Azzaro - Fifty Years of Glitter
Fashion designer Loris Azzaro embodied an era. His fashion house, founded in Paris in 1967, was known for visionary silhouettes, slinky silk jerseys, daring cut-outs, and ornate beading and embroidery. Starting with his wife and muse Michelle, Azzaro (b. Tunisia, 1933; d. Paris, 2003) created clothes for beautiful women- among them Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch, Marisa Berenson, Isabelle Adjani, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, and Nicole Kidman. His style was seductive and modern, imbued with audacity and Parisian elegance. He created both mens' and womens' collections, and became well known for his perfumes. Filled with interviews with people who knew and worked with Azzaro, this sumptuous new book focuses on themes important to the designer: style, inspiration, contemporaneity, perfumes, and family. Established in 1952 in Naples (where its headquarters are still located), Mario Valentino is a leading brand in the leather sector and a legendary manufacturer of shoes, accessories and clothing. Its history dates back to the early 1900s, when Mario's father Vincenzo, a highly professional artisan, made his first shoes under the Valentino brand, winning the praise of local aristocrats and international celebrities.
Vincenzo's son Mario learned the secret of creating elegant, customized shoes at his small shop in the heart of Naples. In the early 1970s, following successes at fashion shows in Rome and in the US, Mario's business flourished and he soon expanded into pret-a-porter, where artisanal tanning skills meet the rules of haute couture and where leather takes on unexpected forms. From the late 1960s through the 1980s, top models like Verushka and Ashley Richardson contributed to the brand's success, while photographers like Robert Mapplethorpe, Richard Avedon, Mimmo Jodice, Helmut Newton and many others helped define the designs of Mario Valentino as a true art form.
Drawing on archival documents, this publication recreates the extraordinary adventure of Valentino, recognizing the debt of this "enlightened Neapolitan" to his native land and outlining that "yet unwritten part" he played in the fame of "Made in Italy" businesses.

All Too Human tells the story of how painters in twentieth-century Britain have used paint to record their personal, sensuous, immediate and often intense experiences of life. Spanning a century, this history encompasses a diverse but related group of painters who focused on the depiction of the human figure and everyday landscape they inhabited. Despite their great differences, these artists all shared a similarly intense and scrutinising gaze, and were committed to rendering intimate and powerful representations of humanity.
Concentrating primarily on painters active in the second half of the twentieth century - including Michael Andrews, Frank Auerbach, R.B. Kitaj, Leon Kossoff, Paula Rego, F.N. Litomyšl
Město na řece Loučné má mnoho tváří. Je historická, ale i moderní. Význam historické Litomyšle byl ještě umocněn 1. prosince 1999, kdy byl zdejši zámek spolu s okolím na zámeckém návrší zapsán do Seznamu památek světového kulturního dědictví UNESCO. Zámecký areál, který spolu se sousedícím piaristickým kostelem a klášterem tvoří hlavní dominantu města, si uchoval své prostředí nezměněné od počátku 19. století a je jednou z nejvýznamnějších památek renesance u nás. Budova, stojící na místě gotického biskupského hradu ze 14. století, rozvíjí do monumentální podoby typ italského paláce s arkádovým dvorem, třemi nádvořími, třípatrovými klenutými arkádami, bohatě členěnými štíty a komíny. Interiéry zámku byly upraveny v pozdním baroku a raném klasicismu a doplněny bohatou malířskou výzdobou. Unikátně se z této doby dochovalo zámecké divadlo včetně souboru malovaných kulis a dekorací. K zámeckému areálu patří kromě parku i původně renesanční pivovar, který byl v první třetině 18. století barokně přestavěn Františkem Maxmiliánem Kaňkou, dále jízdárna, konírny a kočárovna. Město Litomyšl má ovšem ještě jinou pozoruhodnou prioritu, současnou architekturu. Raně novověké uměni a kultura se v něm setkávají s vysoce kvalitní současnou architekturou a uměním a vytvářejí tak přinejmenším ve středoevropském prostředí určitě ne tak obvyklý celek. Toto sepětí raného novověku i současnosti představuje a zdůrazňuje právě tato publikace. Autoři publikace Litomyšl (se spolutitulem) Zámecké návrší čele s editorem Prof. PhDr. Jiřím Kroupou přibližují čtenáři na 120 stánkách knihy historii a měnící se podoby města, hradu, zámku a celého zámeckého návrší s měnícími se majiteli. Klášterní projekty, jejich tvůrce, sochaře, malíře. Zámecké divadlo a další stavby. Na závěr potom pozoruhodnou proměnu města v posledních desetiletích. Texty jsou bohatě ilustrované historickými obrázky i současnými fotografiemi Jiřího Podrazila.
