Pattern Design
Patterns are everywhere – on paper or cloth, as wallpaper or as wrapping material. Patterns can be strictly abstract and geometrical or concrete, multicoloured or monochrome. Sometimes they serve as a background, sometimes as a coating.
They are usually composed of a recurrent motif – often floral or natural, sometimes abstract. They have in common that they're not meant to be seen as a picture with a focus, nor as the main thing that draws the attention. The purpose of a pattern is mostly to create a mood, a backdrop, a setting for the main thing.
Creating an ideal pattern requires a certain restraint and a good knowledge of colours. Historically, William Morris springs to the mind with his famous quasi-mediaeval designs for panels and textiles. More recently, the Finnish company Marimekko defined a style that is mostly associated with the sixties, though their influence is still visible today. You'll find traces of both in many of the designs collected in this book.

Modern Architecture in Japan
The contemporary architecture of Japan has long been among the most inventive in the world, recognized for sustainability and infinite creativity. No fewer than seven Japanese architects have won the Pritzker Prize.
Since Osaka World Expo '70 brought contemporary forms center stage, Japan has been a key player in global architecture. Apokalypsa
Malíř Jan Souček dávno snil o výtvarném ztvárnění apokalypsy. Svým dílem měl vyzkoušeny výtvarné finesy, které umožňují ztvárnit i nepochopitelné, nepopsatelné a neviditelné. Měl však trému před malíři, kteří se o totéž pokusili v minulosti, zejména před Albrechtem Dürerem. To bylo ovšem zbytečné, protože Mistr Albrecht Dürer maloval Zjevení sv. Jana čili apokalypsu na přelomu 15. a 16. století, což tu hraje svou roli. I Dürer by totiž své dřevoryty tvořil dnes jinak než před půl tisíciletím. Sotva by si dnes dovolil vytvořit realistického Boha s vousy jako pečlivého účetního, který v dávných lidských představách sečítal ve svých knihách naše přečiny. Rovněž já jsem usiloval o vlastní text apokalypsy a zároveň sledoval Jana Součka, v mých představách nového Mistra apokalypsy. Poprvé jsme se osobně setkali v Bonnu v roce 1991 a dohodli jsme se, že na tomto náročném díle budeme spolupracovat; já svým textem, on svými grafikami. Stalo se. Aniž bychom jeden druhého omezovali, vzájemně jsme se inspirovali.
Zasvěcení čtenáři bible vědí, že Zjevení sv. Jana je vůbec nejsložitější pasáží bible a že s interpretací apokalypsy dodnes zápolí teologové všech náboženských hnutí. Malíř Souček ji zpodobnil na 22 listech, z nichž každý odpovídá jedné z 22 kapitol apokalypsy. Víme, že se v této knize, kterou přečteme za dvě hodiny, ale můžeme nad ní hloubat celý život, vyskytují šelmy a andělé a pečetě a svitky, i zhouba, která má postihnout celé lidstvo. Zejména s koncem každého století či tisíciletí pociťují lidé strach z přelomu doby. Dnes o to aktuálněji, že naše doba je dokonce naší vlastní zásluhou navštívena možným koncem více než kterákoli jiná. Cítíme, že kdesi za horizontem času vychází nová civilizační etapa, jsme na tahu, a Součkovo dílo, které nás může přimět i ke zpytování svědomí, přišlo v pravý čas.Vraťme se však ke smyslu apokalypsy. Každá sekta se snaží využít čísel a obrazů v textu, kreslí do detailu počty nás, kdo budeme zatraceni nebo uchráněni, hledá tajemství prokletého sledu vládců. Neboť každý čas v Janově vyprávění nacházel sám sebe, a sled posledních dnů podle koloritu, technických možností a podoby času. Ve skutečnosti je všechno mnohem prostší.
Neboť každého z nás čeká jednoho dne naše vlastní apokalypsa, náš zcela osobní konec světa. I tohle cítil Honza Souček, a tudíž pospíchal, aby stihl všechno, co by nám tu rád zanechal. Vždycky pospíchali velcí duchové, a tento aktivní rod, který v každé vteřině usiloval, jako by šlo o všechno, vytvořil nejprve antiku a pak i celou evropskou civilizaci.
S flétničkou do školky
Autorka (v současné době sama vyučuje hru na zobcovou flétnu na mateřských školách) předládá tuto Školičku sestavenou z jednoduchých lidových písní, které používá při výuce a které zároveň patří u dětí k nejoblíbenějším.
U názvů not zvolila dnes už téměř zavedená jména pro jednotlivé tóny. Nejběžnější jména jako Honzík, Adélka, nebo Gustík je ovšem možné měnit, jak se komu líbí.
Nechybí ani nákresy hmatů na zobcové flétně. U každého nového hmatu je zásoba několika písní, ve kterých se nový tón vždy objeví.
Písničky jsou doprovázeny dětskými kresbami vhodnými k vybarvování. V závěru knihy jsou i klavírní doprovody k některým vybraným písním.
