Moderní česká architektura
Česká moderní architektura představuje mimořádné opus magnum prof. Vladimíra Šlapety – komplexní a dosud nejrozsáhlejší přehled české architektury od počátku 20. století až do současnosti. Publikace nabízí ucelený chronologický výklad doplněný o více než 900 fotografií staveb, plánů a archivních materiálů, které zasazují architekturu do širších historických, kulturních a společenských souvislostí. Výstava spolu s publikací zkoumá vývoj angažovaného a protestního umění v českých zemích s důrazem na období od globální finanční krize roku 2008. Domácí vývoj klade do širšího kontextu mezinárodních hnutí, jako jsou Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter, Me Too, Fridays for Future, Extinction Rebellion a další. Vedle českých kolektivních iniciativ se projekt zaměřuje i na zahraniční umělecké skupiny, jejichž aktivity ovlivnily politické události a staly se inspirací pro domácí umělce. Pozornost je věnována i umění ve veřejném prostoru, sociálním intervencím a participativním strategiím, které podporují občanské iniciativy a posilují společenskou odolnost. Projekt zkoumá vztahy mezi jednotlivcem a globální i lokální komunitou, analyzuje solidaritu, odpovědnost a umělecké prostředky jako formu aktivního angažmá. Skupina reflektuje propojení umění a sociální spravedlnosti, lidských práv a ekologických otázek – upozorňuje na neoddělitelný charakter těchto témat v době antropocénu. Publikace pracuje s dokumentačními i uměleckými formami a sleduje pojem „performativní demokracie“, jak ho popisuje teoretik Peter Weibel. Zároveň se celý projekt ptá na roli protestního umění v politickém rámci: kde leží hranice jeho společenské přijatelnosti, odmítání a případného postihu?

In addition to Czech collective initiatives, the project also focuses on international art groups whose activities have influenced political events and inspired domestic artists. Attention is also paid to art in public spaces, social interventions and participatory strategies that support civic initiatives and strengthen social resilience. The project explores the relationships between individuals and both global and local communities, analysing solidarity, responsibility and artistic means as forms of active engagement. The group reflects on the interconnectedness of art, social justice, human rights and environmental issues, highlighting the inseparable nature of these topics in the Anthropocene era. The publication utilises documentary and artistic forms and explores the concept of ""performative democracy,"" as described by theorist Peter Weibel. At the same time, the entire project raises questions about the role of protest art in the political sphere: what are the boundaries of its social acceptability, rejection and possible punishment?

Teaching Urbanism is also a call for taking responsibility and position in political, social, and cultural matters and with regard to planning policies. Living spaces and buildings must be designed collectively rather than individually. With more than four hundred illustrations spanning three decades, Event Horizon is the most extensive monograph on Roman Ondak’s work to date, published on the occasion of his solo exhibition Infinitum at Fundació T?pies in Barcelona in 2023.
Slovak artist Roman Ondak (b. 1966, Žilina) works in installation, photography, video, drawing and performance art, often involving people he has some relationship with. Ondak spent his childhood and adolescence in Czechoslovakia, then relatively isolated by its autocratic regime, and learned to understand society as an attempt to order existence through divisions and classifications of inclusion and exclusion. The artist addresses the failure of this structure in his work, while deploying the potential of other orders, other patterns of behavior and, ultimately, alternative social and political possibilities. His work often gives the impression that reality has been slightly readjusted, which in part is a tactical response to the propagandistic alterations of image and word that were the norm during the artist’s formative years.

Hanyo (The Housemaid)
The upwardly mobile Kim family employs a young woman to help manage their new house. Mr. Kim begins an affair with the nameless ‘housemaid’, who soon drags the entire family into a terrible tragedy… The director Kim Ko-young played a formative part in South Korean cinema’s “Golden Age” of the 1960s and 1970s; his 1960 masterpiece, Hanyo (The Housemaid), rescued and restored after almost being lost, is today widely regarded as one of the greatest South Korean films of all time. Directors such as Park Chan-wook, Im Sang-soo, Kim Ki-duk, Ryu Seung-wan and Kim Jee-woon have all praised the film, and Bong Joon-ho has referred to Hanyo as “the Citizen Kane of Korean cinema,” citing it as an inspiration for his film, Parasite (2019). In this book, Youngmin Choe argues that Hanyo encapsulates the mood of social change in postwar South Korea during the period of tremendous upheaval and rapid transformation that followed the devastating war, which divided families across the newly formed Cold War boundaries. The housemaid – a figure that Kim Ki-young would explore repeatedly throughout his career – was a young woman driven by greed and envy, a femme-fatale set loose on the middle-class home. A monstrous embodiment of the destructive desires of capitalism, which recklessly eroded the foundations of tradition, this housemaid served as the conscience of a period that otherwise leaned heavily into economic transformation, pointing to the anxiety that undergirded what might be otherwise regarded as a time of ‘progress’. Going beyond the traditionalist approaches that resist feminist readings of Hanyo, Youngmin Choe insists that the enduring legacy of Hanyo is both due to its uncanny aesthetics and - though it certainly was not intended to be an explicitly feminist film - in the questions it raises about class mobility, gender oppression and women’s work.

Dějiny českých dějin umění II. 1970–1990
Publikace je druhým dílem historického vylíčení proměn akademického oboru dějiny a teorie umění v dnešní České republice a zabývá se dvaceti lety tzv. normalizace. Navazuje na první díl Dějiny českých dějin umění 1945–1969 / Dějiny umění slouží vědě o člověku (UMPRUM 2020). Na základě rozsáhlého archivního studia, čtení dobových uměleckohistorických publikací, pamětnických rozhovorů a v neposlední řadě i svých vlastních vzpomínek a zkušeností vykresluje autorka období, kdy čeští historici a historičky umění dosáhli dlouho připravovaných cílů svého oboru, avšak museli se potýkat s omezováním svobody vědeckého bádání i vysokoškolského studia a s nemožností volného cestování. Kniha poprvé představuje blízký pohled na navigování jednotlivců i celé oborové komunity v situaci napětí mezi každodenností, podvolením a vzdorem v intelektuální společnosti 70.–80. let. Tuto dobu autorka chápe jako „naši domácí postmodernu“, jež vedla k rozštěpení reality, které však neprobíhá podle konvenčního rozlišení dobra a zla. V neposlední řadě představuje kniha teoreticky podložený pokus, jak včlenit badatelský subjekt do studia soudobých dějin. Systematický i chronologický výklad nabízejí vhled do fungování infrastruktur humanitního vědeckého oboru a odhalují strategie vyrovnávání s cenzurou i dalšími omezeními. Kniha předkládá dramatické lidské příběhy rámované konfrontací s tajnou politickou policií a požadavkem na politickou konformitu prostřednictvím členství v komunistické straně. Na druhé straně zkoumá také zkušenosti autonomie a svobody na okrajích povoleného, zejména v samizdatové produkci, přičemž klade větší důraz na vnitřně svobodné jednání než na status oběti. Práce ukazuje tři roky přestavby, zvrat listopadové revoluce a překvapení následujícího roku 1990, přičemž nabízí podněty k tomu, abychom jej přestali zjednodušeně považovat za „rok nula“.
