Pojednání o harmonii
Českému čtenáři se překladem Rejchovy učebnice harmonie poprvé dostává do rukou jeden z nejvýznamnějších pramenů hudebních kompozičních nauk první poloviny 19. století – pramen poznání hudební harmonie ještě úzce propojený s aktuálním stavem a požadavky dobové hudební kompozice. Z hlediska autorových vizí do budoucnosti se setkáváme také s typem učebnice, která dávala řadě studentů mocné podněty na jejich umělecké cestě. Mnohý čtenář této knihy si určitě nejednou propojí Rejchovy inovační nápady se jmény Berlioz, Liszt, Gounod, Onslow, Franck, Smetana…
Učebnice hudební kompozice, neboli úplné a odůvodněné pojednání o praktické harmonii (Cours de composition musicale ou traité complet et raisonné d´harmonie pratique) patřila v hudební kariéře Antonína Rejchy mezi nejvýznamnější přelomové milníky. Počínaje rokem 1818 se stal pedagogem pařížské konzervatoře a učebnice harmonie vyšla ještě téhož roku. Spis se stal základním výukovým materiálem harmonie jako základního teoretického předmětu v rámci takzvaných kompozičních nauk, v jejichž rámci pak studium pokračovalo výukou kontrapunktu a fugy.
Základní pozitivní přínosy Rejchovy práce lze spatřovat v tom, že východiskem výkladu je vždy hudební příklad, přičemž teoretické diskuse jsou zkráceny ve prospěch praktických demonstrací, cvičení k probírané látce jsou navrhována nejenom s ohledem na zvládnutí techniky kompozice, ale vždy současně zohledňují i umělecké zacházení s hudební matérií. Rejcha opakovaně zdůrazňuje, že jeho práce o hudební harmonii souvisí s dobovou kompoziční praxí a v žádném případě nechce patřit k metodám výuky, po jejímž absolvování studenti zjišťují, že skutečná praktická stránka hudební kompozice vůbec nesouvisí s tím, co se do té doby učili.
