A Graphic Cosmogony

Pavel Brázda je považován za jednu z nejvýraznějších solitérních osobností českého výtvarného umění druhé poloviny dvacátého století i začátku tohoto tisíciletí. Jeho tvorba vychází z naprosto osobitého pojetí figurálního realismu, v němž se propojují prvky vnitřního snového vizionářství s výpovědí obecného humanistického sdělení o světě a pozitivní a vitální i stinné stránce lidské psychiky. K jeho souborné půlroční výstavě v Národní galerii v letech 2005-2006 vyšla obsáhlá monografie Brázda, dnes již bezmála rozebraná. Kolekci asi 300 kreseb a kresebných skladeb, s kterými Brázda začínal v druhé polovině 80. let ještě jako topič v koksové kotelně a pokračoval donedávna, se už dlouho chystal vydat knižně. Kromě několika z nich nebyly dosud zveřejňovány, ale vyhrazeny k tomuto záměru. Doprovázeny a spojeny v ucelenou fabuli budou autorovým textem. První díl je nazván HR, druhý A, vcelku tedy HRA.
Divadelný život Prešova
Peter Himič vo svojej práci zachytáva najvýznamnejšie udalosti divadelného života Prešova od jeho začiatkov, cez pestré a plodné medzivojnové obdobie až po vznik prvého profesionálneho divadla roku 1950. Dokladá, že Prešov mal vo svojich divadelných dejinách niekoľko významných a výnimočných projektov, ktoré presahovali rámec regiónu a zostávajú zapísané aj v dejinách slovenského neprofesionálneho divadla. Vo svojej práci sa opiera o bohatý informačný materiál rozličnej proveniencie (historické dokumenty, dobová publicistika, memoárová literatúra, administratívne zápisy a pod.), pričom sa mu darí vytvoriť plastický, odborne erudovaný obraz o metamorfózach divadelného života spomínaného mesta predovšetkým v prvej polovici 20. storočia. Pozoruhodné na koncepcii monografie je autorovo úsilie prepojiť regionálnu divadelnú kultúru na pohyb slovenského divadelného umenia v rozličných historických periódach. Práca má svoj význam pre vlastný región Šariša, no zároveň je prínosná aj v nadregionálnych súvislostiach, v spoznávaní celého komplexu národnej divadelnej kultúry. Roky budovania profesionálneho divadla v Prešove boli poznačené zápasom o žáner, o jeho podobu a existenciu. Tento dlhý a zložitý proces autor teatrologicky aj kulturologicky pomenováva a syntetizuje. Vytvára rozsiahly obraz nielen o divadle, ale aj o meste, regióne a ľuďoch, ktorí v ňom žili a tvorili.

A kiváló művészettörténész Sir Nikolaus Pevsner (1902-1983) átfogó építészettörténeti munkáját a világ számos nyelvére lefordították, első megjelenése, 1943 után a szerző többször kibővítette, újabb és újabb országok építészetét emelve be a szövegbe. Hitler hatalomra jutását követően kényszerült emigrációba, és Az európai építészet történetét a háború évei alatt már Nagy Britanniában, a Penguin Books kiadó felkérésére készítette el.
A kiadó törekedett arra, hogy a legjobb szerzőkkel dolgozzon, kötetei alaposak, szakmailag kifogástalanok, ugyanakkor olvasmányosak is legyenek. Vízimalmok a Kárpát-medencében
"Az, hogy hazánk a középkorban, a honfoglalástól a XVI. századi török hódoltságig jelentős hatalmi tényező, mai szóval élve nagyhatalom volt, a történelemről hiteles és alapos ismeretekkel rendelkezők számára nem kérdéses. E virágkor az európai művészetben szinte pontosan egybeesik a romanika és a gótika időszakával, így persze nem csoda, ha Magyarország, vagyis a Kárpát-medence e korszakok építészeti és képzőművészeti emlékeinek hatalmas tárháza. E könyvsorozat célja a magyar Szent Korona felségterületén található ezen kincsek részletes ismertetése.
A kőpárokkal történő kézi gabonaőrlés még az őskorban kialakult. A történeti középkorban azonban már sokfelé, így a XI. századi Magyarországon is elterjedtek, feltűnően gyakoriak voltak a vízimalmok, folyók és a patakok vizeinek mozgási energiáját felhasználó gabonaőrlő művek. Ezer év távlatára utal az írásos emlékanyag: számtalan irat, perbeli feljegyzés egyértelműen tanúskodik a honi vízimalmok korai létéről.
A vízimalmok, ezen belül elsősorban a patakmalmok, később a hajómalmok száma hazánkban az évszázadok során rohamosan gyarapodott, bár e malmokból -a tatárral, törökkel vívott háborúk, a nagy tűzvészek, rendkívüli áradások következtében- időközben rengeteg el is pusztult. Az ismétlődő újjáépítésük, illetve az újabb malomhelyeken is történő létesítésük folytán, a XVIII. század vége felé a Kárpát-medencében alig volt olyan település, város, falu vagy major (puszta), ahol a közeli folyón, patakon legalább egy vízimalom ne üzemelt volna. A XIX. század közepén-végén működő szinte hihetetlen mennyiségű, mintegy 20.000 vízimalomból közel 80 %-ra, vagyis 16.000 körülire tehető a lisztőrlő patak- és hajómalmok száma.
A kárpát-medencei vízimalmok magával ragadó világát, múltját, mai valóságát igyekszünk könyvünkben mintegy 1400 település lisztelő vízimalmainak ismertetésével, s több mint 400 illusztrációval -a régi metszetektől kezdve, archív felvételekkel, napjainkban készült fényképekkel és vázlatrajzokkal- bemutatni. Kitérünk arra is, hogy újabban néhány vízimalomban kísérlet történik egy-egy új funkció -múzeum, panzió stb.- kialakítására.
