Jean-Michel Basquiat
Lee Jaffe, a cross-disciplinary visual artist, musician, and poet, took photos of his friend, Jean-Michel Basquiat, when they travelled abroad in 1983. As a photographer, Jaffe had a connection to Basquiat, and their time spent together resulted in an archive of imagery that captured one of the art world s true legends through an unfiltered and authentic lens. Basquiat and Jaffe connected over reggae music at a mutual friend s art show. It was the early 1980s in New York, when the art scene was raw, complicated, and thriving, and Jaffe cultivated strong connections with cultural figures such as Basquiat, Bob Marley, and Peter Tosh. For me, watching him [ Jean] paint reminded me of the times I would sit and play harmonica while Bob Marley, with his acoustic guitar, would be writing songs that were eventually to become classics, Jaffe says. With Jean and Bob, it seemed like they were channelling inspiration coming from an otherworldly place. Franz Kafka

The year 2019 brought a sensational discovery: hundreds of drawings by the writer Franz Kafka (1883-1924) were found in a private collection that for decades had been kept under lock and key. Until now, only a few of Kafka's drawings were widely known. Although Kafka is renowned for his written work, his drawings are evidence of what his literary executor Max Brod termed his "double talent." Irresistible and full of fascinating figures, shifting from the realistic to the fantastic, the grotesque, the uncanny, and the carnivalesque, they illuminate a previously unknown side of the quintessential modernist author.
Kafka's drawings span his full career, but he drew most intensively in his university years, between 1901 and 1907. An entire booklet of drawings from this period is among the many new discoveries, along with dozens of loose sheets. Published for the first time in English, these newly available materials are collected with his known works in a complete catalogue raisonné of more than 240 illustrations, reproduced in full color. Essays by Andreas Kilcher and Judith Butler provide essential background for this lavish volume, interpreting the drawings in their own right while also reconciling their place in Kafka's larger oeuvre.

Huť architektury Martin Rajniš patří k nejosobitějším architektonickým kancelářím u nás. Bylo by tudíž s podivem, aby se tento fakt nepromítl také do publikace, která přináší přehled jejich dosavadní práce. Svými zcela originálními texty ji doprovází sám Martin Rajniš a přibližuje v nich okolnosti vzniku svých výjimečných staveb. Rajniš však nepracuje sám, ale se svou Hutí, kde obklopen nejbližšími spolupracovníky promýšlí a kreslí nadčasovou architekturu. Cesta talentovaného architekta vedla z veleslavného libereckého SIALu přes samostatnou praxi s úspěchy na mezinárodní scéně a pedagogické působení až k čtyřleté plavbě kolem světa, kdy dospěl ke zjištění, že už prostě nechce lít beton. Publikácia sa venuje rozvoju 22 obcí okolo hraníc katastra Bratislavy, vzniku aglomerácie. Nová, nekoordinovaná zástavba zabrala cez 1.600 hektárov pôdy. Around 1500, Lucas Cranach the Elder steps onto the world stage - in Vienna. The publication explores this, the artist's earliest period of work and presents all the paintings he produced during this time, their expressiveness radically different from the courtly-elegant compositions he subsequently produced as court painter in Wittenberg.
Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553) produced his earliest works around 1500 in Vienna, shortly before moving to Wittenberg to become court painter to the Elector of Saxony. These brilliant paintings, drawings, and woodcuts document both the thirty-year-old's close contacts with the humanist circles of Konrad Celtis and Johannes Cuspinian, and identify him as a precursor of the so-called Danube School.
Chasing Light
Captured in vivid colour and magnificent quality, the unique moments that photographer Stefan Forster discovers in out-of-the-way places in nature take place on adventurous backcountry trips far from civilisation, with Forster lugging up to 80 pounds in camera gear and camping equipment. With enormous enthusiasm and prepared for anything, he often hikes through remote areas for weeks at a time on his search for the extraordinary. He has taken long solo kayak expeditions along Greenland's west coast, hopped from island to island in Micronesia, and slogged through the swamps of Louisiana and Texas to find the area's most beautiful cypress trees, dodging alligators all the while.
