A Social History of Analytic Philosophy
Analytic philosophy is the leading form of philosophy in the English-speaking world. What explains its continued success? Christoph Schuringa argues that its enduring power can only be understood by examining its social history. Analytic philosophy tends to think of itself as concerned with eternal questions, transcending the changing scenes of history. It thinks of itself as apolitical. This book, however, convincingly shows that the opposite is true.
The origins of analytic philosophy are in a set of distinct movements, shaped by high-ly specific sets of political and social forces. Only after the Second World War were these disparate, often dynamic movements joined together to make 'analytic philosophy' as we know it. In the climate of McCarthyism, analytic philosophy was robbed of political force.
To this day, analytic philosophy is the ideology of the status quo. It may seem arcane and largely removed from the real world, but it is a crucial component in upholding liberalism, through its central role in elite educational institutions. As Schuringa concludes, the apparently increasing friendliness of analytic philosophers to rival approaches in philosophy should be understood as a form of colonization; thanks to its hegemonic status, it reformats all it touches in service of its own imperatives, going so far as to colonize decolonial efforts in the discipline.

Wollstonecraft

After the Death of God
A fresh history of nineteenth-century philosophy’s many ideas about secularization. The secularization thesis, which held that religious belief would gradually yield to rationality, has been thoroughly debunked. What, then, can we learn from philosophers for whom the death of God seemed so imminent? In this book, Espen Hammer offers a sweeping analysis of secularization in nineteenth-century German philosophy, arguing that the persistence of religion (rather than its absence) animated this tradition. Hydrojustice
This is a book about justice, but not as we know it. Andreas Philippopoulos-Mihalopoulos argues that justice is always hydrojustice – that is, always defined in relation to water, the element that constitutes and unites all bodies, human and nonhuman. Hence justice is not an ideal state reached through merely human procedures (legal, political, economic, etc.) but also a planetary one, always conjoined with the element of water that both constitutes and transcends the boundaries of the human. In short, hydrojustice is the just confluence of all bodies, human and nonhuman. For the first time, this book brings questions of justice into line with the current literature on water. Up to now, justice has been understood as an anthropocentric affair, with most existing theories accepting and reinforcing the division between human and nonhuman. This book builds on feminism, ecology, posthumanism and the current Blue Turn in the humanities and social sciences, and puts questions of justice at their core. What the book proposes, however, is not simply an ecological concept of justice. Rather, through examples taken from current affairs, science and the art world, it attempts a radical recalibration of what justice is. The book argues that hydrojustice is already here, part of our planetary condition, but it requires unearthing, in the double sense of revealing what is hidden and allowing earth to cede priority to the aquatic.

Kant's Critique of Pure Reason and the Method of Metaphysics
In two often neglected passages of the Critique of Pure Reason, Kant submits that the Critique is a ''treatise'' or a ''doctrine of method''. These passages are puzzling because the Critique is only cursorily concerned with identifying adequate procedures of argument for philosophy. In this book, Gabriele Gava argues that these passages point out that the Critique is the doctrine of method of metaphysics. Doctrines of method have the task of showing that a given science is indeed a science because it possesses ''architectonic unity'' ? which happens when it realizes the ''idea'' of a science. According to Gava''s novel approach, the Critique establishes that metaphysics is capable of this unity, and his reading of the Critique from this perspective not only illuminates the central role of the Transcendental Doctrine of Method within it, but also clarifies the relationship between the different parts of the work.
Philosophy of Mathematics from the Pythagoreans to Euclid
This Element looks at the very beginning of the philosophy of mathematics in Western thought. It covers the first reflections on attempts to untie mathematics from its practical usage in administration, commerce, and land-surveying and discusses the first ideas to see mathematical structures as constituents underlying the physical world in the Pythagoreans. The first two sections focus on the epistemic status of mathematical knowledge in relation to philosophical knowledge and on the various ontological positions ancient Greek philosophers in early and classical times ascribe to mathematical objects – from independent and separate entities to mere abstractions and idealisations. Section 3 discusses the paradigmatic role mathematical deductions have played for philosophy, the role of mathematical diagrams, and mathematical methods of interest for philosophers. Section 4, finally, investigates a couple of individual concepts that are fundamental for both philosophy and mathematics, such as infinity.

Can shame become a source of political strength? Faced with injustice, growing inequality and systemic violence, we cry out in shame. We feel ashamed of obscene wealth amid wider deprivation. We feel ashamed of humanity for its ruthless and relentless exploitation of the earth. We feel ashamed of the racism and sexism that permeate society and our everyday lives.<br><br>This difficult emotion is not just sadness or a withdrawal into oneself, nor is it a paralysing sense of inadequacy. Keď k tomu pridáme postpandemickú destabilizáciu vzťahov, rastúce technicko-ekonomické tlaky, a všeobecnú existenčnú neistotu a úzkosť, výsledkom je skutočne veľmi výbušná zmes. Napriek všetkému hnevu, frustrácii a rastúcej polarizácii však máme dôvod na nádej. Cesta vpred sa začína uzdravením progresívnej kultúrnej špičky a vytvorením priestoru pre novú integrálnu evolučnú silu, ktorých spoločné pôsobenie nás môže vyviesť z chaosu, k väčšej celistvosti.
