Jan Jedlička je malířem, kreslířem, grafikem, fotografem a filmařem, ale také chodcem, pozorovatelem a médiem. Fundamental Painting
Fundamental Painting (1975): Lessons in Minimalist Painting is the first account of this 1970s current and its role in the history of 20th century painting. The term Fundamental Painting was coined by the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam as the title of a 1975 exhibition that sought to highlight a new kind of painting emerging on both sides of the Atlantic. It was built around Robert Ryman and included 18 artists from Europe and the United States. The then museum director of the Stedelijk Edy de Wilde called their artistic scope "a reflection on the foundations of painting." In the first part of this book, Rajlich traces how the curators defined this specific current and its public as well as its critical reception. In the second part, she explains in detail the elements of paintings, how they are used in Fundamental Painting, and why. Next, Rajlich surveys the use of these painterly elements across 20th century abstract and non-objective painting in relation to the development of Minimalist painting. The last part of this book examines the effect of Fundamental Painting on its viewer in the context of art across the ages. It argues that Fundamental Painting goes beyond formalist concerns and seeks to engage with the concept of beauty as understood through the philosophy of aesthetics.
Claudia Rajlich is a specialist in 20th century art and painting in general. She has extensive experience as an author, curator and art advisor for both public and private institutions. Her recent research has focused on non-objective art, the art market, and interdisciplinary questions around art collecting.
Kniha Fundamental Painting (1975): Lessons in Minimalist Painting přináší první ucelené pojednání o fundamentální malbě a její roli v dějinách malířství 20. století. Termín fundamentální malba vytvořilo amsterdamské Stedelijk Museum a v roce 1975 jej použilo pro název výstavy, která se snažila upozornit na nový druh malby vznikající na obou stranách Atlantiku. Výstava představila 18 umělců z Evropy a ze Spojených států, včetně zakladatelské osobnosti Roberta Rymana. Tehdejší ředitel muzea Edy de Wilde označil jejich umělecké směřování jako reflexi základů malby.
V první části knihy sleduje Claudia Rajlich, jak kurátoři definovali tento specifický proud a jak jej přijala kritická obec i veřejnost, ve druhé části pak autorka podrobně popisuje jednotlivé prvky obrazů a vysvětluje, jak je fundamentální malba používá a proč. Následně také zkoumá použití těchto malířských prvků v abstraktním a neobjektivním malířství 20. století ve vztahu k vývoji minimalistické malby. Závěr knihy je věnován působení fundamentální malby na diváka v kontextu umění v průběhu staletí. Autorka se domnívá, že tento druh malby překračuje rámec formalistických vymezení a že je významně provázán s konceptem krásy, jak jej chápe filozofie estetiky.

A právě také v tom spočívá ona neobvyklá blízkost a korespondence s Nietzscheho filozofickou tvorbou. Pitlach se spolu s Nietzschem ptá po podstatě a smyslu lidské existence, proto jsou jeho fotografie tak naléhavé, tak hluboce lidské.

SkateArt - From the Object to the Artwork
The 2000s proved a turning point for the skateboard and its relationship to art. Previously restricted to practical use, the skate deck left the pavement to appear on the walls of galleries and auction houses. Such was the advent of an entirely new contemporary art movement, laconically baptised Skate Art. From silk-screening to Posca markers, from repurposing and twisted shapes to upcycling broken boards, this volume provides an overview of the most significant techniques and decks of the last two decades. Artists from the realm of Street Art have long had a close relationship with Skate culture, and figures like Shepard Fairey, D*Face and ROA are among the first to have applied their art to this support. At the other end of the spectrum, Mark Gonzales, Thomas Campbell and Ed Templeton are pure products of the skater world, and it was through their collaborations with brands to produce boards that they acceded to the title of artist. The Da Vinci Women
Leonardo da Vinci was a revolutionary thinker, artist and inventor who has been written about and celebrated for centuries. Lesser known, however, is his revolutionary and empowering portrayal of the modern female, centuries before the first women's liberation movements. Before da Vinci, portraits of women in Italy were still, impersonal and mostly shown in profile.
Leonardo pushed the boundaries of female depiction having several of his female subjects, including his Mona Lisa, gaze at the viewer, giving them an authority which was withheld from women at the time. Art historian and journalist Kia Vahland recounts Leonardo's entire life from April 15, 1452, as a child born out of wedlock in Vinci up through his death on May 2, 1519, in the French castle of von Cloux. Included throughout are 80 sketches and paintings showcasing Leonardo's approach to the female form (including anatomical sketches of birth) and other artwork as well as examples from other artists from the 15th and 16th centuries.
Vahland explains how artists like Raphael, Giorgione, Giovanni Bellini and the young Titian were influenced by da Vinci's women while Michelangelo, da Vinci's main rival, created masculine images of woman that counters Leonardo's depictions.
Divadlo za demokracii Theatre for Democracy
Publikaci tehdejšího dramaturga Divadla na provázku, který 18. listopadu 1989 jako první vyhlásil ze scény stávku českých divadel, tvoří z více než třetiny zmenšený reprint výstavy, která byla koncipována pro expedici do Jihoafrické republiky u příležitosti desátého výročí sametové revoluce pod názvem DIVADLO PRO DEMOKRACII Divadlo na provázku a česká divadla v sametové revoluci 1989 (autor koncepce výstavy: Petr Oslzlý, výtvarný autor výstavy: Joska Skalník). Ta tehdy na 22 jednotlivých a vždy na určité téma zaměřených panelech mapovala fotografiemi umístěnými na podkladové koláži z grafických písemných dokumentů příběh unikátního podílu divadla na společenských událostech, které se odehrály v letech 19871990, především pak na rozhodujících společenských změnách roku 1989, pojmenovávaných právě jako sametová revoluce. Pro knižní podobu dopsal Petr Oslzlý k těmto panelům podrobné popisky, jež přibližují dění zachycené na fotografiích. Tuto obrazovou část pak doplnil svými již dříve publikovanými, ale nyní nově zredigovanými texty na toto téma: přednáškou Revoluce českých divadel a divadelnost české revoluce, rozhovorem s Karlem Hvížďalou z druhého vydání knihy Výslech revolucionářů z roku 89 a přednáškou Divadlo ve svatém kruhu. Veškeré texty jsou zde publikovány jak v české, tak v anglické verzi, jejíž autorkou je významná překladatelka, pedagožka a spisovatelka Barbara Day. Prestižní velkoformátová a částečně celobarevná publikace na křídovém papíře s množstvím unikátních, poprvé v historii otištěných dokumentů je nesporně jedním z exkluzivních připomenutí událostí z roku 1989 a role, kterou v nich sehráli studenti a divadla.

Georg Baselitz
A prolific artist with a protean output, Georg Baselitz has rethought the conventions of a range of media, predominantly painting and sculpture, over the course of a career of some sixty years. Born in 1938, Baselitz was expelled from art school in East Berlin in 1956 for 'socio-political immaturity', and moved to the western half of the city. By the late 1950s, he had rejected the dominant tendencies of both sides of the country and his singular achievement was to reintroduce the figure, compromised and discredited though it was by both Nazism and Communism, into art. By drawing attention to art by 'outsiders', such as psychiatric patients, and invoking a Parisian model of existentialist art and literature, Baselitz proposed an alternative European tradition that did not eliminate the human subject.
In alluding later to movements in German painting such as Expressionism as well as to artists like Munch, he also consciously rehabilitated the kind of art that was condemned by Hitler as 'degenerate'. The book follows the development of Baselitz's unique style from his earliest work through to the most recent creations of his eighth decade. Calvocoressi's masterful construction of a chronological narrative helps us to evaluate Baselitz's work in terms of the disruptions of his life - historical upheavals witnessed alongside an astonishing career.
