Česko-anglická monografie mapuje Žídkovu činnost od počátečních prací v Ústí nad Labem a Činoherním klubu přes období spolupráce s režisérem Janem Grossmanem s stěžejních inscenacích Divadla Na zábradlí až po jeho nedávnou činnost v Divadle Viola. Ivo Žídek Ivo Žídek se narodil v roce 1948, studoval scénografii na pražské DAMU u profesora Františka Tröstera, poté na UMPRUM v ateliéru architektury Josefa Svobody. V letech 1979 1984 působil ve Státním divadle Z. Nejedlého v Ústí nad Labem, Činoherním klubu. Zde prožil jeho významnou éru, kdy se toto malé divadlo dostalo do centra zájmu pro svoji odvážnou dramaturgii, režii a pozoruhodný soubor mladých talentovaných herců. Navázal úzkou spolupráci s režisérem Ivanem Rajmontem a kostýmní výtvarnicí Irenou Greifovou (inscenace Goldoniáda, Dobové tance, Obrazy z dějin, Zojčin byt, Heda Gablerová a další). V karlínském Hudebním divadle našel dalšího trvalého režijního partnera Petra Novotného (Cikáni jdou do nebe, Někdo to rád horké, My Fair Lady ad.). Ivan Rajmont ho přivedl koncem 80. let do Divadla Na zábradlí v Praze (Tatarská pouť, Caligula), v období let 1989 1993 zde spolupracoval s režisérem Janem Grossmanem na stěžejních inscenacích této éry (Don Juan, Largo desolato, Pokoušení). V letech 1990 1994 byl stálým scénografem v Národním divadle v Praze, zde pracoval především v týmu s I. Rajmontem a M. Krobotem. V roce 1989 se setkal s režisérkou Lídou Engelovou; převážně spolupracovali na francouzských komediích, dodnes spolu tvoří komorní inscenace v pražském Divadle Viola.
Bond

Henri Cartier-Bresson: Photographer
Reproduced in exquisite black and white, the images in this book range from Henri Cartier-Bresson's earliest work in France, Spain, and Mexico through his postwar travels in Asia, the US, and Russia, and even include landscapes from the 1970s, when he retired his camera to pursue drawing. While his instinct for capturing what he called the decisive moments was unparalleled, as a photojournalist Cartier-Bresson was uniquely concerned with the human impact of historic events. In his photographs of the liberation of France from the Nazis, the death of Gandhi, and the creation of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Cartier-Bresson focused on the reactions of the crowds rather than the subjects of the events.

Alfred Brendel (5. ledna 1931) je rakousko-britský klavirísta, básník a spisovatel. Bývá považován za jednoho z největších pianistů všech dob. Narodil se v Loučné nad Desnou v okrese Šumperk v rodině nehudebníků. Do svých šesti let žil v Československu, poté se rodina odstěhovala do Záhřebu v Jugoslávii a pak do rakouského Štýrského Hradce. Na hodiny klavíru začal docházet v šesti letech. Pak studoval na konzervatoři ve Štýrském Hradci u profesorky Ludoviky von Kaanové a kompozici u Artura Michela. Studia dokončil u rakouského klavíristy a skladatele Eduarda Steuermanna, a zejména absolvováním mistrovských kurzů švýcarského pianisty a dirigenta Edwina Fischera. Brendel poprvé veřejně koncertoval ve Štýrském Hradci, když mu bylo sedmnáct.

Lartigue
As a little boy of seven or eight, Jacques Henri Lartigue was given his first camera, and soon was developing his own photographs. Born into a prosperous family, from childhood Lartigue acutely observed the social rituals of the upper echelons of society through his photography. The hand-held Kodak camera, first introduced in 1888, granted the young photographer flexibility to capture the fine details of eccentric family members at home, the elaborate social parade in the Bois de Boulogne, on the beach in Normandy and beyond. Classic images of motor cars and high fashion sit alongside previously unpublished photographs from the Lartigue archive. These images of family beau-monde and demi-monde life are not only evidence of a prodigious talent, but also offer an intimate, adolescent perspective of Belle-Epoque Paris, the world of Proust, Debussy and the Nabis, before the outbreak of the First World War.
At a young age Lartigue mastered the medium of photography: this exploration of his extraordinary childhood is interwoven with a social and cultural portrait of the Belle Epoque. Bonnard and Vuillard used the camera as a reference point for painting, Eugene Atget documented the architecture of the old Paris ahead of its developers, but Lartigue was the first to harness the immediacy of the snapshot, often capturing his subjects mid-gesture as in real life, creating a new visual language for the 20th century.

Throughout her 20-year career, Neri Oxman has invented not only new ideas for materials, buildings and construction processes, but also new frameworks for interdisciplinary--and interspecies--collaborations. She coined the term "material ecology" to describe her process of producing techniques and objects informed by the structural, systemic and aesthetic wisdom of nature, from the shells of crustaceans to the flow of human breathing. Groundbreaking for its solid technological and scientific basis, its rigorous and daring experimentation, its visionary philosophy and its unquestionable attention to formal elegance, Oxman's work operates at the intersection of biology, engineering, architecture and artistic design, material science and computer science. This book--designed by Irma Boom and published to accompany a midcareer retrospective of Oxman's work--highlights the interdisciplinary nature of the designer's practice. It demonstrates how Oxman's contributions allow us to question and redefine the idea of modernism--a concept in constant evolution--and of organic design. Some of the projects featured in the book and exhibition include the Silk Pavilion, which harnesses silkworms' ability to generate a 3-D cocoon out of a single thread silk in order to create architectural constructions; Aguahoja, a water-based fabrication platform that prints structures made out of different biopolymers; and Glass, an additive manufacturing technology for 3-D printing optically transparent glass structures at architectural dimensions. Fotografické obrazy cestovatelů přelomu 19. a 20. století
Fotografie byla od počátku využívána cestovateli jako v porovnání s do té doby rozšířenými kresbami objektivní médium k zaznamenání vzdálených objektů a míst. Už v roce jejího vynálezu (1839) zachytili francouzští cestovatelé pomocí daguerrotypie egyptskou sfingu. Mezi českými cestovateli se nová technologie ujímala pomaleji, ve druhé polovině 19. století spíše nakupovali suvenýrové fotografie jako pomůcky pro své přednášky. Prvním doloženým českým cestovatelem-fotografem v mimoevropských zemích byl až v 80. letech 19. století Enrique Stanko Vráz. Publikace přináší jeho podrobný profil a profily dalších sedmi českých cestovatelů a vědců (Alois Musil, Vojtěch Suk, Alberto Vojtěch Frič a další), kteří byli zároveň fotografy a po nichž mnohdy zůstaly bohaté sbírky fotografického materiálu. Ve druhé části knihy se autoři zaměřují na technologii restaurování a analýzu archivních cestovatelských fotografií a zařazen je také modelový příklad průzkumu fotografických sbírek, fondu díla cestovatele Jiřího Viktora Daneše.
Paul Verhoeven a jeho filmy
Kniha Zdeňka Hudce je vůbec první odbornou monografií věnovanou dílu zřejmě nejznámějšího nizozemského filmaře Paula Verhoevena, režiséra nemilosrdně otevřených společenskokritických snímků Turecký med či Sprej na vlasy či provokativních hollywoodských blockbusterů RoboCop či Základní instinkt. Publikace je rozdělena do dvou oddílů první představuje chronologicky filmovou kariéru tohoto filmového tvůrce od raných školních snímků přelomu 50. a 60. let přes vrcholnou nizozemskou etapu 70. let a střídavé úspěchy jeho hollywoodské éry 80 a 90. let až po jeho návrat do Evropy k artověji pojaté produkci. V druhé části knihy se autor věnuje vybraným tématům typickým pro Verhoevenovu (nejen) filmovou tvorbu postava Ježíše Krista a náboženství, sex a násilí, nakládání s realitou a fikcí, vztah k dějinám a politické sdělení. Tyto analytické kapitoly jsou proloženy bohatým ilustračním materiálem, který demonstruje autorský výklad. Kniha je také opatřena ucelenou filmografií a bibliografií.
Rene Burri - Explosions of Sight
Swiss photographer Rene Burri (1933-2014) has been wherever history had been played out. A member of the famous Magnum Photos cooperative since 1955, he photographed in the Middle East in the 1950s and 1960s, recording the Six-Days and Yom Kippur Wars, as well as the Vietnam War during the 1960s. His many travels took him to Japan and China, across Europe and the Americas to report sharply many of the 20th century's major events. His extraordinary sense for people and their personalities helped him create portraits of celebrities such as architects Le Corbusier, Oscar Niemeyer, and Luis Barragan; or artists Alberto Giacometti, Pablo Picasso, and Jean Tinguely. His iconic picture of Che Guevara with cigar, shot in 1963, is one of the world's most famous and widely reproduced photographic portraits ever.
Burri had a close relationship with Lausanne's Musee de l' Elysee and in 1987 the museum staged a first exhibition of his work, entitled The Ruins of the Future, followed by his first major retrospective in 2004. The museum also hosts the Fondation Rene Burri, which the artist established in 2013 as a home for his estate.
Published to coincide with a new exhibition at Musee de l'Elysee in spring 2020, Rene Burri: An Eye Explosion draws from this vast collection. It brings together for the first time Burri's entire body of work, photographic and non-photographic. Black-and-white and colour photographs feature alongside previously unpublished archival documents as well as book designs, exhibition projects, travel diaries, collages, watercolours, and other multiple objects he collected.
