Johann Ferdinand Schor je autorem vůbec prvního textu přednášek o architektuře dochovaného v Čechách. Jeho Úvod do civilního stavitelství představuje jedinečný doklad recepce klasické traktátové literatury a zároveň přetrvávající didaktické funkce traktátů ještě i na sklonku baroka. Samotné Schorovy texty nadto odrážejí stylovou proměnu kolem poloviny 18. století, která začíná pod vlivem klasicizujících tendencí tíhnout ke zjednodušení forem. Z logických důvodů opomíjí čtyři Burianovy němé filmy z let 1923-1927, a stejně tak ponechává stranou jeho podíl na filmové produkci po komunistickém puči v únoru 1948. Publikace si nemůže klást za cíl zpracovat dané téma komplexně – už proto, že výběr ukázek zůstává výhradně na autorovi. Jeho nespornou výhodou při práci byla skutečnost, že se slovnímu humoru literárně i scénicky věnuje více než čtyřicet let.
