Jánošík a 100 rokov slovenskej filmovej kultúry
Súbor textov venovaných prvému slovenského hranému filmu, ako aj opakovaným návratom k téme Jánošíka v priebehu celých dejín slovenskej kinematografie, vydaný pri príležitosti 100. výročia jej vzniku.
Na publikácii sa podieľalo spolu jedenásť autorov, okrem Renáty Šmatlákovej, autorky hlavnej historickej štúdie, to boli Juraj Oniščenko, Milan Lasica, Hana Hlôšková, Stanislav Štepka, Peter Maráky, Marian Čengel Solčanská, Eva Borušovičová, Petra Hanáková, Juraj Malíček a Martin Šmatlák.

Brněnská secese vyrostla v mnohotvárný a současně celistvý fenomén doby. Objevná poznání jednotlivých uměleckých disciplin tvoří celek překvapivé obsažnosti a výtvarné síly. Jakoby navzájem souzněly verše Neumannovy Knihy lesů vod a strání s geniální hudbou Leoše Janáčka a zářivou barevností obrazů Joži Úprky. Mají společnou schopnost hlubokého poznání přírody, země, krajiny a lidí. Architektura je přirozenou součástí hnutí i samostatnou tvůrčí silou, která vytvořila příznivé prostředí a spolehlivý rámec doby a její kultury. Svým výtvarným úsilím a charakteristickým stylem směřovala secese k nalezení výrazové jistoty a vytvoření slohu jako hodnověrné formy kultury společnosti. F. X. Šalda ve stati Nová krása z roku 1903 označil secesi jako nejvyšší kulturní hodnotu. Jako jednotuumění a života, která je výrazem nutnosti a nikoliv spekulací.
Dne 28. 7. 1914 se lidé probudili do děsivého rána. Rakousko-Uhersko se ocitlo uprostřed rozsáhlého válečného konfliktu, který ničil hodnoty dosavadní společnosti. Secese, založená na ušlechtilých principech se ocitla na hraně závratně probíhajícího rozpadu společenského a kulturního. Teprve po čtyřech letech válečného běsnění přišel nový začátek, založený však na odlišných základech nové vývojové epochy.

Jde o historii divadla zpracovanou sezonu po sezoně. Je v ní zahrnuto co možná nejvíce zajímavých informací za 55 let jeho působení. Unikátní jsou autentické vzpomínky, které herci poskytli autorovi v průběhu posledních dvou let. Knihu doplňuje řada dobových, dosud nepublikovaných, fotografií a zajímavých dokumentů.
Dá se s nadsázkou říci, že jde o neobjevenou truhlu se spisy o historii DJC, které se jen velmi těžko hledají v takto ucelené podobě.

Themes and motifs across the influential career of the great Swiss sculptor, from Surrealism to the iconic, etiolated figures of the postwar era
This catalog for a retrospective of the work of the sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti (1901-66) appraises all of the artist's periods and mediums, from sculpture (plaster, bronze) to painting, drawings and prints, and from early works of the Surrealist period, to his return to figuration, his work from models and the creation of the great postwar sculptures for which he is legendary.
Giacometti's oeuvre is divided into 14 sections exploring the themes favored by the artist, such as the representation of the head, the face or the female body. The book is punctuated by seven essays written by leading art historians who address the preoccupations that mark Giacometti's creative process, while also dwelling on his experiences of loneliness and melancholy, and his work with his models--his wife Annette, his brother Diego and his close friends.

Bruce W. Talamon- Soul R&B Funk
Talamon saw it all during the golden age of soul, R&B, and funk. Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, this young African American photographer from Los Angeles found himself backstage with an all-access pass to the heart of the music scene. He caught his first big break landing a position as a staff photographer at SOUL Newspaper in LA in the early 1970s, just as soul, R&B, and funk were becoming part of the mainstream. He captured the rehearsals and sound checks, recording sessions and costume fittings, the quiet reflective moments and life on the road, and, of course, the wild photo shoots and memorable performances. These photographs define an era famed for its glamour, fabulous fashions, and utter devotion to the groove.
Including close to 300 photographs from 1972 to 1982, the extensive Talamon archives are presented in full detail for the first time. Whether you're a diehard soul fan or a thrilled newcomer to the aesthetic magic of the 1970s, the collection exudes the infectious spirit of an exuberant age. Since the dawn of modernism, visual and music production have had a particularly intimate relationship. From Luigi Russolo's 1913 Futurist manifesto L'Arte dei Rumori (The Art of Noise) to Marcel Duchamp's 1925 double-sided discs Rotoreliefs, the 20th century saw ever more fertile exchange between sounds and shapes, marks and melodies, and different fields of composition and performance.
In Francesco Spampinato's unique anthology of artists' record covers, we discover the rhythm of this particular cultural history. The book presents 450 covers and records by visual artists from the 1950s through to today, exploring how modernism, Pop Art, Conceptual Art, postmodernism, and various forms of contemporary art practice have all informed this collateral field of visual production and supported the mass distribution of music with defining imagery that swiftly and suggestively evokes an aural encounter.
Along the way, we find Jean-Michel Basquiat's urban hieroglyphs for his own Tartown record label, Banksy's stenciled graffiti for Blur, and a skewered Salvador Dali butterfly on Jackie Gleason's Lonesome Echo. Quentin Blake, like many illustrators, works essentially in isolation. In normal times he would make two daily trips to his office across the square from where he lives to see what business there was for him to deal with. But during the lockdowns he had no such distractions and demands made of his time. There was still some commissioned works; he finished two books and he did some work for charities raising funds to deal with the lockdowns. But Quentin had a lot more time to explore his visual interests and go wherever his imagination took him.
Some of these series were drawn at 6.00 am while he was still in bed. The medium he used for each series was partly decided by whatever was to hand; pencil, biro or Sennelier oil pastels. Similarly, the size, colour and quality of the paper would be decided by what was available.
This book is an edited selection of over 3,000 drawings Quentin produced from March 2020 to February 2021; a portfolio of new personal work, not commissioned and not meant for publication. They provide a unique insight into what happens when a great artist is left to his own devices.

Since the introduction of portable consumer electronics nearly a half century ago, artists throughout the world have adapted their latest technologies to art-making. This first-hand account by the curator who has been following video art from its beginnings in the late 1960s, when artists first adapted portable consumer technology to art-making, spotlights video's ongoing importance in the art world, tracing the genre's development alongside the advances in technology that have continued to open up new possibilities for artists. London has worked closely and personally with the artists she writes about, who span generations, including Joan Jonas, Nam June Paik, Bill Viola, Shirin Neshat, Pipilotti Rist, Miranda July, Ragnar Kjartansson, and Ian Cheng. The text is both art-historical and personal - weaving together background information and insightful interpretations with unique anecdotes and experiences to trace the history of video art as it transformed into the broader field of media art - from analog to digital, small TV monitors to wall-scale projections, and clunky hardware to user-friendly software. Kengo Kuma: Complete Works 1988-Today
After Tadao Ando, Toyo Ito, and Fumihiko Maki, Kengo Kuma has breathed renewed vigor and lightness into Japanese architecture. Departing from the modernist skyscraper of the 20th century, Kuma traveled through his native Japan to develop a truly sustainable approach, translating local craftsmanship and resources into site-specific, timely buildings. Informed by tradition, and with both feet firmly planted in the present, this "materialist" heralds a new tactile architecture marked by its engaging surfaces, innovative structures, and fluid forms, reconnecting people with the physicality of a house. Kuma's objective, above all else, is "just to respect the culture and environment of the place where I am working."
To this end, Kuma shaped the China Academy of Art's Folk Art Museum partially from discarded roof tiles; created a Chapel out of birch and moss in Nagano; and worked with local craftsmen to sculpt the V&A Dundee into a twisted, layered reflection of the Scottish coastal cliffs. With an extraordinary sensitivity for space, light, and texture, Kuma reveals unexpected qualities in materials, finding the weightlessness of stone in Chokkura Plaza and the softness of aluminum in the thatched roof of the Yangcheng Lake Tourist Transportation Center.
More recently, the architect brought his philosophy to the Japan National Stadium built for the Olympic Games, originally planned for 2020. Kuma has said the stadium could be "the catalyst that will transform Tokyo back from a concrete city. I want it to set an example that will help alter the direction of Japanese architectural design."
In this XXL-sized monograph with some 500 illustrations spanning photographs, sketches, and plans, Kuma guides us through his entire career to date, detailing milestone projects as well as ongoing works.
