The renowned Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza is widely regarded as one of the most important architects of the 20th and 21st centuries. Publikace je kolektivním sborníkem a teoreticko-uměleckou reflexí projektu Centra pro umění a ekologii UMPRUM. Podobně jako archiv projektu zachycuje jeho procesuálnost v letech 2022–2024 a shrnuje jak teoreticko-metodologické, tak imaginativní a vizuální uvažování o tématech umění, ekologie, inkluze, ekofeminismu, nerůstu a komunitního soužití ve veřejném prostoru. Kniha čerpá zejména ze tří mezinárodních a mezioborových sympozií, která se konala na Kafkárně pod záštitou Centra pro umění a ekologii UMPRUM v letech 2022–2023. Staví tak mj. na příspěvcích pozvaných účastníků a účastnic. Kniha je spíše ne zcela uzavřenou úvahou či metodickým návodem, jak centrum umění a ekologie vytvořit, otevřeným procesem výměny a interakce na zkoumaná témata a jevy. Jako fotografka, portrétistka, odbornice na dokumentační činnost a autorka mnoha publicistických textů, se Lucia Moholy (1894–1989) vzpírá jasné kategorizaci. Působila aktivně jak v avantgardních kruzích, tak na poli informační vědy, kde přispívala k prohloubení porozumění vizuální reprodukci. Oproti předchozím titulům věnovaným Lucii Moholy, které omezovaly její úspěchy na pětileté působení na Bauhausu, publikace Lucia Moholy: Exposures poprvé zachycuje celou šíři její publikační i fotografické činnosti. Obsáhlé eseje čerpající z nových archivních nálezů odhalují její mládí v Praze na přelomu století, zapojení v radikálních sociálních hnutích ve dvacátých letech 20. století v Německu v období Výmarské republiky, emigraci do Londýna, kde se jejími kolegy a přáteli stali i členové skupiny Bloomsbury, dále její působení v oblasti mikrofilmové a vědecké dokumentace za druhé světové války, pracovní působení v Turecku pro UNESCO i její přijetí mladší uměleckou generací, včetně Jana Tichého. Publikace přibližuje, jak mezioborový přístup k fotografii uplatňovaný Moholy ve všech těchto kontextech předznamenal postanalogovou současnost tohoto média.
Diogenes Kynik znovu naživu a Patriarcha Abraham
První část knihy přináší nový překlad Komenského školní hry z roku 1640 Diogenes Cynicus redivivus. Tento známý text čekal na nové přetlumočení celých 54 let; nový český převod bude jistě pro mnoho čtenářů lákavější než zestárlý překlad. Druhá část knihy nabízí čtenářům české přetlumočení Komenského v pořadí druhé hry Abrahamus Patriarcha. Z této Komenského práce byly dosud českým čtenářům k dispozici jen drobné ukázky. Oba překlady vycházejí s komentáři a úvodní studií.
Drapérie
Drapérii máme spojenou zejména s výtvarným uměním. Nařasená, zvlněná nebo vyskládaná látka na nejrůznějších postavách, stolech nebo jen tak ledabyle pohozená na sofa. Ale pozor, i zmuchlaná peřina na rozestlané posteli nese znamení drapérie. Historii a současnost tohoto kompozičně výtvarného prvku nám v širokém kulturním a civilizačním kontextu představí právě tato kniha.
Seznámíme se se symbolickou rolí drapérie, tedy k čemu všemu sloužila a jakou funkci v historii sehrála. Autor drapérii nechápe jen jako výtvarný prvek, je to také způsob, jímž se tělesnost otevírá našemu vnímání. Proto je také jedna z kapitol věnována erotice v souvislosti s drapérií. Autor ukazuje různé fasety, jimiž se drapérie podrobuje našemu vnímání. Tematizuje například ticho („řečí drapérie je ticho“), tělesnost, pohyb, rytmus, ale také sociální dimenzi drapérie (kapitola Oděv jako sociální kůže). Věnuje se i vztahu zátiší a drapérie („Zátiší je ontologická tišina, z jejíhož ticha se ozývá echo bytí.“).
Kniha čtenáře provede historickými obdobími, tedy antikou, románským stylem, gotikou, renesancí, barokem, rokokem, neoklasicismem, romantismem, symbolismem, modernou a současností. Knihu lze s velkou mírou zjednodušení chápat jako soubor tří vrstev: 1. Nesoustavné dějiny lidské tělesnosti ve výtvarném umění v souvislosti s drapérií. 2. Průvodce po konkrétních dílech, v nichž drapérie hraje důležitou roli. 3. Drapérie jako symbol sepětí přírody a kultury. Nejde však o tři oddělené oddíly či kapitoly, neboť tyto tři roviny se vzájemně prolínají.
Sto let Fotografie 1839-1939: Lucia Moholy
Kniha redaktorky, spisovatelky, pedagožky, fotografky a znalkyně historie fotografie Lucie Moholy představuje krátký dobový výklad kulturně-historických dějin fotografie. Publikace doplněná řadou unikátních snímků a časopiseckých ilustrací popisuje vývoj fotografie od jejích počátků, kdy platila za svého druhu magii, až po status produktu masové výroby, jemuž se těšila v původním roce vydání publikace (1939). Ačkoliv objevy a vynálezy vedoucí ke vzniku fotografie sahají hluboko do historie, její závratný rozvoj započal v okamžiku, kdy Louis Daguerre představil první portrét žijící osoby. Autorka v knize zasazuje předpoklady, vývoj a úspěchy nového média do širokého kontextu politických, ekonomických, technických, estetických, uměleckých a sociokulturních vazeb.
Searching for Dexys Midnight Runners
In the early 1980s, the pop charts were dominated by musicians tarted up in Day-Glo colours, who fought it out for coverage on our TV screens and magazine pages. Dexys Midnight Runners did things differently. They were surly. They were serious. They were ambitious, but success had to come on their terms. They were a disciplined outfit, a gang with a defined purpose: to make music so pure that it couldn't fail to elicit a deep emotional response from anyone within earshot.
And they managed it. This motley crew - in woolly hats and donkey jackets for their first coming; all dungarees and copious body hair for the second - gate-crashed the charts, scoring number-one hits around the globe. But being in Dexys wasn't all sunshine and roses. Many members came, many members went. Some returned unexpectedly as being part of this particular gang was a way of life; it was everything.
