Toiletpaper is an artists' magazine created and produced by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, born out of a passion or obsession they both cultivate: images. A vase is never merely a container. As Georges Braque once said, the vase gives form to emptiness: ever since the earliest human civilizations, this object has had a purpose that is greater than its function and it perennially invites experimentation in shape and expression.
The 1,000 vases presented in this book offer an eloquent demonstration of this fact. They come from 35 different countries and more than 80% of them have been made by women or independent designers and artists born between 1988 and 1993--each of whom was invited to create a free interpretation of the same archetype, resulting in a spectrum of the infinite creativity inspired by the many possible versions of a single item. Rotrekl
Malíř a ilustrátor Teodor Rotrekl (1923-2004) dosud nepatří ke klasikům českého výtvarného umění. Známý je spíše jako ilustrátor vědeckofantastické literatury. Rotrekl byl přitom prvním domácím umělcem, který veřejně vystavil prostorovou asambláž, začal kombinovat malbu s fotografií a experimentoval s technikou pop artové obrazové montáže. Jeho světonázor se vymykal dnešnímu vnímání hodnot českého poválečného umění, spjatého s tvorbou vymezující se vůči komunistickému režimu. Patřil k umělcům, kteří se 50. a 60. letech ztotožňovali s vládnoucími politickými ideály. Po kritice okupace Československa v roce 1968 sice nemohl vystavovat, přesvědčeným komunistou ale zůstal až do smrti. Monografie představuje celek tvorby Teodora Rotrekla, včetně užitého umění. Současně analyzuje prostředí kultury socialistického Československa. Přibližuje dobové funkce populárně naučné ilustrace, ideologický rozměr vědecké fantastiky a rozebírá vztah mezi Rotreklovou tvorbou a globálním pop artem.
Tomáš Pospiszyl se zabývá uměním 20. a 21. století. Zajímá se o vztah západní a východní neoavantgardy, o umění socialistického Československa a o vztah mezi filmovým a výtvarným uměním. V současnosti vede katedru teorie a dějin umění na Akademii výtvarných umění v Praze.
Svetová dráma na slovenských javiskách
Ladislav Čavojský (1932 – 2014) patril ku generácii prvých vysokoškolsky vyštudovaných slovenských divadelných vedcov. Jednou z konštantne prítomných línií v jeho výskume boli analýzy uvádzania inonárodnej drámy do nášho kultúrneho kontextu. Čavojského pohľad na túto oblasť bol literárny aj divadelný, teda komplexný a poučný nielen pre historikov, dejiny literatúry a divadla, ale aj pre prax, pre režisérov, hercov i dramaturgov. Kniha prináša výber štúdií týkajúcich sa udomácňovania dramatickej spisby Shakespeara, Moli?ra, Goldoniho, Goetheho, Gogoľa, Ostrovského a Ibsena na Slovensku a rozbory jej súdobého inscenovania. Túto obsahovú os určil sám autor. Aktualizovať, dopísať po súčasnosť svoje staršie texty, žiaľ, už nestihol. Napriek tomu sú cennými zdrojmi pre štúdium dejín slovenského divadla.
Minority a film
Zborník Minority a film tvorí súbor príspevkov z 14. ročníka česko-slovenskej filmologickej konferencie, ktorá sa uskutočnila v dňoch 20. – 23. októbra 2011 v kaštieli Topoľčianky. Hlavnou témou pravidelného výročného stretnutia českých a slovenských filmových historikov a teoretikov sa stalo zobrazovanie minorít vo filme, najmä v kontexte stredoeurópskeho kultúrneho priestoru. Konferencia sa na jednej strane ideovo zamerala na analýzu umeleckých spôsobov zobrazovania predstaviteľov národnostných menšín a historických udalostí, ktoré priamo a bezprostredne zasahovali do ich každodenného života, ale zároveň otvorila priestor aj pre úvahy o širokom spektre kultúrnych, spoločenských i rôzne geopoliticky vzdialených menšín.

Červen 1979: Werner Herzog se vydává do jihoamerické džungle natočit film Fitzcarraldo, příběh muže, sen a jeho realizaci. Natáčení se mění v dobrodružství: Deník Wernera Herzoga Dobývání marnosti je záznamem existenciálního zážitku a pokračujícího konfliktu s představitelem hlavní role Klausem Kinským, který se stále hlouběji dostává do své role Fitzcarralda. Werner Herzog (5. září 1942), vlastním jménem Werner H. Stipetić, se narodil chorvatským rodičům v Mnichově, ale vyrůstal v malé bavorské vesničce nedotčené moderními technologiemi. Ve dvanácti letech poprvé viděl promítat film a ve čtrnácti začal pěšky poznávat Německo. Studoval literaturu a historii v Mnichově, později absolvoval filmový seminář v Pittsburghu na Duquesne University. Studia však nedokončil a namísto toho cestoval a živil různými pracemi včetně jezdce na rodeu. V roce 1963 založil produkční společnost Werner Herzog Film Production, aby si udržel nezávislost. Za svou filmovou kariéru natočil více než padesát filmů. Působil však také jako spisovatel, herec, scénarista a operní režisér. Spolupracoval mimo jiné s divadlem v Bayreuthu a milánské La Scale. V jeho hraných i dokumentárních filmech a knihách se odrážejí Herzogovy sympatie k zvláštnímu a ojedinělému způsobu života často na odlehlých místech naší planety nebo mimo normy moderní západní společnosti.

Výstava jako médium. České umění 1957–1999
Jak se výstavy výtvarného umění promítají do jeho psaných dějin? A jak by vypadaly dějiny českého umění druhé poloviny 20. století, pokud bychom se na ně dívali právě z tohoto pohledu?
Zatímco tradičně bývají dějiny umění koncipovány jako dějiny stylů a zaměřují se na jednotlivé osobnosti a díla, v publikaci Výstava jako médium jsou pojímány z pohledu tzv. exhibition histories, které se na Západě na přelomu milénia staly novou uměnovědnou disciplínou. České umění druhé poloviny 20. století je tak představováno na pozadí přelomových výstav, které v letech 1957–1999 spoluformovaly jeho vývoj.
Publikace na více než 1000 stranách rekonstruuje 60 pečlivě vybraných výstav, a to jak skrze texty, tak obrazovou dokumentaci. Výstava je v knize chápána jako autonomní formát kulturní produkce, ale zároveň i jako nástroj k prosazení určitých podob umění, jeho funkcí a veřejné legitimizace. Archiv rozdělený do pěti období uvádějí tři samostatné studie, které sledují metodologii aktuálního výstavního diskurzu, dějiny výstav a proměňující se institucionální podmínky vystavování daného období i dosud nezpracované téma autorů a organizátorů výstav, později označovaných jako kurátoři/kurátorky.
Kniha přináší nové pohledy na dosavadní interpretace vývoje českého výtvarného umění po roce 1957. Přestože se zabývá historií, klade si otázky, které bezprostředně vycházejí z podoby současného umění a jeho aktuálních problémů.

Druhý svazek Gombrichových studií o renesanční době a umění spojuje antologie Apellův odkaz a Staří mistři v novém nasvícení.
Název prvního souboru, Apellův odkaz (The Heritage of Apelles, 1976), připomíná nejslavnějšího malíře starověkého Řecka, který prý ve svých dílech spojoval dokonalou krásu s nedostižnou dovedností, s níž zachycoval vzezření přírody. Tento dvojí ideál dokonalé krásy a dokonalého napodobení přírody, zděděný z antiky, přetrvával až do dvacátého století a je východiskem poučených a inspirativních studií v tomto souboru, věnovaných otázkám tradice, hodnot a standardů, i konkrétněji pracovním metodám Leonarda da Vinci či malířským technikám zachycování lesku a světla. Druhá část knihy, antologie Staří mistři v novém nasvícení (New Light on Old Masters, 1986), se pak zaměřuje na jednotlivé tvůrce, nově zkoumá dobové texty a dokumenty a objevně interpretuje díla mistrů, jak byli Giotto, Leonardo da Vinci, Raffael, Giulio Romano či Michelangelo. Gombrichovy eseje zůstávají dodnes vzorem kvalitního psaní o historii výtvarného umění. Soubor O renesanci 2 vychází opět v překladu Martina Pokorného.

Between 1933 and 1945, artistic creativity within the German Reich was almost totally under the control of the National Socialist state. Many artists emigrated. But what about the ones who remained in Germany? Under what social and economic conditions did they focus on their art and what options for activity were open to them?
For artists who did not conform to the system, the years of National Socialism were an era of standstill and isolation.
