Karl Blossfeldt: Masterworks
Karl Blossfeldt (1865–1932) was a great pioneer of botanical photography, yet he was neither a professional photographer nor a botanist. A professor at the Academy of Applied Arts in Berlin, he was a sculptor and amateur photographer, and his interest in the plant world was originally educational. Fascinated by the structure of plants, whose apparently artistic forms were created by biological expediency, he realized that photography could be a useful teaching tool, allowing his students to see and compare many natural forms. Blossfeldt worked with a homemade camera and gathered and photographed his own plant samples, magnifying them by up to 45 times. From around 1898 onwards, he shot some 6,000 images, which he used primarily as visual aids in his classes. Eventually published as Art Forms in Nature (1928) and Art Forms in Nature, Second Series (1932), his photographs had a lasting impact on the art of his day and were enthusiastically embraced by both the Surrealists and the New Objectivity movement. His books brought him overnight fame and are still considered landmarks in the history of art and photography. This volume brings together a remarkable collection of Blossfeldt’s strikingly austere yet poetic portraits of plants, capturing their timeless beauty in intimate detail.
Písnička jako dárek + CD
Zpěvník Písnička jako dárek je poslední knihou Pavla Jurkoviče, kterou rozpracoval, ale za svého života ji už nestihl vydat. Obsahuje celkem třicet písniček s texty nejrůznějších autorů a Jurkovičovou hudbou doplněnou o notové zápisy. Písničky jsou určené zejména dětem z mateřských škol a jsou vhodné jako dárek maminkám, tatínkům, prarodičům, ke zpívání na besídkách a vystoupeních. Kniha „Dělat okna tam, kde dříve byly zdi“ se věnuje současné evropské figurativní malbě ze sbírky předního českého sběratele Roberta Runtáka. Bresson o Bressonovi
Francouzský režisér Robert Bresson (1901–1999), svými životopisnými daty zajímavě a tak trochu příznačně vyplňujícími celé 20. století, patří mezi solitérní tvůrce světového filmu, který si i přes své dlouhé tvůrčí období čtyř dekád dokázal zachovat naprosto specifický tvůrčí styl, v podstatě nepoznamenaný žádnou z dominantních tvůrčích vln či škol. Ve všech filmech natočených od 2. světové války až do 80. let (např. Deník venkovského faráře, K smrti odsouzený uprchl, Peníze) si udržel svůj nezaměnitelný přístup k filmovému vyprávění či herectví a dále ho formoval a precizoval dílo po díle, a to za použití úsporných vyjadřovacích prostředků. Podobně úsporně i on sám formuloval své názory na filmové dílo; jediný ucelený soubor jeho filmového myšlení je stostránkový spisek "Poznámky o kinematografu" (1975, česky vyšlo 1998), opět plný krátkých úsečných noticek zapisovaných v průběhu čtvrtstoletí. Teprve roku 2013 vznikla další kniha, která se snaží v uceleném souboru nechat promluvit tohoto tvůrce o svém díle. Péčí jeho vdovy Mylene Bressonové vyšel soubor jeho rozhovorů z dlouhého údobí let 1943 až 1983, který je řazen chronologicky, film po filmu. Právě tento diachronní postup umožňuje sledovat vývoj Bressonova stylu, jeho uvažování o kinematografu. Tuto linii podporuje i zařazení interview, jejichž přímým popudem nebylo obvyklé představení nového snímku uváděného do kin, ale spíše zamyšlením nad určitým tématem či motivem (např. adaptace literárních děl), což dále prohlubuje poznání o směřování jeho úvah v tom kterém období. Tím se z tříště porůznu vzniklých rozhovorů stává celkem plnohodnotný profil tvůrce, který jinak o svém díle spíše mlčel.
Gauguin
Destination exoticPaul Gauguin's Pacific visions radiate with color and sunshine Paul Gauguin (1848-1903) was not cut out for finance. Nor did he last particularly long in the French Navy, or as a tarpaulin salesman in Copenhagen who did not speak Danish. He began painting in his spare time in 1873 and in 1876 took part in the Paris Salon. Three years later, he was exhibiting alongside Pissarro, Degas, and Monet. A querulous, hard-drinking individual, Gauguin often called himself a savage. His close but fraught friendship with the similarly temperamental Vincent van Gogh climaxed in a violent incident in 1888, when Van Gogh purportedly confronted Gauguin with a razor blade, and later cut off his own ear. Shortly afterwards, following the completion of a midcareer masterpiece Vision After the Sermon (1888), Gauguin took himself to Tahiti, with the intention of escaping "everything that is artificial and conventional..." On Tahiti, Gauguin's unfettered joy in the island's nature, native people, and figurative images leapt over a prolific output of paintings and prints. In works such as Woman with a Flower (Vahine no te Tiare, 1891) and Sacred Spring: Sweet Dreams (Nave Nave Moe, 1894), he developed a distinct, Primitivist style that positively oozed with sunshine and color. In the tradition of exotic sensuality, his thick, buttery lashings of paint lingered in particular over the curves of Tahitian women. Gauguin died alone, on Tahiti's neighboring Marquesas Islands, with many of his personal papers and belongings dispersed in a local auction. It was not until a smart art dealer began curating and showing Gauguin's work in Paris that the artist's profound influence began making itself felt, especially to the new breed of French avant-garde artists, such as Picasso and Matisse. Technika môjho hudobného jazyka
Slovenskej hudobnej obci predkladáme kľúčové teoretické dielo skladateľa Oliviera Messiaena Technique de mon langage musical. Technika môjho hudobného jazyka je dielom 33-ročného Messiaena (dokončil ju v lete 1942 a tlačou vyšla o dva roky neskôr). Pokrýva preto len necelú tretinu skladateľovho odkazu a celkom prirodzene v nej absentujú tie charakteristické prvky, ktoré sa v jeho hudobnom jazyku vykryštalizovali až neskôr. Skladateľove najhranejšie diela (L’Ascension, La Nativité du Seigneur, Quatuor pour la fin du Temps, Visions de l’Amen, Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant Jésus, Turangalîla-Symphonie a i.) však pochádzajú práve z 30. a 40. rokov, čiže z obdobia, ktoré Technika môjho hudobného jazyka pokrýva viac než uspokojivo. Dúfame, že slovenský preklad Techniky poslúži skladateľom a interpretom nielen ako kľúč k pochopeniu Messiaenovho hudobného jazyka, ale prispeje i k hlbšiemu poznaniu autorovho jedinečného postavenia v hudobných dejinách 20. storočia.
