Bresson o Bressonovi
Francouzský režisér Robert Bresson (1901–1999), svými životopisnými daty zajímavě a tak trochu příznačně vyplňujícími celé 20. století, patří mezi solitérní tvůrce světového filmu, který si i přes své dlouhé tvůrčí období čtyř dekád dokázal zachovat naprosto specifický tvůrčí styl, v podstatě nepoznamenaný žádnou z dominantních tvůrčích vln či škol. Ve všech filmech natočených od 2. světové války až do 80. let (např. Deník venkovského faráře, K smrti odsouzený uprchl, Peníze) si udržel svůj nezaměnitelný přístup k filmovému vyprávění či herectví a dále ho formoval a precizoval dílo po díle, a to za použití úsporných vyjadřovacích prostředků. Podobně úsporně i on sám formuloval své názory na filmové dílo; jediný ucelený soubor jeho filmového myšlení je stostránkový spisek "Poznámky o kinematografu" (1975, česky vyšlo 1998), opět plný krátkých úsečných noticek zapisovaných v průběhu čtvrtstoletí. Teprve roku 2013 vznikla další kniha, která se snaží v uceleném souboru nechat promluvit tohoto tvůrce o svém díle. Péčí jeho vdovy Mylene Bressonové vyšel soubor jeho rozhovorů z dlouhého údobí let 1943 až 1983, který je řazen chronologicky, film po filmu. Právě tento diachronní postup umožňuje sledovat vývoj Bressonova stylu, jeho uvažování o kinematografu. Tuto linii podporuje i zařazení interview, jejichž přímým popudem nebylo obvyklé představení nového snímku uváděného do kin, ale spíše zamyšlením nad určitým tématem či motivem (např. adaptace literárních děl), což dále prohlubuje poznání o směřování jeho úvah v tom kterém období. Tím se z tříště porůznu vzniklých rozhovorů stává celkem plnohodnotný profil tvůrce, který jinak o svém díle spíše mlčel.

Jan Kaplicky (1937-2009) was a visionary architect with a passion for drawing. It was his way of discovering, describing and constructing; and through drawing he presented beguiling architectural imagery of the highest order. Many of his sketches, cutaway drawings and photomontages are brought together and celebrated in this book. These drawings date from the early years of his independent practice, Future Systems, in the 1970s, to his final ink drawings, executed in the mid-1990s. V roce 2016 Univerzita Karlova oslavila sedm set let od narození svého zakladatele, římského císaře a českého krále Karla IV. Při této příležitosti proběhla na univerzitní půdě i jinde řada akcí a slavnostních událostí, které chce tato publikace připomenout a zachovat – slovem i obrazem – pro další generace studentů a učitelů naší alma mater.
Oslavy zahájilo tradiční setkání členů akademické obce UK u příležitosti výročí založení univerzity v dubnu 2016. Mezi nejvýznamnější akce samotného „karlovského týdne“ v květnu pak náleželo slavnostní shromáždění akademické obce a představitelů veřejného života ve Velké aule Karolina, setkání rektorů evropských i světových univerzit a podpis tzv. Pražské deklarace, udělení Mezinárodní ceny Karla IV., mezinárodní odborná konference Karel IV., země Koruny české a Evropa, výstava Druhý život Karla IV., slavnostní bohoslužba v Chrámu svatého Víta na Pražském hradě, rekonstrukce Karlovy korunovace, vydání reprezentativních publikací, cykly přednášek pro veřejnost a další.
Některé projekty byly organizovány ve spolupráci s dalšími významnými institucemi — Arcibiskupstvím pražským, Akademií věd České republiky, Českou televizí, Českým rozhlasem, Národní galerií v Praze a hudebním festivalem Pražské jaro. V rámci mediálního partnerství s Českou televizí byl natočen dokumentární cyklus o osobnosti Karla IV. Ve spolupráci s Arcibiskupstvím pražským proběhly tematické prohlídky klášterů a kostelů založených Karlem IV. na Novém Městě pražském, kde v roli průvodců vystoupili studenti kunsthistorických oborů Katolické teologické fakulty a Filozofické fakulty UK. Univerzita Karlova se tak v roce 2016 hrdě přihlásila k odkazu svého zakladatele, neboť je přesvědčena o stále větší aktuálnosti jeho panovnických vizí pro dnešní dobu.
Čtenáři mají možnost seznámit se s nejvýznamnějšími projekty a díky velkému množství fotografií zažít jedinečnou atmosféru karlovských oslav. Kniha obsahuje též slavnostní projevy, které v rámci karlovského výročí zazněly, stejně jako důležité dokumenty, jimiž se akademické prostředí přihlásilo k odkazu svého zakladatele.
Karel Těšínský 1926 - 2005
Dílo Karla Těšínského (1926–2005) dosud nebylo podrobeno detailnějšímu zpracování a stále čeká na objevení odbornou i laickou veřejností. Autor patří k silné generaci umělců, jejichž uvažování, v poválečných poměrech, stálo v opozici vůči oficiálním výtvarným tendencím, jež formovala metoda socialistického realismu. Studoval v ateliérech Františka Muziky, Jana Baucha a Emila Filly, absolvoval v ateliéru krajinomalby Otakara Nejedlého. Směřoval k vyvážené obrazové skladbě a až klasicistnímu cítění. Každý obraz má zvláštní, někdy značně složitý, ale vždy promyšlený rytmus. Hloubku prostoru modeloval světlem a barevnými akcenty, které někde vystupují do popředí a jinde pronikají do hloubky. Přirozeně navazuje na avantgardní vlivy v české krajinomalbě první poloviny 20. století, na Josefa Čapka, Jindřicha Štyrského a zejména na Josefa Šímu. Odstupňované barevné tóny a linie vymezující plochu a prostor tvoří nedílnou součást vyvážené kompozice osobitého malířova díla. Jeho pozoruhodná výtvarná práce se vyvíjela bez náhlých zvratů ve vnitřní kontinuitě. Monografie přehledným způsobem mapuje tvorbu Karla Těšínského, včetně výběrového soupisu díla, výběru z textů a rozsáhlé biografie.

Kolektivní monografie Film a dějiny 6. Postkomunismus postihuje vybraná témata spojená s proměnou žánru historického filmu a televizního seriálu a jeho společenskou reflexí po roce 1989. Jednotlivé studie se zaměřují na prvky ostalgie a postkomunismu, ideovou revizi pohledu na české dějiny, návaznost na tvorbu šedesátých let a přetrvávající schémata z období normalizace, proměnu filmového stylu a narace, přesun témat od velké historie k osobní a rodinné historii.
Po roce 1989 přestala existovat cenzura, byl zrušen státní monopol, výroba přešla do soukromých produkcí, prezentovaná ideová východiska se stala soukromou záležitostí tvůrců. Kniha se snaží prokázat, že současný historický film hodnotí nejenom zobrazovaná období, ale že se rovněž v alegorické rovině vyjadřuje k aktuálním kulturně-politickým tématům. Autoři vycházejí z teze, že minulost se stává místem poznávání přítomnosti.
