelářské interiérové produkty a rovněž z reklam, které se tehdy objevovaly v západních architektonických časopisech a měly tak značný vliv na utváření představ zdejších architektů o podobě firemní image. Kniha tak nastavuje některé paralely mezi budováním reprezentativní identity velkých polostátních bankovních institucí a identity nového demokratického státu a obecně tak rekonstruuje scénografii společensko-politické transformace, jejích ideálů a jejích mýtů.

Kniha Na okrajích umění problematizuje a novým způsobem pojímá všeobecně sdílenou představu, podle níž svět umění tvoří oblast nejen odlišnou, nýbrž protikladnou běžnému, každodennímu světu. Výchozím tématem knihy je popis soudního sporu z let 1927 a 1928 mezi francouzsko-rumunským modernistickým sochařem Constantinem Brâncusim a vládou Spojených států amerických. Celní úřad Spojených států tehdy odmítl přiznat některým Brâncusiho sochám pro jejich neobvyklý zjev status uměleckých děl a odepřel jim tímto bezcelní odbavení. Při této události se zdánlivě oddělené světy umění a běžného života zničehonic prolnuly a vyvolaly tak zajímavé otázky ohledně jejich vztahu. Jakou roli hraje při oceňování uměleckých děl definice umění, kterou více či méně vědomě předpokládáme? Jakou roli při hodnocení uměleckých děl hrají pocity, emoce či nálady? Jsou umělecká díla k něčemu užitečná, a pokud ano, k čemu? Jednotlivé kapitoly této knihy se pokoušejí na tyto otázky odpovědět prostřednictvím významných, procesuálně zaměřených hypotéz, tedy filozofií, které kladou ve svém pojetí světa důraz na proces, změnu a kreativitu.
