Anna Atkins - Cyanotypes
At the dawn of the Victorian era in her open-air laboratory in Halstead, Kent, Anna Atkins embarked on a radical experiment to document botanical species using a completely new artistic medium. The inimitable cyanotype photograms of algae and ferns she created were made into the first books to feature photographic images. Striking yet ethereal, these albums are a perfect synthesis of art and science.
Although the cyanotype technique was discovered by her friend John Herschel, Atkins was the first to realize both its practical purpose for her own interests in botany and taxonomy, and its intriguing artistic potential. The process, which involved fixing the object on sensitized paper and exposing it directly to sunlight, results in the Prussian blue pigment that forms the unmistakeable backdrop to these artworks.
Atkins' albums British Algae (1843-1853) and Cyanotypes of British and Foreign Ferns (1853), the latter of which was produced with her friend Anne Dixon, are works of remarkable rarity. Reprinted here in their entirety for the first time, they reveal her mastery of multiple disciplines: While the cyanotype process allowed Atkins to meet the challenges of accurate representation, the delicate contours of the specimens, set above the intense blue background, has lent the images a timeless aesthetic appeal.
This edition, drawing extensively from the copies of the New York Public Library and J. Paul Getty Museum, has carefully compiled cyanotypes from several sources to reprint Atkins' seminal works in full. Over 550 cyanotype impressions are accompanied by a series of introductory essays from Peter Walther, placing Atkins' work in its scientific and art-historical contexts and paying rightful tribute to the groundbreaking contributions of a female pioneer.

Technika hry, která je zde charakterizována častějším vydržováním prstů levé ruky na strunách s prozníváním strun a v pravé ruce „následnou přípravou“ a hrou ze strun, umožňuje již od úplného začátku lepší a konkrétnější výrazové prostředky pro přednes s adekvátní artikulací. Nejsou to ale etudy, které by měly techniku hry rozvíjet, nýbrž přednesové skladbičky, ve kterých je konkrétní zlepšená technika hry začleněna do muzikálního přednesu. Proto je potřeba skladbičky nejen „odehrát“, ale přitom také podporovat spontánní dětskou muzikalitu.

Sborník ze VII. sjezdu historiků a historiček umění, který se konal v září 2021 na Fakultě umění a designu UJEP v Ústí nad Labem, pojednává téma na půdorysu pěti kapitol, odkrývajících mechanismy sběratelství, vystavování a reprodukování umění, uměleckého vzdělávání a také konzervování a obnovy uměleckých památek. V centru pozornosti se ocitá dobově a místně podmíněný kontext, všechno co dílo obklopuje, co jej materiálně tvoří a co umožňuje nebo přímo podmiňuje jeho existenci, co jej uchovává v čase a co k němu přivádí pozornost. V sekci Umělecké školy a zprostředkování umění je zahrnut text Kateřiny Dytrtové z Katedry dějin a teorie umění FUD UJEP, který ukazuje specifika vzdělávání o umění a naznačuje cesty, jak efektivně přiblížit umělecké dílo veřejnosti.
Staviteľ Juraj Hudec 1858 – 1920
Po Ladislavovi Eduardovi Hudecovi predstavuje C.A.L.E.H. n.o. verejnosti jeho otca Juraja Hudeca, ktorý patril medzi významné osobnosti Banskej Bystrice na prelome 19. a 20. storočia. Juraj Hudec bol predovšetkým staviteľom, ale podieľal sa na stavbách aj ako projektant a reštaurátor. Okrem toho bol členom Obchodnej a priemyselnej komory, Uhorského karpatského spolku, viacerých mestských komisii a pri magistráte zastával funkciu mestského staviteľa a hospodárskeho inšpektora. Prelom storočí jeho povolaniu prial, keďže mestá a mestečká prechádzali veľkým stavebným rozmachom a modernizáciou. Juraj Hudec získaval zručnosti vo firmách Cserey a Wünsch, ktoré neskôr zúročil vo vlastnej firme založenej spolu s Ľudovítom Rosenauerom. Firma Hudec a Rosenauer patrili medzi dôležité spoločnosti pri rozvoji mesta. V prehľade Hudecovej stavebnej činnosti vidíme širokú škálu stavieb - od verejných budov, cez vily až po zázemie elektrárne a turistické útulne.
Výskum ku knihe potvrdil Hudecovu odbornosť, všestrannosť a inovatívnosť, ktoré ho spolu s dobrými kontaktmi predurčili na úspešnú profesionálnu dráhu, aj keď iba v rámci provinčného mesta, akým bola Banská Bystrica na prelome 19. a 20. storočia. Komplikovanosť daného obdobia mohla byť príčinou, prečo sa na meno Juraja Hudeca v priebehu 20. storočia vytratilo. Jeho stavby ale pretrvali a môžeme ich dodnes obdivovať – väčšina budov postavených Jurajom Hudecom stále stojí a mnohé plnia podobnú funkciu ako za jeho života.
