Dennis Morris - Life + Music
A career retrospective on one of the all-time great photographers of both music and black culture, Dennis Morris. When we think of the trailblazing photographer Dennis Morris’s work, music is right there. Morris’s adventures in the 1970s reggae and punk scene laid the groundwork for a six-decade career.
It all began with Bob Marley: Morris doorstepped Marley in his early teens while skipping school and went on to capture much of Marley’s tour, which launched his career as a music photographer. He later became the official photographer for the Sex Pistols, and for John Lydon’s next project, Public Image Limited, Morris was art director and designer as well as taking iconic images for the band. He captured the greats of reggae and roots music, from Lee 'Scratch' Perry to Toots and Jimmy Cliff, forming friendships with many of the acts.
Morris's documentary and street photography work, with roots in his experiences as a Black teenager in 1970s Britain, bring us visionary projects that explore race, politics and cultural identity. From the miner's strike to squat protests, from civil rights organizations to pop-up studio portraits, his work was a reckoning with his new home, capturing eccentricity and individual spirits with his camera. Edited by Laurie Hurwitz, this book unfolds in two electrifying parts: the first unravels Morris’s lens on race, culture and identity in 1970s Britain, while the second pulses with encounters with music legends like Patti Smith, Gregory Isaacs, The Stone Roses and Radiohead.
With contributions from agnes B and Sean O’Hagan, the book will delight photography fans and music lovers alike. It includes previously unseen images, and is supported by an internationally touring exhibition, presenting Morris’s influential work in depth for the first time.

Following the success of ToiletMartin PaperParr and ToiletAlex PaperPrager, ToiletMiles PaperAldridge is the third magazine collaboration from Toiletpaper duo Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari.
British photographer Miles Aldridge has developed an editorial style that is both couture and chromatic but also surreal. He is influenced by the films of Federico Fellini and David Lynch and the photography of Richard Avedon, as well as the album covers and book designs created by his father, Alan Aldridge. As one of Aldridge’s own inspirations, David Lynch, once said of his work: “Miles sees a color-coordinated, graphically pure, hard-edged reality.” This latest issue of Toiletpaper sequences a selection of Aldridge’s glamorous and elaborate mise-en-scene images in a palette of vibrant acidic hues.

Vizuální umělkyně Magdaléna Kašparová pracuje se zápisky ze svého dospívání podobně jako s obrazovými kolážemi. Primárně nejde o psaní, ale o shromáždění stop určité fáze života. Deníkové záznamy, „dopísky“ nebo esemesky vylovené z paměti starého mobilu nás od pubertální zkratkovitosti, naivity či kýčovitosti vedou k prožité bolesti. Hlavním tématem je anorexie. Magdaléna Kašparová (nar. 1993) je multimediální umělkyně, absolventka Akademie výtvarných umění v Praze. Ve své tvorbě se obrací k osobní paměti, s níž pracuje prostřednictvím (kompulzivně shromažďovaných) dobových artefaktů, popkulturních trendů, ale také dobově příznačných komunikačních kanálů (SMS, MMS, facebook, snapchat). Využívá přitom prostředků remediace a mediální archeologie. V autorských videích jako My 00’s Diary (2020) nebo Storytime (2021) přejímá konvence vlogu; projekt Osobní archeologie prezentovala formou site-specific instalace i webové stránky. V připravované knize Hlavně se těším na sny se prostřednictvím textových záznamů a obrazových koláží vrací ke své zkušenosti s poruchou příjmu potravy, kvůli níž byla hospitalizována v nemocnici v Motole.

Ač malíř a grafik Jaroslav Králík (1924–1999) vládl osobitým a inovativním stylem, přesto jeho dílo doposud zůstává širší veřejnosti spíše neznámé. Symbolickou splátkou toho dluhu je výpravná publikace, kterou připravil umělcův syn a která je důstojným potvrzením pevného Králíkova postavení v rámci umění druhé poloviny 20. století. K jeho spolužákům z ateliéru Emila Filly patřili například Čestmír Kafka a sestry Válovy, přátelské vztahy později navázal s Františkem Tichým či Kamilem Lhotákem. Oblast jeho tvůrčího zájmu byla široká, od monumentálních realizací do architektury a veřejného prostoru (gobelíny, art protis, vitráže) až po intimní kresby, grafiky či koláže, v nichž zejména rozvíjel citace obrazů starých mistrů, nejčastěji Hieronyma Bosche, Matthiase Grünewalda, Pietera Bruegela, Albrechta Dürera, Piera della Francesco či Sandra Botticelliho, fascinovala jej též estetika rukopisného písma nebo tištěného textu. Králíkova originální výtvarná řeč s ozvuky metafyzické malby, surrealismu a symbolismu otevírá široký prostor pro hlubší kosmologické otázky i úvahy o okolním světě a roli člověka v něm.

Scotland
The name of Scotland seems to originate from the latin word Scoti, which was the word used by the Romans to describe some of the Gaelic peoples found in the British Isles around 1600 years ago. With 16,500 km (10,250 mi) of coastline, Scotland has always been closely associated with the sea and all its dangers, as may be seen from many dozens of lighthouses which dot its shores. Scotland, however was also at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution, a land whose scientific, philosophical and technological innovation changed the world. There is, indeed, so much more to Scotland than just tartan and kilts.
