Katedrála sv. Víta v Praze, Notre-Dame v Paříži, Votivní kostel ve Vídni či jiný majestátní chrám některé z evropských metropolí jsou pro většinu z nás ztělesněním opravdového středověku. Málokdo ví, že se ve skutečnosti často jedná o architekturu z 19. století nebo o budovy v tomto období zásadně přestavěné. Mountains
For sober thinking geologists, the formation of mountains (orogenesis) goes back to plate tectonics. The shifting of the continental plates causes mountains to form, erosion removes them again. Even the longest mountain range on earth was formed in this way: from Alaska to the Andes, the American Cordilleras form the eastern part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 452 volcanoes rise. And indeed, fire-spitting giants and bitterly cold worlds of ice are the main reasons for the fascination composed of fear and reverence that mountains exerted on early mankind. Mountain peaks were home to the oldest weather gods. In fact, mountains are meteorological divides and watersheds and determine the climate, and their diverse and unique vegetation zones are life-givers. Only hesitantly did people approach colossal holy mountains like the Annapurna in the Himalayas, the “Goddess of food and nourishment”. But curiosity won out, ice mummies in the Alps, Andes and Altai prove it: hunters, shepherds and priests were drawn early to these heavenly places. The highest archaeological site on earth is on Llullaillaco (6,739 m/22,109 ft): on the border between Argentina and Chile, the Incas were already building temples before 1500 AD.
The disenchantment of the peaks of the gods began around 1850 with the beginning of modern mountain sports. Today, almost all peaks from Aconcagua to the Zugspitze have been climbed, on the Eiger as well as on Everest the most difficult passages have been mastered thanks to experienced climbing skills. But the mountains have never lost their magnificent magic.

Despite an admiration for his mentors that never wavered, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867) forged his own unique style, a combination of virtuoso realism and strange distortions that was to make him one of the greatest painters of his century. Both highly praised and heavily criticized, this pupil of David and lover of the italian Renaissance, classical art and ideal beauty, was hugely admired as the saviour of traditional painting from the vagaries of the Romantics. But his work's fascination lay in his portraits and odalisques rather than his history paintings, and it is these that inspired some of the most avant-garde artists of t twentieth century.

This is the untold story of how two rebellious master watchmakers, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey, learned their craft, met, established a brand, and in a few years created some of the most astonishingly beautiful and mechanically sophisticated timepieces ever made. The two men met in early 1992 at Renaud et Papi, a hothouse of new watchmaking ideas in Le Locle in the Swiss Jura Mountains. They teamed up and launched Greubel Forsey in 2004 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, refusing to accept that everything had already been invented in watchmaking. Going against the grain, they focused their energy on uncompromising innovation and the most difficult elements of hand finishing, bringing back a level of excellence that would rival the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century masters.
Greubel and Forsey are responsible for many inventions that have advanced watchmaking expertise to new levels as well as creating thirty unique and original calibres since 2004.

Problém reprodukce či reprodukovatelnosti je kanonickým motivem úvah o fotografii a ztělesněním její hraniční povahy. Mezi nejvýznamnější příspěvky k této diskusi patří teoreticko-kurátorská koncepce „imaginárního muzea“ Andrého Malrauxe; její hlavní rysy shrnul v eseji vydané v roce 1947 a revidované v letech 1951 a 1965. Fotografická reprodukce se pro něj stává organizačním principem dějin světového umění, meta-médiem, umožňujícím transformaci obrazů v zájmu jejich porovnávání a uspořádávání. Fotografické imaginární muzeum tak lze zároveň chápat jako historický předvoj a předpoklad soudobých databází obrazů, určených ke strojovému zpracování. Český překlad Malrauxovy eseje doplňuje doslov Tomáše Dvořáka, který rozlišuje dva modely (chápání) rozmnožování obrazů: reprodukci originálu a sériovou výrobu.
Hokusai's Method
An omnibus edition collecting 15 volumes of Hokusai’s dedicated drawing manuals, ‘e-tehon’. Of the 300 or so printed books Hokusai created in his lifetime, a huge proportion of these were dedicated drawing manuals, known as e-tehon (drawing models). They show not only Hokusai’s great proficiency as a draughtsman, but also his wealth of ideas, and his sense of humour.
This omnibus edition collects 15 volumes of Hokusai's e-tehon, which feature over 800 illustrations of instructions from 1812 to 1848. With every page faithfully reproduced against the original works, the book shows Hokusai's playful approach to drawing with amusing songs, pictures comprised of letterforms (a forerunner to today’s emoji), modern designs for craftsmen, and, yes, dance moves. This all-encompassing endeavour also includes a valuable work that he published just before his death.

Jakmile se člověk stal člověkem, spatřilo světlo světa také umění. Už Homo erectus, zhruba před půl milionem let, vyryl do mušle specifické čáry – snad proto, aby ji ozvláštnil a zkrášlil. Od těch dob se „krásno“ neoddělitelně prolínalo s praktickým životem. Pravěcí lidé dovedně malovali na stěny svých jeskynních galerií zvířata, která toužili ulovit, a hnětli sošky kyprých žen, jaké by rádi viděli po svém boku. Z umění se postupně stala oslava touhy a krásy, následně oslava Boha či bohů, a později se objevila snaha co nejpřesněji zobrazovat realitu, kterou časem nahradilo zachycování umělcových pocitů.
Co tedy spojuje nástěnné malby v jeskyni Altamira a Guernicu Pabla Picassa? Obojí je umění a jejich tvůrci měli nějaký „um“. Svorně ovládli určitou dovednost, a to nad rámec řemesla. Umění je tedy něčím navíc. Staří Řekové věřili, že nejvyšší bůh Zeus zplodil devět múz. Každá z nich odpovídala za jinou oblast umění a každá dokázala vnuknout božskou inspiraci polibkem na čelo. Vyvolený kumštýř tím dostal jakou i božskou jiskru, kterou mohl předávat dál, a tím se nebeské dostávalo mezi smrtelníky.

Kritika a autonomie českého umění (1859–1892)
Chápání umělecké tvorby jako autonomní činnosti s vlastními pravidly a také kritérii hodnocení úspěchu se dnes zdá být takřka přirozené, jeho nesamozřejmost si uvědomujeme snad nejčastěji při soudních procesech vedených proti autorům děl s kontroverzním obsahem. Bývaly ovšem doby, kdy ani svět umění nebyl v pohledu na autonomii své produkce jednotný – primát estetična při hodnocení se musel prosadit ve spletitých diskusích nad konkrétními díly. Těžiště těchto negociací autoři knihy hledají v období počátků parlamentarismu na našem území, kdy rostoucí sebevědomí umělecké sféry vyjadřovala nejen samotná produkce, ale například i budování reprezentativních veřejných prostorů (pražské Národní divadlo, Rudolfinum). Mezioborový výzkum, inspirovaný sociologickým a literárněhistorickým studiem autonomizace umění francouzského (P. Bourdieu, M. Einfalt), je zaměřen na kritický ohlas literární, výtvarné a hudební produkce, která v letech 1859 až 1892 vzbuzovala otázky související se závazky tvůrců ke společnosti. Současně sleduje proměny samotné kritiky, která rostoucí míru autonomie reflektovala a ujasňovala si při tom vlastní vztahy k publiku a tvůrcům. Kolektivní monografie představuje výsledky zkoumání dobových periodik a dalších pramenů včetně archivních, které umožňují zachytit soudobou kritickou praxi v celé její šíři. Výklad je doplněn obrazovou přílohou prezentující kromě diskutovaných výtvarných děl také dobově typické formy propagace umělecké produkce.

V odborné literatuře se občas uvádí, že se v rozhlase za protektorátu vysílaly většinou inscenace německých her. Skutečnost je ovšem opačná. Za okupace se v rozhlase vytvořila patrně dodnes největší „laboratoř“ na takzvanou slovesnou tvorbu, v jejímž rámci vzniklo mnoho původních českých her s příznačnou tematikou, které byly záhy také nastudovány. Odhadovaný počet původních her je nejméně tři sta, přičemž tvůrci v mnoha inscenacích využívali i novátorské rozhlasové postupy. Protektorátní rozhlasová dramaturgie tedy nejen podněcovala autorskou tvorbu, jíž se snažila především podporovat národní sebevědomí, ale také usilovala o rozvoj dramatického rozhlasového diskurzu. Podobnou autonomizační situaci – ovšem na materiálu nedramatické literatury – popisuje například Pierre Bourdieu.
Monografie Lenky Jungmannové je věnována právě autonomizačnímu procesu původní české protektorátní rozhlasové hry. První část práce tvoří teoretická studie, která se věnuje fenoménům rozhlasové hry a inscenace. Druhou, historiografickou část vyplňují analýzy dochovaných původních dramat, které jsou nahlíženy v širším literárněvědném kontextu a strukturovány podle žánrových specifik. Poslední část knihy se soustředí na proces formování a existence rozhlasové hry v daném médiu, a to v rámci dobových kulturních a společenských podmínek.
