Georgia O'Keeffe - My New Yorks
A revelatory study of Georgia O’Keeffe’s New York paintings of the late 1920s and their deep significance within the artist’s development
In 1924 Georgia O’Keeffe (1887–1986) first moved to the Shelton Hotel in New York with her husband, the photographer and art dealer Alfred Stieglitz. The Shelton was Manhattan’s earliest residential skyscraper, and its dizzying heights inspired O’Keeffe to create a powerful series of approximately twenty-five paintings and numerous drawings over a span of about five years. She called these “my New Yorks,” and they overwhelmingly consist of two types of compositions: sprawling observations looking down onto the city and humbling views directed up at the newly built urban monoliths. Exploring the New York skyline, O’Keeffe resisted the approach of contemporaries such as Charles Sheeler and Paul Strand—who celebrated New York as a streamlined, impersonal series of geometric canyons—and instead portrayed it as an amalgamation of the organic and the inorganic, the natural and the constructed. Only in this way could she express New York (in her words) “as it is felt.”
Reshaping our understanding of this pivotal yet underappreciated period in O’Keeffe’s storied career, this publication situates the New York paintings within the artist’s larger oeuvre and examines how these works reflect narratives of built environments, racialized space, and the politics of place.

Půl století humanisticky laděného fotografování završuje Dana Kyndrová devátou obrazovou publikací. Autorka knih stavěných na způsob příběhů se prosadila soustavným zveřejňováním nadčasových svědectví o rozmanitých stránkách společenské problematiky.
Devadesátkami rekapituluje sváteční nálady konce totality i všednodenní pracovní nasazení. Původní hledisko bezprostředních postřehů získává s odstupem času na kritické dramatičnosti. Připomíná jak úpadky průmyslových podniků, tak „bouřlivé erotické akce a pompézní párty,“ řečeno slovy dokumentaristky. „Na pivních slavnostech teče pivo proudem a Češi jsou ve svém živlu…“
Stavitelé katedrál 6 - Opus francigenum: katedrály remešské církevní provincie
Remešská církevní provincie zahrnovala rozsáhlé území severovýchodní Francie a současné Belgie. Pod Remeš spadala tato biskupství: Amiens, Arras, Beauvais, Cambrai, Châlons-sur-Marne (dnes Châlons-en-Champagne), Laon, Noyon, Senlis, Soissons, Thérouanne a Tournai. Katedrály těchto diecézí mají značný význam pro osudy rané a vrcholné gotiky. Jejich katedrální huti představovaly jakousi laboratoř nápadů a tvůrčích řešení toho, co bylo v Německu ve 13. století označeno jako opus francigenum, což bychom volně přeložili jako francouzské umění. Speciální pozornost je v knize věnována katedrále v Amiensu, jedné z největších gotických staveb ve Francii, a Matyášovi z Arrasu, prvnímu stavitele katedrály sv. Víta, Václava a Vojtěcha na Pražském hradě.
Texty historika umění Petra Kováče doplňují studie nejvýznamnějších znalců evropského umění 12. a 13. století z České republiky, Francie, Německa a USA. Kniha obsahuje také antologii středověkých dokumentů, které se týkají stavební a umělecké praxe. Doplňkem je významná esej francouzského spisovatele Marcela Prousta Smrt katedrál. Fotografie v knize vznikly během studijních cest autora po Belgii, Francii, Itálii, Německu, Španělsku a Velké Británii. Šestý svazek završuje sérii Stavitelé katedrál. Všechny díly mají dohromady téměř 3500 stran a více než 3000 původních fotografií. Svými studiemi a články do nich přispělo 39 renomovaných historiků umění z devíti zemí světa.
„Do šesti dílů vydavatelské série Stavitelé katedrál historik umění Peter Kováč soustředil základní poznatky o Francii a Itálii jako o dvou velkých tvůrčích centrech latinské Evropy, která utvářela její uměleckou tvář v období 12. a 13. století, jež bylo pro dějiny tohoto kontinentu přelomové.
