Florine Stettheimer
This first full biography confirms Florine Stettheimer as one of the 20th century's most significant, progressive artists whose work remains highly relevant today. Stettheimer was a feminist, multi-media artist who painted several sexually explicit, political, identity-issue-based works and documented New York City's growth as the centre of cultural life, finance, and entertainment between the World Wars.
During her first 40 years in Europe, Florine Stettheimer studied academic painting and was aware of all the earliest modernist styles prior to most American artists. Returning to New York, she and her sisters led an acclaimed Salon for major avant-garde cultural figures including Duchamp, the Stieglitz circle, poets, dancers, writers, etc. During her life she showed her innovative paintings in over 46 of the most important museum exhibits and Salons, wrote poetry, designed unique furniture and gained international fame for her sets and costumes for the avant-garde opera, 4 Saints in 3 Acts.

Kniha Umění z NDR. Dědictví na obtíž? je vůbec první publikací v českém jazyce, která se zabývá výtvarným uměním někdejší Německé demokratické republiky. Ačkoli existence tohoto státu trvala jen čtyři desetiletí, jeho výtvarné dědictví vstoupilo do zcela nové etapy po znovusjednocení Německa. Editor Matěj Forejt (nar. 1993) proto publikaci nesestavil jako přehled uzavřených dějin, ale zaměřil se naopak na témata a příběhy překračující geografické i časové hranice. Přibližuje je prostřednictvím dvanácti textů celkem čtrnácti autorů a autorek. Proč po znovusjednocení Německa v roce 1990 vypukl dlouhotrvající spor o tvorbu umělců z bývalé NDR? Koho v 70. a 80. letech na Západě zajímalo umění z východního Německa a komu bylo trnem v oku? Co se dělo na ilegální galerijní scéně východního Německa? Jak malíře Gerharda Richtera ovlivnilo studium v NDR? Kde je v současném německém malířství ukrytý odkaz socialistického realismu? Odpovědi na tyto a další otázky jsou nejen vhledem do poválečné (východo)německé kultury, ale mohou sloužit i jako inspirace při přemýšlení o umění z ostatních zemí bývalého východního bloku.

Jádro svazku tvoří kritická edice sbírky chrámových árií Hymnodia divina vydané jako opus 3 v Praze roku 1719 a tvořící pozoruhodný pandán k Brentnerově první sbírce árií z roku 1716. Svazek dále obsahuje árii a tři sólová moteta zkomponovaná později a známá pouze z rukopisných pramenů. Skladby představují cenný materiál pro zkoumání hudební tvořivosti v barokních Čechách, umožňují sledovat skladatelův tvůrčí vývoj a odrážejí rovněž jeho reakci na proměnu hudebního paradigmatu v druhé a třetí dekádě 18. století. Zároveň se jedná o kvalitní a invenční kompozice, které budily pozornost ve své době a mají potenciál oslovovat hudebníky a posluchače i dnes. Obsahuje předmluvu, notový text, kritickou zprávu, ediční aparát a překlady zpěvních textů.

Forever Saul Leiter
A new collection of Saul Leiter's work, much of it published here for the first time.
Saul Leiter remained relatively unsung until he was rediscovered by curators and critics in his early 80s, and his work has been drastically re-evaluated over the last two decades. Leiter's painterly images evoked the flow and rhythm of life on the mid-century streets of New York in luminous colour, at a time when his contemporaries were shooting in black and white. His complex and impressionistic photographs are as much about evoking an atmosphere as nailing the decisive moment.
In recent years, Leiter has been in the spotlight more and more with a series of exhibitions and publications. His studio in New York's East Village, where he had lived since 1952 until his death in 2013, is now the home of the Saul Leiter Foundation. The foundation has begun a full-scale survey and organization of his more than 80,000 works, with the aim of compiling the 'complete' archive. This volume contains works discovered through this process, valuable documents that reveal the secrets of Saul Leiter's creation, unpublished works, popular colour works and black-and-white works that have not been published so far, as well as works that trace the memories of those closest to him taken in private.
