Z Chotěbořska do zahraniční armády 1939–1945
Kniha historika PhDr. Jiřího Plachého, Ph.D. z Vojenského historického ústavu v Praze primárně sleduje životní osudy 27 rodáků z předválečného politického okresu Chotěboř, kteří v letech 2. světové války sloužili v jednotkách československé zahraniční armády na Západě i na Východě. Dr. Luke Daly-Groves je historik působící na University of Manchester. Zabývá se především činností britských a amerických tajných služeb v poválečném Německu. Roku 2015 získal bakalářský titul s vyznamenáním na University of Central Lancashire a byl vyznamenán cenou Sydneye Leeho za historii. V roce 2016 obdržel na University of Leeds titul magistra s vyznamenáním. Jeho magisterská práce získala cenu Marion Sharplesové. Svoji disertační práci zabývající se angloamerickými rozvědkami v okupovaném Německu v letech 1945–1955 obhájil v roce 2020. Duben a květen 1945: Němečtí nacisté věděli, že již prohráli válku, ale ti nejzuřivější byli stále ochotni bojovat. V té době však již v Bavorsku, Sasku i v Čechách existovaly poměrně rozsáhlé vojensky málo zajištěné oblasti, které by mohly být bez odporu obsazeny. A 20. században Berlin egy megrengetett világ középpontja volt. Felváltva csábította és borzasztotta a nemzetközi képzeletet. A város lényegét extrém kettőssége adta: ragyogó sugárutak és lármás bérházak; a nehézipar sötét, füstös fellegvárai és a környező pompás vizek és erdők; az örömteli pánszexuális kabarék mellett az opera merev méltósága; a dadaista művészek színes túlkapásai... majd a horogkeresztes tömegfelvonulások zord egyformasága. Annak, aki 1900 körül született, és még megérte az 1960-70-es éveket, az élet a forradalmak, véres harcok véget nem érő sorozata volt; a zűrzavar és a bizonytalanság örvénye. Ez az időszak magában foglalta az első világháborút, a modern ipar szédítő rohamát és az azt tükröző, dacosan forradalmi építészetet; a letaglózó nyomort és éhezést hozó gazdasági mélyrepüléseket; a náci felsőbbrendűséget, a népirtás pszichózisát; majd a háború poklát a Berlinre és népére zúduló szovjet pusztítással és megtorlással; s végül a halálos berlini fallal a város szívét kettészakító, egymással versengő ideológiákat. És volt valami, ami nagyobb szenvedést okozott a bombáknál, a felismerhetetlenné roncsolt temetetlen holttesteknél, rombolóbb az öngyilkossági járványnál és súlyosabb a tömeges nemi erőszaknál is: az igazi trauma az volt, hogy a külvilág megértéssel viseltetett e kegyetlenségek iránt, mert a náci vezetés Európa-szerte millióknak okozott gyötrelmet és osztott halált. Az átélt rémálom, Berlin népének vezeklő hallgatása hosszú árnyékot vetett a város jövőjére.
