Decadence and Dark Dreams: Belgian Symbolism
Sensuousness, magic, a profound momentousness and irrationality are the hallmarks of the new art movement of Belgian Symbolism, which emerged during the 1880s. From Georg Minne and Fe licien Rops to Fernand Khnopff and James Ensor, the portraits, figure paintings and landscapes revealed a fascination with the eerie and the nefarious, with Thanatos und Eros. The remarkable feature of Belgian Symbolism is its predilection for the morbid and the bizarre.
Death and decay became leitmotifs in art. In around 1900, artists tried to link a new mysticism with an extravagant and precious style. The central figure in this context was the femme fatale as an expression of excess and lust, often paired with echoes of the esoteric and the demonic.
Many stimuli for European Symbolism had their origins in Belgium. This wide-ranging and lavishly illustrated volume examines this phenomenon.

Zásah policejních složek proti demonstrantům 17. listopadu 1989 se odehrál přímo pod okny Národního divadla, které se tak - pokolikáté už v dějinách! - symbolicky stalo očitým svědkem počátku společenských změn v celé zemi. Kniha Zpětné zakreslení cesty, v níž vyprávíme příběh Činohry Národního divadla od konce roku 1989 až do roku 2015, sleduje, jak se společenské události promítaly do divadelního organismu a jevištního díla. Dynamická doba zahrnovala proces otevření hranic, majetkové restituce, znovuotevření otázky vztahu Čechů a Němců, privatizace, vyrovnání s totalitami, rehabilitace umlčených umělců, návraty z emigrace, rozdělení Československa, finanční krize, politické aféry a pády vlád, vstup do Evropské unie. Politické dění v zemi bylo provázeno debatou o smyslu a významu Národního divadla v proudu globálních změn. Působení tří polistopadových šéfů Činohry ND, Ivana Rajmonta, Josefa Kovalčuka a Michala Dočekala, je příběhem hledání odpovědí na otázku "čím je národu Národní divadlo" tak, jak se vyvíjela během 25 let svobodné společnosti. Činohra ovšem proměňuje i styl, poetiku, nástroje a prostředky uměleckého výrazu. Sledujeme nástup nových herců a režisérů a hledání tvaru, který by spojil do inscenačního celku výrazné projevy osobností s rozličným dosavadním zázemím. Režiséři, kteří přišli z divadel, jež byla doposud s publikem ve spikleneckém vztahu, hledají způsob, jak oslovit diváky oficiální scény; s tímto procesem úzce souvisí i úsilí o vznik současných dramatických textů. Průběžným hlasem, který zní za uměleckým usilováním, je hlas kritiky, v němž zaznívají jak splněná i zklamaná očekávání publika, tak i promyšlené interpretace inscenací. Kritický vícehlas je ale také hlasem médií a společenských nálad.

Žádné jiné divadlo v zemi takový závazek nenese, ale žádné jiné také k jeho splnění nemá takové podmínky jako Národní divadlo v Praze. Warhol
Andy Warhol je hlavný predstaviteľ popartového hnutia. Ako kreatívny a kritický pozorovateľ americkej spoločnosti dokázal stvárniť aktuálne témy, ako sú spotreba, materializmus, médiá a celebrity. Venoval sa reklame, komiksom, potlači predmetov bežnej spotreby, portrétoval najslávnejšie tváre Hollywoodu, a tým všetkým prispel k radikálnemu prehodnoteniu toho, čo je a čo nie je umelecké dielo. Práve vďaka Warholovi sa plechovka Campbellovej polievky a fľaša Coca-Coly stali objektami s rovnakou umeleckou hodnotou ako predmety na klasických zátišiach.
Spolu s tým Warhol radikálne zmenil vnímanie samotného umelca. Svojou slávnou vetou „chcem byť stroj“ dal najavo opovrhnutie voči konceptu autorstva. Pracoval metódami masovej produkcie, mal desiatky asistentov a svoje štúdio rád nazýval fabrikou. Táto kniha prináša pohľad do Warholovho rozsiahleho a pestrofarebného životného diela, ktoré do umenia vnieslo témy ako bývanie, výroba a konzum, a tak úplne prehodnotilo vnímanie „vysokého“ a „nízkeho“ umenia.

Katalog představuje dílo známého grafika a mj. autora českých bankovek, u příležitosti jeho nedožitých 80. narozenin. Ukazuje krystalizaci jeho apokalyptického realismu na pozadí dobové vizuality. Předkládá přednostně ta díla, která umělec zanechal ve svém ateliéru a váží se k období vymezenému 60. až 80. lety 20. století. V knize prezentovaný soubor mimo jiné ukáže, jak celou autorovou tvorbou prostupuje princip koláže a jak výrazně do ní zasáhla dobová reportážní a reklamní fotografie. K vidění jsou zde nejen známější grafiky (lepty a litografie), ale také kresby a soubor koláží, které byly vstupní branou do jeho umělecké praxe.

Anton Corbijn, born in 1955 in Strijen (NL), lives and works in The Hague (NL). Corbijn was born in the Netherlands, but lived and worked in London for 30 years. Paralely hudební a filmové řeči
Autor se ve své studii pokouší postihnout průniky a rozdíly jazyka hudby a filmu, vzájemné tvůrčí ovlivňování obou uměleckých forem a společné a rozdílné parametry hudebního i filmového vyjadřování. V závěru uvádí příklady z vlastní skladatelské tvorby, jejímž výsledkem často není pouze autonomní hudební či zvuková kompozice, ale mnohdy také vizuální útvar ať už se jedná o autorský film, prostorovou performanci, nebo zvukovou instalaci.
Makrosvět - plakáty a grafika
Sedmdesátiletý junior Ano, je to tak. Jan Rajlich v tomto roce slaví sedmdesátiny. Chtělo by se říci: v plné svěžesti tvůrčí, pedagogické a v řadě dalších činností, např. neúnavné organizační, dokumentační a Jak by také ne, když přídomek mladší, junior (jr.) mu zůstane už na celý život. Je to pochopitelně proto, že se již v opravdu mladém věku vydal na obdobnou profesní dráhu jako jeho otec, jehož sté výročí narození si v tomto roce také připomínáme a který se dožil úctyhodného věku devadesáti šesti let. Práce obou Rajlichů je sice dobře rozlišitelná, ale protože se léta oba současně účastnili řady mezinárodních bienále, trienále i spolkových výstav (SBB, Sdruženi Q) a uskutečnili i několik výstav společných ve dvojici či skupině více tvůrců rodu Rajlichů, pro brněnské J. R. se rozlišeni starší a mladší zcela přirozeně vžilo a je tak také uváděno v desítkách a stovkách katalogů a dokumentů. Říkejme tedy pro zjednodušení nadále mladšímu: Honza Vzpomínám si: za necelou desítku sezon jsme ve spolupráci s HaDivadlem Brno uspořádali jako Sdruženi Bienále Brno celou řadu výstav. Spolkových, autorských i tematických. Protože Honza byl vedle dalších aktivních, především brněnských, kolegů jedním z těch, kteří se na jejich přípravě pravidelně podíleli, není divu, že k některým navrhoval i propagaci. V té době působily v divadle také dvě mladé a milé ženy, které nám organizačně i jinak pomáhaly. Schylovalo se k vernisáži výstavy Novoročenky PF06!. Postával jsem s těmi dámami ve foyer před plakátem, který navrhl právě Honza. Plakát nese v tiráži údaj Design: Jan Rajlich, Jr. 2005. A děvčata ho komentovala: To je hezké, že váš spolek dává příležitost také dětem V tu chvíli po schodech přicházeli oba pánové Rajlichové a já jsem dívkám vysvětlil, že se musím jít pozdravit s panem Rajlichem starším a jeho (tehdy pětapadesátiletým) dítětem a smál jsem se. A ony se začaly překotně omlouvat. Nemusely objevily nebo jen správně vycítily jednu (velmi podstatnou) z vrstev, která se Honzovou výtvarnou prací vine jako jedna z jeho červených nití. Mám na mysli tu vrstvu, která si ve své mladistvé, někdy až bezstarostně dětské hravosti zachovává věčné mládí. Domníval jsem se, že touto vzpomínkou bych mohl svoji poznámku k Honzově práci vlastně zakončit, neboť jsem si téměř jist, že dalšími neméně důležitými vrstvami Honzových výtvarných prací (filozofii, humorem, formou, obsahem a technikami) se budou podrobněji i odborněji zabývat ostatní přispěvatelé této jubilejní knihy. Jenže teprve nedávno jsem měl možnost se poprvé po rocích naší známosti a spolupráce seznámit s ukázkami jeho rané i velmi rané tvorby. Odhlédnuto od několika dílek, která jsou vlastní snad většině dětí, obsahují tyto skicáky počáteční krajinářské záznamy, které se po celou dobu misí s portréty (převážně otce a dalších rodinných příslušníků, v dobách pozdějších pak budoucí nyní už řadu let současné manželky Aleny) a s kresbami, kde se to figurami a figurkami jen hemží, a to i když ony třeba leží. Podle používané techniky a materiálů jsou v nich rychle, jen jakoby psané záznamy tenkými či robustními tahy a jemnými či ostrými barevnými plochami a skvrnami. Vedle nich jsou ovšem zcela jasně vymezené kompozice, opět kreslené i malované, které svojí stavbou již nesou znaky zcela dokončených listů. (Při záznamech z cest je v jejich přesném vnímání prostoru už patrný odkaz k jeho pozdějším studiím architektury a designu.)

Hollywood legend John Malkovich may seem like an unlikely choice for an artist's muse, but American photographer Sandro Miller declares him "a photographer's dream." Miller (born 1958) has been finding inspiration in the Academy Award-nominated actor since the two first met in 1999. In their latest collaboration, Miller pays homage to the great photographers of past and present, with Malkovich as his sole model, in their recreations of 41 iconic portraits. The project is a testament to both Miller's skill as a photographer and Malkovich's chameleon-esque acting ability. With months of research in addition to accurate costumes and makeup application, Miller's recreations are delightfully exact in their lighting and editing, while Malkovich seems to easily inhabit the original subjects no matter who he is meant to portray. He appears as the titular migrant mother in Dorothea Lange's Depression-era portrait, as a bewigged Andy Warhol cast in crimson and as both sisters in Diane Arbus' infamous Identical Twins, Roselle, New Jersey, matching with himself in a wide-collared dress and lace stockings. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, Miller manages to breathe new life into some of the world's most recognizable images in this playful take on the history of photography's intersection with pop culture.
