Strange Impressions
Most known for her bold and darkly painted portraits, Brooks was revolutionary in her feminist renderings of women in resistance. Openly queer, she challenged conceptions of gender and sexuality in her art, which also served as her refuge. While many of her male counterparts were disfiguring and cubing their subjects—often women—Brooks gave personhood and power to the figures she painted. Her frank approach to her complicated relationship with her mother, faith, wealth, sexuality, and gender is complemented by a keen wit that echoes the gray tones of her work.
Though her paintings are held in major collections, Brooks’s influence in modernist circles of the early twentieth century is largely underexplored. This new publication, guided by Brooks’s own impressionistic musings, bridges an important gap between the art and the artist. An introduction by Lauren O’Neill-Butler explores Brooks’s role as an artist in the early twentieth century through the lens of gender and sexuality.
Soviet Playgrounds
A photographic survey of Soviet-era playgrounds found in former members of the USSR, such as Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Through five chapters containing more than 150 photographs, the book documents the mass-produced, yet diverse play equipment installed in the communal spaces of socialist-era housing estates, such as rocket slides and earth-shaped climbers, spaceships and animal-themed ladders, cosmic roundabouts and bizarre objects that would probably raise safety concerns nowadays.
From Riga to Dushanbe and all the way from Kyiv to Vladivostok, children dreamt of becoming cosmonauts, and enjoyed the many space-themed playscapes which had proliferated since the onset of the Cold War era. While some are still in use, others are slowly disappearing to make way for modern equipment, or, more recently, being destroyed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, becoming only a faint memory of a Soviet childhood.
Includes a foreword by the Ukrainian urban planner Mykola Gorokhov and informative maps of the playgrounds featured in every chapter. Pictures were taken by Zupagrafika, with contributions by local photographers.

Gravitační pole nevyslovitelného
V publikaci Gravitační pole nevyslovitelného dochází k setkání dialogu jazyka poezie a výtvarného umění. Kniha je záznamem dialogu významného anglického sochaře Antonyho Gormleye a české autorky poezie Pavly Melkové, v němž se postupně vyjevovala příbuznost cíle hledaného a obou jazyků na cestě k němu. Linie slov básně i čáry kresby jsou stopy přibližování k tvaru podstaty - světa, našeho života, vztahů, situací. Jsou stopami jeho obkružování, tahy imaginace. Tahy slov poezie a tahy linií kreseb v této knize obkružují tentýž střed a odvíjí se od stejného horizontu. Křížení stop zpřesňuje obrys. V ponoření do tahů skrze vědomí se objevuje jeden společný jazyk. A v tom je smysl jejich setkání.
Kniha vychází dvojjazyčně, tak aby byla plnohodnotným dialogem obou autorů a přístupná v obou jazykových prostředích. Je také důležitým příspěvkem v přiblížení Antonyho Gormleye českému čtenáři, o kterém v českém jazyce doposud nevyšla žádná publikace. Kniha zároveň interpretuje kresby Antonyho Gormleye, které podobným způsobem nebyly zatím knižně uchopeny.

Feministické divadlo a jeho slovenská cesta

Jean-Michel Basquiat: Of Symbols and Signs
